@BulletProofGeek First off, check the upload date; the 7970 wasn't out yet. Second, I got the 6850 only temporarily. It was on sale for $110 when I got it. I'm going to sell it once Kepler comes out and get something like a GTX 660.
@cryptsys Yeah there was. This isn't a gaming build. It's mostly for video editing/3D rendering. Yeah I do some gaming, but I only have 4 games. They all run at 60fps maxed out so I'm fine with that. Plus with Kepler coming out in the next few months, I'll probably sell this and buy something like a GTX 670.
@cryptsys The GPU doesn't help AT ALL in 3D rendering. It's only for playback. And for the hard drive, I got it on sale during Black Friday it was only $70. HDD prices are insane due to floods in Thailand. Once they go back down I'll get a faster hard drive and use my current one as a backup. So pleasedon't tell me what to buy if you don't know the situation :)
@XxYouGotJakedxX If you're usign a PC for rendering, quadro(nvidia) is the best option for modeling there are a big range price/performance cards. CPU does all the jod. BUT that is too obsolete now. GPU rendering is the best way to render with Octane or Vray RT. SO nvidia you can get a pricey quadro 4000 at minimum, or a nvidia GT 560 o GT 560. is 10 times faster than your 5900 2600k mix.
So pleasedon't tell me what you buy if you don't know the situation :)
@peet88ember Wow nice copy and paste, that doesn't even make sense as I wasn't telling you what to buy. First, I'm not dropping $750 on graphics card. I actually paid for my build, not saying you didn't, so yes I actually care about value. And If you actually read my reply, you would see that I'm upgrading to Kepler and getting a faster hard drive when prices go back down. The 5900rpm hdd and the 6850 are only temporary. Ok?
@linglingjr Sorry for responding so late, but someone flagged your comment as spam. It's been working out great so far! The only issues I've been having is with my wireless connection itself, but not the adapter. I have no complains so far!
@XxYouGotJakedxX yeah my newegg order came in yesterday I got two adaptors they do work fine... y u make fun of the 6850? I just got one too you really don't need anything better with a good CPU it can play everything maxed out.
@linglingjr Don't get my wrong, the 6850 is an awesome card! I love it so far for gaming, but it's just not enough for my video editing and 3D modeling.
@XxYouGotJakedxX oh didnt know you actually had a service, how could i contact i dont want to spam your videos i cant pm you on youtube to and i have only msn.
@Karuvatto It fits, but barely. My RAM (G. Skill Ripjaws Z) is 40mm tall with the heatsinks, and it barely fits. So If you wanted to get something like the Corsair Vengeance, it wouldn't work. You could always get the LP version though...
@XxYouGotJakedxX Omg thanks for the fast response <3 I've been getting so nervous if it would fit or not.
The ram I'm getting has heat spreaders, not heat sinks - but that's not my concern.
On various unboxing videos of this motherboard, there's 2 gold triangle things on the left and top side of the motherboard, I figure you could keep the Frio's right side fan on but I wondered if you could have both of the fans on
So in short, do both of the fans fit? Or do you have only one?
@Karuvatto Yeah it's been actually more than I expected! I didn't think I could play certain games, and I think I went a little overkill with 16GB of RAM haha xD
@XxYouGotJakedxX Erm Just the fans that came as standard with the case, So: 1 large exhaust fan, 2 Side fans and one rear fan.. it stays very cool too.. Its like an air conditioner unit :D
@MM168NSX I only gamed for about an hour the other day, but in that short time period it I didn't see any issues! No ghosting (at least I couldn't tell!), really good colors imo. So I would say yes It's great for gaming. Here's a link to all of its specs: newegg(dot)com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236174&Tpk=asus%20vs247h
@Casmatik how could I've done better and why is the 6850 a joke? I got the hdd on sale for like $60. I'm not dropping $150 for a hdd...When prices go back down I'll probably use that 5900rpm hdd as a backup/storage.
seriously u can afford a i7 a SSD and a 2TB HDD but not a better graphix card like a hd 7970 or hd 6870?

@BulletProofGeek All of the 6850s were $150+ back in December.

Ohhh~! You've got the same set up I'm getting. I have a question, does your fan fit in the motherboard? The full Frio (With both fans)?
From other unboxing videos of the motherboard, it looked as if the heat sinks on the other side of the RAM slots would get in the way.
Mind telling me if it does?
