Also let me just add, even if he does sing about his lovers and they happen to be both men. If you over look that and sing it to your lover instead, you will find a lot of their songs are quite powerful. You will probably find you can relate to a lot of the lyrics in a lot of his songs in different ways. Some you can't but a lot you can. But that's how it always is in music. Sometimes you can't relate to a song at all but the melody is catchy so you like it anyway. It's always like that!
