Is it just me or were very many of these people in the ELCA conference truly fat? I mean, really heavy-almost obeast. Got to stop with the donuts and funnel cake!
Lutheranism trying to be progressive while remaining as "diverse" as cream cheese. It would be hilarious if someone weren't paying a lot of money for these people-and the rest of us didn't have to give these idiots tax breaks on their buildings and schools.
You can hear the same politics from ANSWER and other left-of-center groups and you don't have to get up early on Sunday to do it. Or sing stupid "multicultural" songs. This group is about as "vibrantly diverse" as cream cheese.
Lutheranism makes tapioca pudding seem spicy. It's so bland white bread looks vibrant next to it. You've lost over a fourth of your membership since the mid-eighties and your average Sunday attendance has dropped by over 10% in the past ten years, with a median age in church of over 58 years old. When Ole and Lena go to their graves, you will go the way of the Shakers. Tedious, tedious group of people talking to nobody about nothing.
This man would not know the Gospel if it were permanently tattooed on his hands. Neither would he know what it means to be evangelical. In fact the only letter of the ELCA abbreviation that remains accurate is the "A." The ELCA is not evangelical, nor Lutheran nor a church, but they are American. Ironically the one part of their abbreviation that they are, is the one they seem to wish they were't.
This video is supposed to explain what it means to be the ELCA. I am praying that you, Mark Hanson, and your group will find out. It is very, very sad.
These sad comments that seem to focus on the separateness of others. Who did Christ "hang" with? They were persons who were considered "scum" by the church fathers of the day. He preached love and compassion for ALL - but hey that's just my take on it.
It means you have a more enlightened and contemporary understanding of the teachings of Jesus Christ. After all, anyone with a college education knows that "Love thy neighbor" means oral and/or anal copulation between members of the same sex, right?
It means you are broad-minded and inclusive of other religions ... such as the worship of Baal, Molech, Ashtoreth, Aphrodite, Tammuz, Dagon, etc.
I am a very liberal lutheran, I never had a problem with ordaining woman and stuff. But I do admit that the ELCA has gone too far! Many communities cannot be called lutheran anymore, let alone christians! Today, it´s just a group of people who reunited to hear positive messages and sing songs that mean nothing. Many ultra-liberal pastors don´t even believe in God, and mentioning the Bible is becoming rare. Unfortunately, ELCA, just like the episcopal church, is becoming apostate.
I agree with you! I know an ELCA pastor who is preaching his political beliefs in the pulpit rather than the gospel. the ELCA needs to stop political rhetoric and unite in common belief as Christians, not liberals and conservatives.
I have been a member of many different kinds of Lutheran churches since 1944, when I was baptized in Minnesota. The Lutherans in the USA are struggling harder than ever to maintain a distinct identity in the world today. I pray for them/us all in Christs name.
To say that Zwinlgians were not of the same "spirit of faith" is not an institutional distinction, such as the LCMS and Catholics make with communion, it is a confessional distinction.
I think it doesn't matter because in communion the word is in it and it comes to you so how humans mess that up doesn't matter as it's all Christ. Luther's discontent came because to him the reform was only in what he saw as error within the church that wasn't biblical and it should have stopped there - communion is the mass. The Lutheran message has always had Christ as the center and our ecumenical relationships only give that message a larger audience. It's all good.
In the Colloquy Luther rejected sharing the Lord's Supper with Zwinglians because they were not of the same "spirit of faith." So Luther would yes be dissapointed with the ELCA's wide open communion policy, but he would be equally dissapointed with the LCMS' institutional barrier.
Bronxloyalist wake up. The ELCA has it's problems to be sure. But the LCMS is just as far from true Lutheranism. If you think Luther would be in favor of institutionally closed communion, then you need to read the Marburg Colloquy.
The apostate ELCA stopped being Lutheran a long time ago.Women 'PASTORS'supporters of abortion and denial of the true gospel and the promotion of the so-calld gospel of the UN.Better to call yourselves Unitarians.-The LCMS are true Lutherans, not the false teachers of the elca.
Thank Jesus that Bishop Hanson's not the liberal he's depicted to be--at least he'll proclaim the Gospel is true--I've never heard Schori do that. Ever.

An institutional distinction basically says it doesn't matter what you really believe as long as you're a member.
