Bill, I understand it's your position that humans caused the recent (last ~150 yrs) rise in atmospheric CO2, during which time the concentration rose from ~280 to 380 ppm, and we did so with our industrial emissions, which totaled ~8 Gt (thousand million metric tonnes) for the yr 2005. So how do you, with a straight face, pretend that we can somehow 'hold the line' @ 350ppm, when industry will be releasing ~50Gt by yr 2050!? If the west ceased ALL CO2 emissions, the total will still be ~40Gt!

Using numbers from the US DOE, China alone will be emitting ~25Gt CO2 by yr 2050, in a 'bus. as usual' scenario, or ~19Gt in an 'extreme austerity' scenario. This ignores The other 2 economies which will have passed the US in CO2 emissions by then. Compare that with ENTIRE WORLD CO2 emissions of a mere 8Gt for the yr 2005 from CDIAC. Given the reality of the above numbers, which are NOT disputed, what kind of fool could possibly believe that it's possible to trim CO2 emissions by ANY amount?

@jimrennison1 Make it a law banning coal-fired power plants and the production and use and sale of any more gas-powered cars. Put anyone in prison who breaks this law, just like any other law. That's how.

As soon as one makes things laws, the most important thing in people's minds - above all physical consequences - is "must uphold the law" and "can't do that because it's a crime" etc etc.

For once, we need a law to do GOOD things, rather than bad (like locking civilians up for marijuana)
