  • David Fincher's title sequences are amazing

  • NIN <3

  • @Aleque like any body is going to understand :( lol

  • @XMDDarkManXDMX if they don't, they are not worth understanding the message :D

  • just so all you know, this title sequence was created by COIL, peter sleazy christopherson and jhonn balance! both now sadly dead!!

  • @schreineinAV umm no, this title sequence was created by Kyle Cooper....

  • The most awensome thing is that Kevin Spacey's surname is not in cast

  • Gotta love NIN and the mix of Coil.

  • You can view the Chase Scene here - youtube.com/watch?v=2IF9VbQTUE4

  • I don't like the movie, but this intro kicks ass!!!

  • i can't describe what i feel every time i see it!!!!! so creepy and psycho, i love it!!!!!! and after 16 years this movie looks bra*d new...

  • Never paid attention to title sequences before this movie. Kyle Cooper is awesome inspiring. There were lots of scenes in this movie that I have to close my eyes to. I certainly couldn't eat while watching it. Very uncomfortable but one of my favourites.

  • I literally just finished watching this on Blu-ray on a good-sized HDTV & it is stunning. These opening credits, probably my favorite of all-time, have been pretty much copied by music videos, commercials, advertising & other films. One thing I actually noticed this time was how the images & the words onscreen move along in perfect time with the music. Absolutely brilliant.

  • The best introduction to a serial killer film. This song might be THE most horrifying song in the world.

  • @JhonKjaer It's a remix of "Closer" from Nine Inch Nails.

  • @sagan1976

I know. Still fits the theme perfectly.

  • This movie is a masterpiece, just saw it.. for the seventh time or so.. ;)

I love fictional characters that portrays pure evil in a cold, intelligent and ruthless way.. And John Doe is one of the best.

  • basically its saw if saw were good.

  • @pyramidheadkitten9 Saw, at the least first one, was good, but nowhere near as good as "Se7en." That's like comparing apples with dogshit.

  • @postalcode2934 the traps were pretty much the only reason i continued watching any of them, since most of them were pretty interesting.

  • @postalcode2934 - lol best comment.

  • Ladies and Gentlemen...ART.

  • ugh.. i feel like i have to wash my hands

  • Kevin Spacey is the most underrated actor.

  • the thing about this movie is, it's not suppposed to be an horror movie. It's actually a thriller! The fact that it is more scary than most horror movies of today, is worth more than 100 thumbs up!

  • @noobskater15 well ill thumb it up for u, look OMG 124 NOW :O

  • @noobskater15

Completely agree with you! David Fincher is such a hero! Not a horror film but it is a friken mind fuck!

  • One of the best horror movies I have ever seen!!!!!

  • " It didn't work out ... So i kept a souvenir ... Her pretty head."

  • @texasB666 ..........And the life of the baby inside her...

  • My absolute favorite. Spooked me out beyond belief when I first saw it. Get the Critereon Laserdisc or the New Line Special Edition on DVD. It's worth every penny.

Dunno' if it's out on Blu Ray yet......anybody know?

  • @pacific707 yeah, it's on blu-ray but like most older movies, it looks better on DVD. Before recently, movies just weren't meant to be crystal clear, it doesn't look right.

  • @DulBeat I know what you mean about re-watching films on Blu-Ray vs. standard DVD. My BR copy of "Contact" just made the impressive CG shots look cheesy and fake and brought forward some very noticeable digital flaws. So I only watch the first DVD edition that I bought. The "re-silvered" masters of "Se7en" look great on both LaserDisc and standard DVD (the New Line edition). Seems like Blu-Ray exposes things that weren't meant to be seen, nor noticed. A Catch-22, perhaps.....

  • @DulBeat I know people want to appreciate films displayed in their highest definition, but Blu-Ray exposes all the digital flaws that were corrected for the digital format of standard DVD/LaserDisc and goes "overboard" by displaying too much digital "information", which looks very weird. I suppose that only films shot in a Blu-Ray digital format (if that film technology even exists), or some fascimile would work on the audiences' eyes. I dunno'....are any films made this way???

  • Thanks for putting this up. :)

I'm using it for my media as level coursework.

  • can somebody tell me why he crosses so many words?

  • I love how this intro seems totally irrelavent untill the end.

  • holy shit i never noticed richard roundtree was in this movie

  • @pyro80 Roundtree plays the mayor in a very minor role.

  • This isn't exactly 'Closer' by Nine Inch Nails; it's a remix. What's the name of the remix?

  • @Neonman78

it´s "Closer (Precursor)", you can find it in the EP "Closer to God" by NIN.

  • this movie is one of my all time favs, loved every second of it! Kyle Cooper is the God of opening sequence, amazing job.

  • Google "Analysis of the horror in Se7en"

Its quite an interesting read . It explains how Somerset and the killer John Doe is similar and why the end is so genius.

  • It's the stuff nightmares are made of...

  • wat's in da boooooxxxx????? :(

  • If you pay attention to the credits you can see Richard Roundtree, the guy who played Shaft.

  • This movie showed Brad Pitt had some real acting skills.

  • A true masterpiece. The last minutes are the most shocking end I ever saw.

  • fincher and reznor will be working together again on the social network.. i just saw that reznor will be scoring his latest film.. it's gonna be alot better than most ppl expect

  • Is the very best intro in the whole cinema history

  • If anyone cares the title of the song is specifically called Closer (Precursor).

  • Se7en

  • I love this movie! It is very creepy! I liked it better than any other serial killer movie even Silence of the Lambs, and that was scary! This was scarier!

  • great title sequence

  • Oh my God nothing and I mean nothing can top this intorduction.

  • Have you ever seen anything like this

  • @miggypiggy81 Shakes his head back and forth very slowly.....

  • david fincher is such an amazing director, absorbing movie, entertaining, and explicit, that's great film making

  • @CoocaColaa emmm david fincher did´nt made this title sequence. there are many people involved in the making of a motion picture.

  • @AyaxTelemonio lol, did you know that the director is the mind behind all the colaborators?, your comment is kinda obvious and I don't even know why you replied me

  • you bring me closer to god...

  • @PsychoBisket help me....I wanna fuck you like an animal! ha NIN ftw

  • DETECTIVE!!!!!!!

I think you're looking for me...

  • Jesus. Somebody call someone. Jesus.

  • Oh, f@ck, he shot him!

  • what is the name of the song?

  • Nine Inch Nails Closer (Precursor)

  • "Closer (Precursor)"

It's track 2 on the U.S. single album "closer to god" by Nine Inch Nails.

  • @greendayrpunk I really like that song!

  • zomg.

    that movie looks really good.

    yesh i agree.

    it is spine chilling.

  • Its an amazing film go see it, its only like 10 years old... :-) No seriously se7en is amazing!

  • Amazing movie "WHAT'S IN THE BOX?!"

  • Her pretty head.

  • "No that's not true she's alright, TELL ME SHE'S ALRIGHT!!!"

  • She died begging for her life... and the life of the child inside her.

    Oh, he didn't know...

  • listen. If you kill him. He wins.

    Oh GOD! OH GOD!

  • Closes eyes.

    BLAM BLAM

    Oh shit! He shot him!

  • Spine Chilling.

  • nice one

  • this was an awesome film. david fincher is a genius. i love all his films.

  • John doe the royal christian . oh yea, intercourse intercourse .

  • The title sequence is just awesome. I get goosebumps everytime I see SE7EN appear. Did anybody else notice that the machine "ticks" seven times everytime we see it up close?

  • what program does kyle cooper use liek after effects

  • it looks to me like he used an optical printer for most this.

  • This was mostly done physically I think. It was before computer based editing was really common...

  • I remember this being the first film my film-studies teacher showed us. Haunting film, but so brilliantly directed and acted. I showed it to my friend who i'm introducing to different films. He was quite stunned by it.

  • this film totally gives me the creeps...but it is well directed and this opening credit sequence is sheer genius...reminds me of work by saul bass.

  • @teena2of3

It also reminds me of the work of Stan Brakhage

  • wait so this is NIN .... but whats the song? does anyone have it on mp3??

  • the song is called "closer (precursor)", nine inch nails remixed by coil. it's on the downward spiral deluxe and the closer single. available at amazon, itunes, etc...

  • @Ohiogrown90 nine inch nails: closer - precursor

    it´s a remix of closer

  • Brilliant movie, but I made the mistake of taking a date to see it. Needless to say, that relationship didn't last very long.

  • @bpsmith1979 hahahah rofl

  • @bpsmith1979 Are you kidding me? If a guy took me to see an awesome movie like this I'd drop my panties right then and there.

  • @ImSorryOfficer I'm there with you, sister!

  • @bpsmith1979 - especially not when you looked into your popcorn tub & her head was in there...

  • I remember after seeing this movie wanting to buy the soundtrack just to get this track but was disappointed not seeing on it then like 12 years later buying the NIN deluxe edition and playing the bonus disk and was like ahhhhh yeahhhh It's Se7en.

  • This is the only title sequence I've seen that actually made me look it up on YouTube :]

  • OMG - Same here!

  • The opening credits are extremely unsettling if you know the story ahead of time.

John Doe was a SEVERELY disturbed man.

  • @Dresden1065 You know his name wasn't actually John Doe, thats just what the police call someone they havn't got an ID for. They call a women with no name Jane Doe.

  • this was done by my cousin Kyle!!

  • your kyle coopers cousin? the man is a genious! he's the reason i do what i do. any chance i could send you an email with some questions for him to answer if he has time? im doing an essay on him at uni at the moment, i think he's great!

  • @MAClover6181

    are you serious? thats awsome!

  • this movie is the grittiest and most raw psychological thriller of all time, not to mention nine inch nails is god

  • one of the best serial killer movies ever. blows saw right out of the water

  • @JaredEricFusia It is the best!! I even like it better that The Silence of the Lambs".

  • @JaredEricFusia at this point...most movies blow saw out lol

  • did nine inch nails remix there song for the movie?

  • no, it was done by a seperate DJ

  • The title of the song is called Closer (Precursor)

  • Closer (Precursor) is not exactly the same. They probably took it, and edited it to make it more ambient.

  • John kinda reminded me of Jigsaw. Don't you guys agree?

  • Don't even try to compare the two, goddamn.

  • Why not? It's my goddamn choice.

  • I respect your right to be wrong.

  • Wrong about what? I didn't say anything despite that John reminded me of Jigsaw. O_o

  • jigsaws a fucken hollowed out, hollywood peice of shit with flawed motives and who has a boring background and dull, typical characterisation. John however....

  • Well I agree with you. Jigsaw definately reminds me of John. There's no denying the similarities.

I think it may be more due to the fact that the makers of SAW did it on purpose in an attempt to mimic the greatness that was John Doe.

Yet I still agree with you. Jigsaw is definately the poorman's (actually the little kid's) version of John Doe.

  • The opening title sequence of Se7en is legendary. In my opinion it showed just how much of an enigma John Doe really was. He lived alone, in a dark apartment, with dark notebooks, with dark thoughts, and a mission to fufill a dark purpose. John Doe was something else. He is way more interesting than Hannibal Lecter, and in my opinion FAR more intelligent. John Doe is the REAL genius, not him. Remember, in the film they had to break the law to catch this guy. He was too smart for the straight way

  • and even then........he turned himself in.

  • :D :D

  • ITS JUST A MOVIE. Dont take it too serious.

  • Does anyone know how the opening sequence was created, please share as I'd really like to know - mainly the way the names flicker.

  • all the flickering effects and most probably every effects for this title would have been done in a compositing program such as After Effects, Combustion, Apple Shake... i only have experience with after effects, it is a powerful program i which these effects are easily created

  • These effects are easily created using any editing software. You could use final cut pro and just keyframe a glow effect on the text to make it flicker. Easy. The names are just images of hand writing which have been edited in photoshop to remove the background.

All it takes to make something like this is a lot of imagination

  • this really is awesome stuff :)

  • Really chilling sequence, the gritty cut-aways worked well with that creepy NIN underscore.

  • "You got me closer to god."

  • they don't credit kevin spacey to not ruin the suprise

  • mateodawkins' theory sounds bang on.

  • I don't get the metronum part though. Why does he always have it tick when he's in bed?

  • re. the metronome question ;

Morgan Freeman's character [the cop] is a very meticulous, precise & exact person [just like the killer he seeks]...

and I think the metronome appeals to these qualities in the cop. As it too is precise & meticulous in the way it keeps perfect timing.

Many people would find that constant tick-ticking maddening & it would keep them awake.. but it probably sends him easily to sleep.

Possibly he throws it as he's now very disillusioned at this point in his life.

  • Thank you for that rational answer. I think it helped.

Then how do you explain why Somerset broke the metronome in the middle of the movie? What do you think is the symbolic significance of smashing it?

  • I havent seen Se7en for about 5 years, I thought you saw the cop break it near the very start, then the opening credits come. [?]

Maybe when he started on the job he was certain his view on life & his nature would make a big difference to crime in the city?

And from the speech he gives Brad Pitt about the mugger stabbing his victim in the eyes for no reason, it seems like later he's thinking all his effort & hard work didnt really amount to anything in the final analysis.

  • the speech was not directed to David Mills but to the Police chief...

  • the speech was not directed to David Mills but to the Police chief...

  • LateGreatBillHicks is wrong... Sommerset utilizes the metronome as an aid, a tool if you will. It helps him think. He's very systematic and logical in his approach to solving crimes... The rythm tends to help.

What you're supposed to draw from him smashing the metronome is that the John Doe case is too complex for systematic, logical deduction. The scene is to demonstrate his frustrations with the case....

  • "but it probably sends him easily to sleep."

I can't sleep without a fan on, an air conditioner on or a clock ticking...

    I'm not even kidding.

  • genius intro

  • Anyone know the song in here? i know its a sampling of "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails but i downloaded the song and its not the same.

  • It is "Closer (Precursor)" - Remixed by Coil and Danny Hyde. You can find the remix on the U.S. and UK-Version of "Closer".

  • If you look closely...you can see the killer slicing off his fingerprints.

  • sick

  • the best movie the all times...

  • The greatest title sequence I have seen thus far. An inspiration, indeed.

  • How so?

  • No, it isn't. You're a moron and your existence is overrated.

  • You get me closer to god! Best title sequence ever.

  • Best movie ever

  • That is the fucking scariest thing I've ever seen.
