Cunard got the wrong idea trying to put the Vista class ships to be ocean liners...they can't be one like the QM2 or QE2. More like a big whale tipping up and down.
I think I would have rather been QM2 Victoria doesn't look like she's in her element on the atlantic whereas that's what the QM2 was built for so she can handle these types of seas much better.
WERE YOU RUNNING THAT CLOSE ON ANOTHER CRUISE , THAT WAS GREAT FOOTAGE , THE BOW WAS BOUNCING A LITTLE BUT I LIKE THE STERN SHOT CLOSE UP , WOULD LOVE TO CRUISE ON EITHER, IM SURE THEY ARE BOTH VERY BEAUTIFUL.
@theraptor123456 Thats bcos it IS - it is a CRUISE SHIP- never intended for the unforgiving north atlantic . It is pitiful seeing it wallowing about . I feel sorry for anyone suffering seasickness on board
The ship is pitching up and down because it's not meant to be crossing the Atlantic, It's just a re-designed carnival vista-class cruiser piece of shit with a too dull bow and a too shallow haul, not a true ocean liner like Queen Mary 2 or Queen Elizabeth 2. I wish Cunard would've kept the tradition of Ocean liners instead of bringing Cruisers into the mix. Not to metion it's not even built to sail through these conditions, Oh well, Queen Mary 2 will surely live on as Cunard's last true ship.
@nas19951 U R absolutely correct! I cannot understand y cunard designated the ship a "queen liner" - they had any number of famous names they could have used insted.eg caronia, carinthia, aquatania, mauritania etc etc. Cunard have mis understood that a " QUEEN" liner is a legendary brand - a high speed transatlantic express liner- NOT MERELY A cruise ship!! I would love to see this ship re named and re designated as a CRUISE SHIP.-- regards
@JoannaColemanND@JoannaColemanND Actually QM2 handles the seas better than QE2, because QM2 hull is the thickest at sea, it has 4 stabilizers, and is larger, and even the Captain Ronald Warwick said there is no other ship that can handle the seas better than the QM2, but QE2 is faster, and more famous, and is legendary, just like her sister is starting to become one so is the QE2, both of these beloved ships, they shouldnt have been separated.
I continue my previous posting. QE2 was very beautiful ocean liner and it's deserves it's reputation in the maritime history. But I think in this video QV takes waves quite good. QE2 was often pitching too, there's more speed but still. Search "QE2 final Transatlantic crossing westbound" on the YouTube and yes she's pitching quite much in likely good weather conditions (beginning and end of the video), QE2 takes waves with more style, but in this video, QV takes it -not bad at all I think.
Yes but QE2 has a stronger Hull and QE2 survived 95 Foot WAVE!!! even larger than the Wave Oasis of the seas encountered the 80 FT. Wave, and she survived. This proves QE2 is a real ocean liner, as for QV Well she isn't that bad, she is just hated on alot.
I think QV is a best-looking version of this Vista-class ships. QM2 is a oceanliner, QV is a cruise ship, but you can cross Atlantic safely with QV if they accept limits of the QV and I know they will. QV is more economical (much more fuel efficient) and practical (in harbours etc.) ship to operate than QM2 so there's reasons why there's no more ocean liners like QM2.
And what is a Carnival cruise Lines employee to say? did capt. wright mention that QE2 had to slow down as not to out run the QV? That by slowing down made QE2's passengers more susceptable to a rougher crossing? QV is not an ocean liner by an stretch. The videos of the maiden crosssing show a ship who handles atlantic crossing much rougher than a ship specifically designed for the purpose would. The Vista design is a cruise ship design and Cunard got her because Mr. Arison would not pay to
build a ship that would be a true 'all purpose' vessel. As far as the stabelizer's not being deployed we only have his word for it and he may not have to do so. But these videos show a ship that in no way should be making Atlantic crossings. I believe Carnival wisely has left QV off that schedule and left to QM2 who can handle the stresses of the Atlantic properly.
A Carnival employee is not the source to go for when looking behind the scenes. Cunard doesn't even manage itself anymore!
BTW...I believe this was before a Captain from P&O ws made Commodore of the CUNARD fleet. What the hell was Captain Wright to say before the Commodore's title was given? Come on! QV is a poor Atlantic ship..forcing QE@ to slow down on QV's maiden voyage as she could not keep up. P&O, who manage, run and design Cunard are heavy on lip action and short on substance. Don't be suckered in by Carnival's PR
Cunard Line has had several purpose cruise ships over the years. The Cunard Princess and Countess of 1976-77 as well as the earlier Cunard Adventurer and Cunard Ambassador of 1971. There was also the deluxe Caronia of 1948. The new Queen Victoria and Elizabeth carry on the cruising tradition that Cunard started in the early 1920s.
Cunard started way before the 1920's Dude your behind your dates, Cunard was Founded in 1840 by Samuel Cunard, even the Lusitania Look it up it sank in 1915 and was a Cunard Ship. Rose in the Movie Titanic mentions that Titanic didn't look larger than the Mauritania the Largest passenger ship in the world before Olympic and Titanic, of course Mauritania is Cunard Owned, too, its sister ship to the Lusitania.
'Dude', gets your facts straight. What years was Cunard's first scheduled cruise? Do you even know? Cunard began Transatlantic service in 1840 w/Britannia and did'nt offer cruises for another 70 plus years-after WW1.
Ohh your talking about cruises, I thought you meant Cunard first started on 1920's but I see what your saying, Ok that is true, but anyway IDK why people gave you a thumbs down. :)
Hi there SSUnited Stateslife when I said about the longer bow I meant that they could of taken the vista class design and make some serious changes to the design obviously there wanting QV to cross the Atlantic sometimes.but who knows whether or not making her strong enough to cross the Atlantic on a regular occasional would have worked of course she's very strong but the vista class design was never originally intended to cross the Atlantic obviously yes she's been mollified
hi, what I mean is shes has no real "liner" characteristics. I know she is a cruise ship, but I hurts me to look at the Qm2, or the Qe2, and see that Cunards proud legacy has a modern cruise ship in it. I was hoping that they would stay with the more streamlined class. She is not seaworthy for the atlantic crossings in any type of bad weather read her reports, its plainly stated, that she handles poorly like a "cruise ship" which she is. What I mean is shes is nice, but not a true liner. Thanks
Hi again, I just wanted to say I am not trying to offend you, and if I have, sorry. You are very lucky to be sailing on the Queens, but me personally prefer a true liner, and a true Queen.
She's a beautiful ship, but much different than the QM2 and QE2. They're ocean liners and built as ocean liners. The QV is straight up a cruise ship. I have nothing against her and I think she's gorgeous, but she seems a little miss placed amongst the larger Cunarders. Great vid, she did take the waves pretty well.
Qvs also a much slower ship that QE2 or even QM2. The QE2 was a 5-day ship at 28.5 knots (could do it in 4-days if pushed) while QM2 is a 5-6 day ship at 26-knots. The QV can do the crossing in 6-7 days at 21-22 knots.
Modified vista class cruiser, such a shame they didnt incorporate a longer bow, shes not a liner, a cruise ship, such a shame a box "QV" replaced the beautiful RMS QE2
As I was saying about the forward superstructure cutting costs is understandable in the current recession but with this design it would only take one big monster wave and it could do a lot of damage to the front of the superstructure and especially with those balcony cabins there I really wouldn't want the be in one of those on an Atlantic crossing in heavy weather. Atlantic waves are very capable of reaching those if the conditions are bad enough!
I do really like QV I think she's a very nice looking ship and the interior reminds me of Cunard liners from the past but I haven't yet sailed on her but I have sailed on QE2 and QM2.
this as everyone knows they are designed to do it. it is a bit worrying the way Queen Victoria is handling heavy sea conditions on the Atlantic obviously QV is a cruise ship with a strengthened Design if they had of give her a longer bow into strengthening her design I don't think the Atlantic would be dominating her soo much! because obviously they were wanting to cut costs hence the cruise ship design I mean it's $300 million dollars verses $800 million.
well I can honestly say I have been watching videos on here of Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria in heavy weather across the Atlantic and in the same kind of conditions and I know which ship I would rather cross the Atlantic on it would have to be QM2. now the technical facts are as shipping fans know the reason for a long bow is to keep the water far away from the forward superstructure Queen Elizabeth 2 Queen Mary 2 successfully do
Every clip of the Victoria brings out a raft of people who claim to know better than Cunard but all they do is talk. Why don't you make an offer on the line and show us how YOU would manage it? Or if she bothers you so much why don't you just not watch these? I'm sure I will enjoy it as much as I did QM2 when I get the chance on her or Elizabeth. 'Til then I am content to watch.
Wow, great argument: wrong. The QM2 is a liner, the QE2 was a liner. QV is not a liner. During her maiden voyage across the Atlantic she handled horribly while the QE2 handled very well. And the QE2 had to slow down because the QV is so slow. All previous Queens could do 30 knots, only the QV can't. She is not a liner.
She is a cruise ship, not an ocean liner. I really do wish Cunard would quit calling her one and give her a name that isnt a Queen name, those should be reserved for the liners.
Liners are supposed to have high speed: she can barely do 22 knots, a buttoned up superstructure: hers is exposed, a long bow deck: hers is short, lifeboats high above the water line: hers are placed low, deep draft: hers is quite low, and a finely shaped hull: hers is the exact same as a dozen other cruise ships. She is not a liner.
If you dont like the Queen Victoroia then why do you watch so many videos with her in them? I have watched 9 up to now and you have left a negative comment on each and everyone! Why dont you just piss off and leave people to watch her in peace!
Because she's one of 12 sailing around for Carnival..nothing original to the design. Cunardival isn't even its own brand, it is run, managed and designed by Princess/P&O...The Icky Vicky is the product of its own competition! It's all a facade, it's history on a budget, check out those plastic decks? There is zero special about Cunardival anymore, even the critics have noticed it's become "very Princess'. Brace yourself..the new QE is going to be the Eurodam with a red stack. Carnival is cheap
Vista designed hulls were never initially designed to handle Atlantic crossings. The reinforced hull handles the stress but her structure does not handle it well. The Vicky gave a horrendous performance on her maiden voyage. Her passengers and the QE2s (who was forced to slow down so the Vicky could keep up) were given a horriblely uncomfortable crossing. The Vicky is well built but placed in a job she was not designed insode or out for. She is make do, the cheapest route to a new ship.
Whats interesting is to hear Carol marlow say the Vicky encountered rough weather but still managed to make it on time to New York. Well of course she did..the ship was speeding to make sure that happened. The QE2 was running slower than she should have, had she sped up the crossing would have been more comfortable for her passengers. Fact is Vicky is not designed for atlantic service. She is a cruise ship despite all the attempts by Princess and Ms.Marlow to characterize her otherwise.
Boy, the QV looks like a big whale jumpin' up n' down those heavy waves. I would rather be looking at the QE2 myself, though I'd love to be on her at the same time...
Vicky handled it as well as any cruise ship could handle it. Though she forced QE2 to slow down so the tandem crossing/NY arrivial could still happen. Had QE2 sped up she could have rode the storm out so as not to make her passengers uncomfortable. Fact is Vicky is a Vista design, the new QE will be the same thing. In terms of design the Disney ships look more like "ocean liners" despite Ms. Marlow having you believe otherwise.
he means that her crossing through the Atlantic proved that she can handle those big waves, but not good as a ship specifically designed for ocean crossings such as the Queen Elizabeth 2 and the Queen Mary 2, real Ocean liners
Cunard got the wrong idea trying to put the Vista class ships to be ocean liners...they can't be one like the QM2 or QE2. More like a big whale tipping up and down.
