it's an RS2/ S2 audi 5 cilinder turbo engine that's modified... And about the driveline. It doenst matter if you put an audi or VW driveline underneath it, it's the same...

Just like vw or audi engines, most of them are the same.

It also had two different fuel systems and engine control chips. Mainly becouse it's also driven on normal streets and also becouse the racingfuel the other setting (830hp) uses costs about 13.74 dollars/gallon. It had a handmade turbocharger by KKK and it had an electronic boost control, so that the boost could be optimized for each gear and so on. Redline started from 8500rpm and the revlimeter was at 10 000rpm.

I've done some translating on the video I was talking about below. It HAD 830hp and about 900Nm torq. It had a 2,2liter 5 cylinder inline engine from Audi Sport Quattro S1. Rear subframe and suspension was modified from S2 and the front was all handmade. It had a drive ratio of 40% front and 60% rear. The diffs were capable of delivering 90% of drive on one wheel.

People have been talking about the fuelconsumption so here's the real numbers for 900hp setup. 18 liters per (swedish) mile.. So that's 180 liters/100kilometers. And so that our American frieds can understand too, it's 1,3067 miles per gallon :) And if you need some more specs just type GOLF IV DAHLBACK in the searchbar.. It's in Swedish, but maybe someone could translate it? My swedish isn't too good so i won't be doing it myself :) Btw, Dahlback got 1200hp out of it :D

The whole car is built on audis parts.. I wish I got some pics under the car to show you, but I don't..

You can't belive the gasoline it sucks.. 18 litres a mile! (a swedish mile, about 1000km)

It still counts as a street car, så he has one chip for regular gas, and one for racing gas.

It's massive what you can press out of a 5 cylinder engine.. :P

Alot of tuners also use the 5syl diesel engine block from Volvo, beqause they can stand more boost before breaking.

Don't know 'bout the Volvo diesel block tho, but the correct is Audi's 2.5TDi block (built from early 90's to1997 as 5 cylinder turbo diesel). After 97', you got V6 2.5 TDi. ;)

fuel dump pretty much, it's running super rich. you see the dark smoke also? good indicator of left over fuel in the exhaust burning.

it's called backfire, when the hot exhaust gases mix with unburnt fuel and ignites

I had nothing to do with tuning this car, but I assume it is part of the "anti-lag" feature. it retards ignition timing and over fuels to allow the mixture to burn after the exhaust valve open. This lets the force of combustion be used to spool the turbo, not push the pistons down. Very helpful on cars with large turbos that need boost to stay up between shifts and out of corners.

Hans himself has stated that the engine has 600 to 900 horsepower (engine, not wheels) depending on setup and tune. Rear subframe and suspension is some kind of hybrid from RS2 and UrQuattro and front is custom built. Transmission is modified from Audi IMSA.

you have to check out the dahlback racing site for more info on this car. It's a VW golf shell, with a turbocharged inline 5 from an audi, and produced in the range of 600 to 900 hp, has an audi based all wheel drive system. It's pure race stuff, two racing buckets, a fuel cell, rollcage, there is no backseat, that's where the gigantic muffler sits, the rest of the rear hatch area is all radiators.
