It's so weird that he says early Metallica and early Slayer is his favorite stuff... I find Annihilator's first two albums superior to anything those two bands have done...
I just LOVE how humble this guy is. Man, that's a super badass guitar player, a sweet teacher and a cool dude. No fancyin around, no "i want this that bla bla bla". Just a great musician with natural technique. Rock on, pal, and PLEASE come to France !! We love Québecois as well !
I hated V's originally as well just for that reason, I started with a strat and you play with it under your arm on your right thigh, now I play a Warlock and it has the cut-away on the tail. Now I play all guitars classical style. It was just a natural progression, especially when I wanted my left hand to be more free.
2 guitarists I really enjoy listening to as they talk are Paul Gilbert and Jeff Walters which are both among the nicest guys playing guitar. But while Paul makes you want to throw away your guitar as you know you will forever suck, Jeff makes you want to pick it and try to use his ideas :-)
I can totally relate to that "muscle shake" type thing he's talking about. I remember trying this years ago on the guitar, but also way back in the day with computer games. To try and click a controller button really fast, you had to lock you whole arm up and really tense up and just literally shake which would shudder your am really fast.
So back to the video - it's a good way to pick very fast but there's no way I could keep that going for a while song.
The fact that he had that much time to dedicate to his craft when he was young is amazing. I would love to have that much dedication time but unfortunately with this world being the piece of shit it is, we have to be so busy with stuff even at a young age. I know that may be a bit of an overstatement but it's true. People just don't have that kind of time anymore and it really sucks. Especially with all the advances in schooling and Jobs that bombard our lives to the core.
@Warhammer40kWarGamer That's funny, because I'm self taught. Also, I'm not knocking Jeff or his technique, I think hes a great player and he can obviously pull off elbow picking just fine! I can't, however. Can we leave it at that?
