  • QUESTION 5 WAS WRONG, M=2

  • This truly helped.

    Thank you.

  • Awesome..I like you're lesson..In Romania we have a complicated and a different method to solve the ecuation...

  • I used to love algebra. After 6 years of taking this class I dont remember anything!!!

  • this is so hard :D dont understand

  • i find this hard to masturbate to

  • and we need this because???

  • I figured out the problem. Doesnt mean I will remember how, hahaha.

  • Its official, Youtube has everything.

  • @Cabooseified Yeah. Not only youtube. But the whole world on the internet.

  • BIT THUMBS 1 LOVE MATH FUCK YEA

  • i understand it perfectly and easily dude......................... after by the explaination of teacher like this it would not be difficult to do any task in mathematics for anybody.

  • @aditya24499 yes your right..

  • 3:36 What?!?!?!?! you didn't solve the 4th problem!!!

  • Wow... for once in my life .... i'm sure the teacher is speaking the language i understand LMAo...

  • 14 people don't get it.

  • in my country, we dont add numbers to both sides. we simply transpose the number to the other side oft he equal sign making that number to a positive or a negative...

  • for the first question you can just do the opposite, since is x-5, you do 3+5 which is 8, but good teacher though, explains it whole lot further

  • @jordanxx311111 @ it is possible and valid. but he teaches us the addition property of equality which tells that whatever is added on the left side of the equation, the same quantity must also be added on the right side to maintain the eqaulity. In our class, it is required to use additional property when solving equations :D

  • Comment removed

  • So let me get this straight: to isolate "X" we can divide, multiply, add, or subtract? Or we have to only subtract ? I know it is a stupid question but I am eager to make sure.

  • I'm on to you, you didn't go over 4, btw y=7 bitch

  • this dont help!!!!!!!!!!

  • this guy puts waaaaay to many steps for the easy problems when u can just do it in ur head faster

  • I'm looking at these comments, and it's no wonder people hate America.

What do you do if you're not too bright? Find other morons and call things dumb. That way, you're not dumb! Do you waste-of-tax-dollars think that engineers build bridges by solving problems in their head? You need to understand techniques to solve more complicated math problems. So, you illustrate the idea with simple problems. This only works if you're not an idiot, though. Swearing on youtube does not a genius make.

  • I know this shit, He is taking it longer cuz he doesn't know much more so he expands what he knows as far as he can to make it look complicated but eventually this dipshit is gonna get bad comments when we hit 2050.

  • Another way of doing 2 is

    1+7 = 8 / 4a = 2, instead of "subtract 1 from both sides and multiply the reciprocal of 4"

Is it any wonder why people hate math? Teachers and whoever made these equations just complicate shit to much for the sake of "trying to challenge your minds".

  • in 2:01 u can also do division

    like 4/8

    and 8/4

more easy way to do reciprocal one ^^

  • basically, what he's demonstrating is the very basics of algebra.

  • teacher your method is very complicated....

  • i don,t understand and i,m in year 9

  • You can just use transposing method, right? It's faster and easier

  • @Kenoburned, @leftocastpunx83 I'm also a first year math teacher in 9th grade and this concept is causing major headaches

  • lol those math sound like elementary school math for me. i cant believe someone can heve difficulty with something as easy as this. :O

  • @Kenoburned I'm a first year high school math teacher and i'm doing this with my 9th graders and i'm totally dumbfounded at how many high school kids don't even know where to start solving problems like this. the educations system, supported by poor parenting, is on a major decline.

  • maybe his just suggesting that u can solve it in ur head..

  • hahaha.. Highschool days...

  • Excellant explanatiion.

  • This has to be the best video I've found on linear equations. Thank you for the clarification.

  • I LOVE THIS VIDEO

  • On problem #1 Why did he pick the number 5 to add? Why not the number 99? I'm lost.

  • @vtwzy

Because whatever he does to one side of the equation(sides being defined by the left and right of the equals sign) he must do to the opposing side. In these kinds of equations your trying to get every number on the one side opposite of the variable(the letter). Since the variable side had a five on that side he added the amount that would negate the five to both sides, in this case a positive five.

  • @vtwzy cause he wants to find the value of x. So you take negative value of whatever the number beside x. here it's x-5 so he added 5, if it was x-99 he would have added 99 on both sides. hth.

  • Major anxiety. There goes my GPA.

  • this is a great teacher

great teaching abilaties and explains well

  • This guy is wonderful. FINALLY I understand this crap!

  • ayy dis dude really helped me out today wit ma hmwrk so THANK YOU!!!

  • Algebra tiles made it even more clear for me.

  • totally understand now..this will really help me in ma 8th grade year

  • this guy has over complicated this extremely simple concept. i can teach this 100 times better

  • i am better than him :)

  • What.????? I so did not get that. I am in 6th grade and we r learning alegbra and Linear Equations. Any one have and videos to suggest me? Please help. I'm totally lost!

  • he is my grandfather

  • @mateosivi well tell him to make more vids

  • if you have 8=4a then its easier to divide by 4 on both sides so 8/4=4a/4 2=a

  • this is good but slow up a little, and also please dont miss any steps, ive notice that, stupid people like me get lost easy if even a small part is missing,it must all be wrote down. But its super really overall

  • Thank you for making this so easy

  • the best

  • OMg I love this video you just made my exam a lot easier to understand. I've been sitting in my room for hours trying to figure out these types of problems and after watching this short video it has answered all of my questions all in one with a basic understanding to exam questions. Thanks Professor you are the best!

  • this guy makes everything seem complicated even with the simplest of stuff

  • So, basically when you have a negative you add a positive and vice verse??

  • math is gay!

    ugghh..

  • what book u useing like what math book

  • For the third problem, why don't you just multiply both sides by 3?The two-thirds becomes 2X, and eight times three equals twenty-four.This way is easier and faster.

  • on the 4th problem, how did you get #1 : 3x??!

  • Bwiset! imbes na mapadali mo ang math mas lalo mo pang pinakumplikado!!!!!!!!

  • @klferdz hahha! i agree!

  • Ur good but u make things complicated from when you can just add 5 to both sides so x will equal 8

  • woow i wish he was my teacher.... he is so good at this

  • i didnt get how he got 1/5 on 4:27 please HELP!

  • Bobatii, in order to move the -5 from the X to the other side of the equation, you have to perform the opposite operation. Since -5X really means -5 multiplied by X, you need to divide by -5. Since he is talking about the Multiplication property here, he writes it as -1/5.

I have always found it easier to write it like he does on the next problem where he has -10x/-10. It means the same and it is less confusing.

  • multiplying by -1/5 is the same thing as dividing by -5 if you would rather think of it that way.

  • He just multiplied the reciprocal of -5 on both sides to get rid of the five so the x can be alone.

    -5=-1/5

  • its the reciprocal of 5x. He does that to make X by itself.

  • he explains it oddly but when you divide fractions you multiply by the reciprocal. in some cases it's written more simply by dividing on both sides. there are many ways to go about math equations keep that in mind :)

  • damn he is better than my teacher, thx for the time and knowlege u given me! God Blesss

  • All of these problems may be confusing, yes, but I paused it an worked my way throught them and it all made sense. But the decimals were confusing!!!

  • I like this guy, his teaching is good. I am preparing for calculus I and thought it would be good to refresh some of my algebra 1 and 2 theories. Keep up the good work!

  • I wished he was my teacher!!!!!

  • @niphe *Wish

  • Woww now this is confusing :S I thought it was just 8..

  • I'm trying to re-learn this stuff for a civil exam. I'm not clear on #2 where 1/4 is thrown in to solve problem.

  • Wow, I was doing just fine unill problem #3. 2/3X = 8 up till now EVERYBODY has been telling me that here "8" is what 2/3x is EQUAL TOO......then he goes and changes the answer of "8" to "12" ???? Dude, I am really glad your a brain and understand what your doing, but you are just too smart to be teaching, because you are assuming people that are watching your video ALREADY KNOW WHAT YOUR SAYING. Wrong. People are tuning in to your video to LEARN WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.

  • no need to gripe, I can help you understand why the 8 was changed to 12.

2/3x =8 because well, you can think of it like this. the word "times" can be replaced with "of".

so "two thirds of x equals eight"

in a fraction the number on the bottom represents the maximum number that the top number can be before the fraction is equal to one.

ie. "one third of x equals 4" "two thirds of x equals eight", and "three thirds of x equals twelve" three thirds being equal to one.

  • If you idiots who are dissing this guy's approach were (good) teachers, you would know that he is taking the long route which details ALL of the possible steps in solving these expressions. Yes some things might be different, but this approach allows people with different learning styles to be accommodated.

Because you might know this stuff already it doesn't diminish its value to newbies. Let's face it - some of your brain-dead approaches don't encourage understanding, but rote! Shut up!

  • His making it Harder than it Is. I mean why in teh world will divide/multiply with fracitons again? XD

  • thank you for the explanation..quite helpful

  • there is much simpler ways of solving these simple equations... eight grade maths

  • Eighth grade English FTW

  • thank you i get this now and im only in seventh grade

  • why learn algebra? were never gonna go there "Billy Connely"

  • why lift weights, or even get out of bed? the simple answer is that it keeps your brain sharp. if you have a dull brain then how useful is it as a tool?

  • good man we arabs created algebra :D

  • Thanks a lot, sir. It was very useful to me

  • Too complicated, he explains it as if you already know how to do the problem.

  • THANK You .. EXACTly .. I read a book on Website for DUMMIES and they using these BIG terms as if I already new the stuff . I'm a DUMMY. They using the word Syntax .. Like I know what it mean??

  • I agree they expect you to know some of this already.

  • BurningCrusadez "NURD"

    Well, it's actually spelled NERD.

It's much better to be an intelligent NERD than a complete moron whom cannot spell even the most simple words.

  • Must be from california...My Algebra teacher is a 90 year old former mechanical engineer and he despises our textbooks..

He hates every last one of us, but he teaches it right...

  • simple 3: 2x=24 easy he does that so hard

  • ygdyd

  • NURD

  • mate, thats not neccessary. hes teaching others. i dont see you doing that.

  • god why multiply by the recipricol(sp?) just divide its easier.

  • exactly.. Just divide dude!

  • .

Vaya hasta que hay videos de provecho en la red. Felicidades y tambien dejenme decirles que he encontrado un sitio llamado

    wannasol com

ahi hay videos también no como estos pero puede ayudarles en sus clases de matematicas.

    Saludos

  • I don't like how he did an extra step for the first problem: X-5=3

All you have to do is +5 to make it 0 and then +5 to the +3 to make it +8. X= 8 Then.

    Instead he did X-5 +5=3+5

    Why place two extra 5's?

  • you're making life so difficult.

  • He made that second problem WAY more difficult than it needed to be.

  • He sure did. All he had to do was divide both sides by four...

  • Look just gather the the like terms to one side by bringing them across the equals sign and by changing the -/+ sign and all the numbers to one side besides all this bullshit.

  • I dont know why they like complicating things for people when you can just isolate the 4a by bringing over the the -1 and change the sign and then divide by 4 to equal a

  • I hate how teachers and professors want you to write out problems you can easily solve in your head. It complicates things and causes math anxiety. It makes the problem seem more difficult to students than it really is. It's also an efficient sleeping pill.

  • I totally agree there are many ways to solve this but they should just keep it simple.

  • @GenerationX1984 Maybe you can easily solve them in your head, but people new to algebra need to work them out time and again repetitively to get as good at it as you. I think this man is a good teacher.

  • @GenerationX1984 lazy!!

  • @GenerationX1984

Yup. I remember just not giving a fuck, solely because I had to spend more time writing shit out that I actually spent solving the problem.

  • @GenerationX1984 everything they teach is for a reason. you need all the smaller things later in harder math.

  • @GenerationX1984

trust me dude, i hate work, but writing the answer out the long way will help you solve ANY math problem.

  • too easy

  • In spanish pleaseee! unless sub

  • Thank you sir... it is great to study al-jabr here on youtube.

  • i got homework in math, can anyone help me?

    1. the quotient of a certain polynomial and -7m(squared) is 9m(squared) + 3m + 5 - 2(over)m. find the polynomial.

    2. suppose that a polynomial of degree n is divided by a monomial of degree m to get a polynomial quotient. (a) how do m and n compare in value? (b) what is the expression that gives the degree of the quotient?

  • 5-2x=3x+1

    5--3x -3x

    -5=-5x=1

^^^ how does he come up with a negative 5 on that one? the subtraction sighn is behind the 5 not in front of it

  • disregaurd

    nevermind i got it

  • i dont understand why he multiplies -5x=-4 with -1/5...??? isnt it easier to multiply both of them with just -1? u get 5x=4, divide both by 5 u get x=4/5...

  • 2

    - X = 8

    3

2x = 8*3 --> the "3" was dividing (/) it goes to the other side of the (=) sign to multiply (*)

    2x = 24

X = 24/2 the "2" was multiplying (*) so it goes to the other side to divide (/)

    X = 12

Save some paper and time by just changing the operation sign when moved to the other side of the (=)

  • Why does he do that complicated? You just need to know: * if you're adding (+), it goes to the other side as subtracting (-) or viceversa * if you're multiplying (*), it goes to the other side as dividing (/) or viceversa *if you have an exponent it goes to the other side as a radical, or viceversa x-5=3 --> is (-) so it becomes (+) when moved to the other side of the (=) sign x=3+5 x=8 7=4a-1 7+1=4a (-) became (+) when moved 8=4a 8/4=a (*) became (/) when moved 2=a
  • He explains that very well

  • he making it seem so hard lol

  • Thing is you show the work down to the last digit, which i fail to do like in your question x-5=3..ill skip the first step and keep x=3 change signs to 5 and you got +5 so x=3+5...

  • algebra is so gay u never use it in life

  • yes you do. try being a doctor.

  • In #3 HOW COME U HAVE TO TIMES INTO 12 ???????

  • that was very helpful

  • I love you...

  • Im reviewing for an exam today. Thank you for the help but it was overly complicated. Not all students are majoring in Mathematics. Most only need a simple efficient method to solve.

  • Thx. I found this video really, really helpful.

There are many different ways to solve a problem. This instructor does a great job of showing us how to solve equations with the rules of equality. He starts with simple problems and works his way to more difficult ones. All the solutions he presents utilize the rules of equality in a nice concise manner. Good job!

  • for the second problem, multiply by a reciprocal? what? u could just divide 4 to both sides, its so much less confusing and easier. even i know that and i suck in algebra

  • tu vieja me la suda

  • I learned this in beginning algebra

  • Aha I get it wow..

  • this is so difficult!!! at 1:52 you can only change ''8=4a'' to ''a=8/4'' that's all!!

  • On Question #2; instead of multiplying 8 and

4a by 1/4, you could just divide by 4. i got the same answer.

  • Thank you so much for this

  • As he said, even though its sounding complex, he's teaching the steps on easy problems in prep for tougher ones. It isnt needed on the problem one, but as they get tougher, it helps.

  • Daaammmnn! This guy's making things way to complicated. I think you're a good teacher, but I agree with vladimirkafm, all you need 2 do is transpose, far less complicated.

  • thanks for the info

    I really appreciate it

  • You are making the solution very long. All you just have to do is transpose. Put the same variables on the same side. When it is positive it will become negative and when it is negative it will become positive.

  • heck, thats tooooo much work, all u have to do is to move the negative 5 over, making it a positive, so

    X-5=3 becomes

    X=3+5.

    and X still equals 8

The negative 5 moves over to the other side of the equal sign, become a positive 5, or +5

  • But when you bring into the more complex use of Radicals and stuff, this technique will screw you up.

The technique he is teaching is good for future use with radicals. You cannot take from one radical and swap it to the other, so you must add or subtract from or with both sides..

    Check it out.

  • when radicals... you just changed it to an exponent... if the radical index is 3, it becomes to a 3rd power exponent and so on...

  • listen to what he said it was just a simple example moron

  • ummm. Too fast?

  • nah ur just slow =)

  • lmao

  • I'm sorry, but you still don't explain WHY you've added a +1 to each end. In ENGLISH, not the bastardised version of english that all math teachers seem to use.

E.g: "What I want to do is solve this for X". If I said this to someone out of context it would not stand up. He is implying that X, an inanimate character, is asking us to solve an equation for it.

Why can't they just say: "We need to find out what this number is, and this is how."

Then maybe I would have listened to them.

  • I never noticed that, I'm going to tell that to my next math teacher "X can solve this problem himself!!!"

  • i dont get number 3 !

  • hes bald thats why he can think good no hair is covering his memory or brain hes a genius. the bald genius

  • BORING!!!!!!!!!!

  • it wasn't boring

  • Que rayos es esto

  • ¬¬

  • thx, that was helpful

  • wtf algebra?

  • How do we trust this guy is a "real" teacher?

  • Maybe he's not, but he DOES know Algebra.

  • when doing algebra, always think of x,x, and x. Always

  • You, Mr. Teacher, have done a wonderful job in helping THIS TEACHER review his algebra basics. Thank you ... impressive!

  • for number 2 here is how i get my answer 7=4a-1

    +1 +1

    =8 =1

    8= 4a divide these numbers

    4a=4a a=2 is your answer.

  • Thats something very nice to say to a person who spent a lot of time making this video to help you.

  • twice easyer my way, no unneeded steps x-5=3 x=3+5 x=8 7=4a-1 7+1=4a 8=4a 1 8=4a / . - 4 2=a all you need to do is transfer numbers and when transfering if negativ becomes a positive and if positive becomes negative. BTW he has managed to complicate every single equation with pointless adds Hope your not a real teacher becouse you suck. if you want real education come to Europe
