  • AHHHHHHHHHHH REAL JAZZZZZZZZZZZZ

  • AHHHHHHHHHHH REAL JAZZZZZZZZZZZZ

  • love this it is real

    pl

  • oooohh.... those house parties in the late seventies... early eighties I remember them as if it was yesterday

  • Best 8 mins I spent on Youtube. I found this song using the Shazam app on a movie (I forgot what name it was) several months ago and I knew it sounded familiar. New school music sucks and as a young guy, I prefer oldies than new school (Kid Cudi being an acception).

  • It's all progression. Ramsey begat EWF. James Brown begat P-Funk. Never thought my music would be Ol-skool. Let the love flow

  • and you stop (remix) rhymester の元ネタ発見!

  • Maurice White + The late, great Charles Stepney + Ramsey Lewis + Don Myrick + EWF= One of the best instrumentals ever produced. This was the time for Fender Rhodes and Arp String Machines.

  • like Don Cornelius use ta say, "...and here's a GROOVE dat make ya wanna MOVE real SMOOTH......"

  • This album's a masterpiece...

  • I REMEBER THE OLD HEADZ HARMONIZING TO THIS ON THE CORNER WITH A BOTTLE OF WILD IRISH ROSE AND YELLING AT EACH OTHER ABOUT WHO WAS OFF BEAT GOOD MEMORIES AND WHAT MUSIC WAS ALL ABOUT BACK IN THE DAY FELLOWSHIP AND LOVE

  • I REMEBER THE OLD HEADZ HARMONIZING TO THIS ON THE CORNER WITH A BOTTLE OF WILD IRISH ROSE AND YELLING AT EACH OTHER ABOUT WHO WAS OFF BEAT GOOD MEMORIES

  • I REMEBER THE OLD HEADZ HARMONIZING TO THIS ON THE CORNER WITH A BOTTLE OF WILD IRISH ROSE

  • Starting at 5:00 is my favorite part :]

  • Listen to Verdine's bassline...WICKED!

  • Can't forget Al Mckay's guitar opening and also Philip Bailey's harmonies....and Larry Dunn's keyboards.....

  • Good Music never gets old.

  • It's the title track from the 1974 Ramsey Lewis album Sun Goddess. EWF's founder Maurice White produced and co-wrote it. EWF recorded a live rendition of the song for its Gratitude album.

  • Forgot about this gem..ON THE SOLO ! 74 Jam .

  • @coffeegirl5912 How could any one ever forget this gem of a masterpiece

  • never guess who co-wrote the music?

  • read the credits on the LP, look who perform and who's voice is that singing lead but...... well check it out and find the answer :)

  • aylisa milano nice i can relate to her with this song if you get my meaning very pretty. COOL eddie cortez o.c. califas

  • This song take me back to my childhood growing up in the 80's. Sunday my dad would be making a big family meal. this song and other classics playing. Me helping my mom clean the house to get ready for the big sunday meal. ahh the memories.

  • @MsMedford Oh also the part when you sucked your dad's cock?

  • Still an amazing classic. So beautiful!

  • beautiful music..love this

  • fantasticc...love this groove

  • Maurice was Ramsey drummer in the Trio days!

  • The sound is beautiful.......!!!!!!

  • summertime in richmond!!!

  • Allowing embedding is a courtesy you should consider.

  • I was one of those who knew this was from Ramsey Lewis, since I was a fan of his from the 60's. I didn't realize till later that EW&F did this with Andrew Woolfolk playing the tenor solo.

  • Is there a greater jazz song than this? If so let me know.

  • I CAN NOT IMAGINE MAURICE WHITE WITH OUT RAMSEY LEWIS AND RAMSEY LEWIS WITH OUT THE TIMELY MAURICE WHITE & PHILLIP BAILEY

  • Nothin like the sound of a Fender Rhodes!!!!

  • @oneluv72 you can say that again!

  • @ltinsley2

I just read Don Cornelius shot himself! Oh my gosh! How sad for us all. Lisa

  • Ramsey Lewis has the most infectious smile!

  • this is clissic earth wind and fire.

  • Seeing him on Friday at the Glasgow Jazz Fest!!! Absolutely cannot wait. . .

  • If you find the EWF LIVE IN 75" cd you will here Ramsey do this song live with EWF. Its a nice one to have too.

  • Ramsey Lewis and the Elements, EARTH, WIND, & FIRE!!! Nuff said!!!

  • There are a number of people from Mexico who are jazz specialists believe it or not.. this song is a masterpiece just for this song I bought the EWF gratitude 4 times.. 3 LPs and on Cd just in case one of my albums get spoiled.. this song is probably the best song I have eve heard.

  • Wasn't a part of this also used in the Bionic Woman series in the 70's? The part before the Way-oo part...

  • This IS an EWF song, y'all. It's Ramsey Lewis FEATURING EWF. (Read my post below.)

On their live Grattitude version, at the intro, Maurice even says, "We'd like to do a special song for you, a song we had the pleasure of recording with Ramsey Lewis."

  • This song doesn't just feature Maurice White of EWF...it's a full Ramsey Lewis/EWF collaboration. Maurice White on drums, Philli Bailey on congas, Don Myrick on Sax, Johnny Graham on Guitar, and, I believe, that's Larry Dunn on the other organ you hear that's NOT Ramsey, not to mention Maurice and Phillip on the vocal. . I remember this, because I once had the album and it was listed in the credits. How could the poster have slept on all that since he posted the song?

  • @DaBigMotor -was Verdine on bass?

  • genius

  • I know I thought it was an EWF song because its on their Gratitude album. I ignored as a kid they mentioned ramsey lewis.

  • e-40 sampled this in I Hope I Dont Go Back.

  • Music's glory years, man... From the 1950's- 2003. After that, corporate America took that shit over and poisoned it. Mind you, I was born in '78. So I can appreciate music before my time. But not these motherfuckaz claiming they're making music today. yall be safe!

  • @phesterjr I WOULD SAY MORE LIKE 1950-1998 BUT THATS JUST ME

  • @mykgroov To a degree, I'll agree with you because certain elements of you music started becoming too pop oriented. But I say 2003 because Neo Soul was doing good back then. Now Neo Soul is dead.

  • @mykgroov I agree

  • @phesterjr

Wow you are so right on with your views and I agree with you it is nutz out there calling it music.....yikes..!

  • @phesterjr PREACH PREACH PREACH!!!!

  • @MsMedford STFU STFU STFU!!!!

  • @firetooIs yawn @ fag troll

  • @MsMedford *yawn* umadtroll?

  • @firetooIs go play in traffic homo

  • @phesterjr Thanks, mister. :)

  • @phesterjr you are the first person that named the exact same years i did. i say from the beginning of time til about 04-06ish

  • This is the best ever written song by Mr. Ramsey Lewis. I love it.

    AED, JR.

  • One of my favourite songs of all time

  • Black & Soul! <3

  • Recuerdo bailando este tema en la pista rodante de Don Chufo (Barcelona)...¡Qué tiempos!

  • "Bwayoh" was to EWF as "Eeyoh" was to the Police

  • @SupernalOne And what "Day-O" was to Harry Belafonte. :-)

  • WHAT A SONG!!! Loved it in the 70s, LOVE It even more now

  • My favorite EWF tune. Ramsey just made it better.

  • in memory to the late and missed charles stepney and maurice white

  • @everton28ish Maurice isn't dead yet--please stop burying that man!

  • not sure if I like this or the Gratitude EWF version more....

  • God damn.. <3

  • a sweet♥ song .. ♫♪♫ .. makes you fall in love with just ... love. ♥

thank you for this post.. sweet sweet music.. xx

  • one person sucks major __________

  • Sheer mastery!!! Where have all the flowers gone??

  • Had this album in '75 and wore out 2 needles. Analog!

  • WAY-OOH...WAY-OOH...BAH-BAH WAY-OOH...

  • I can't decide if this is smooth or funky? i guess it's both SMOOTH AND FUNKY and that's a real achievement. Feel good music.

  • "Remember when we all thought this was from an EWF album"?

  • @xenosavant11 - it's funny you said that, for about the first ten years after I heard this I searched high and low thinking it was on some EWF album I hadn't heard of. LOL

  • @xenosavant11 If you are still unsure, this version basically has the entire Earth Wind & Fire group playing on it. Not long after this had become a hit, Earth wind & Fire did include a live version of this song on the "Gratitude" album.

  • @xenosavant11

    no? lol

  • @xenosavant11 yeah; I was just a kid ;)

  • Maurice before the birth of EWF! was the Drummer for Ramsey lewis, and the rest they say is!~ HISTORY!~~

  • How do you know I am not "white" or of European decent? ..or whatever? It doesn't matter to me what nationality these awesome people are. They're not prejudice against any strain of people who inhabit various parts of the world. They understand that in order to exist in greatness (lets face it, nobody else is doing a good job at it) there must be a mutual understanding between everyone of "HOW THINGS WORK". Apparently, everyone is dumb because they're chasing the wrong thing.... money!

  • @thisislogout artist today want the money yesterday artist played music because they love it that why today it's not the same music as yesterday music

  • Comment removed

  • Great song

  • There are no Black People. There are no White People. Just Human Species. Don't be fooled by the racists.

  • @thisislogout

what is this bs? so tigers dont exist, lions dont exist, just big cats? eagles dont exist hawks dont exist, just birds? why do so many goofy negroes think wiping out their own identity will eliminate racism?? its total folly.

  • @shoobedoorocketship : Dude, .. Humans gave these cats and birds "names" (black panther, Lion, White Tiger) ("bald" eagle, "red tail" Hawks) but do you really think It matters to animals what color they are? Or do they themselves even go by those names? No! My point is, Africans in the 15th Century didn't call themselves "Africans", or "black". Europeans in the 15th Century didn't call themselves "White". This was all invented when slavery was born. Are you getting the picture?

  • @thisislogout

oh yeah?? and what the bloody fuck is so special about the word HUMAN? nothing! it was a word given and invented like any other name. and i also know that "race" and "whiteness" was invented in the middle ages butt he concept of blackness is thousands of years old. if you were sufficiently informed, you would already know that. there is only one "race", the black "race"-with its various mutations.

  • @shoobedoorocketship : Okay, fine. Then that means we are all related and it's stupid to be fighting amongst each other while the wealthy Corporations, control and dominate everything with their power and money and treat everyone and our planet like crap. The only thing that makes sense in this world right now is the venus project.

  • @thisislogout

venus project??? you would recommend something controlled and designed wholly by white folks...lol

  • @shoobedoorocketship its not all by white folks. if your black, brown, yellow, or red, your natual history tells you that you adored the sun and the universe. instead some corrupt white folks got us pretending theirs was "it". but some white folks want to change that also....venus project also has people of color.

this song is awesome, to the beauty of women of COLOR :D

  • @thisislogout for real. thats what i keep trying to tell people.

  • How does something as beautiful as this kind of music generate so much negativety on the comments,Enjoy and share the positive.

  • @GPalm59

because important subjects are worth talking about.

  • Perfection ! During 8 minutes and 26 seconds I was somewhere else.

  • Nice cut, I just ripped this from the original LP and put it on my Ipod!!

  • The ultimate feel good song

  • My classmate use to try to play this on his sax in the 6th grade, that's where I published my very first writing article....shot out to Northside...and to Anthony you played this tune real close...but, probably can play nicely now.

  • Bway-oh!

  • Hey...on the solo....

  • One of the greatest songs, I learned this playing the Saxophone, and still play it today 40 years later, Classic...!

  • solid and in the pocket

  • I this doesn't make you feel good, nothing will

  • @Suggsonbass It captures the quest for the spirit to be free and all the ups and downs trying to get there but in the end, the spirit WINS

  • @Suggsonbass I'm telling you. I'm so glad I was alive during this era

  • @davidvirgodc I was alive but in nappies so I don't think that counts. Your's will go down as one of the best generations in history

  • Black? White? That's such 60's thinking. When I hear it I see all colors . . .therefore I paint :)

  • another all time great piece of Music...LOVE this!

  • Part of the SOUNDTRACK of my life.

  • @palmares you are right its the same way with the blues which is a music that came out of our day to day trying to deal with the horrors of living in the south in the 20s and 30s. You cant come along and think you are reinventing the blues its something you had to feel and live

  • @brickchruch Yes sir.

  • sampled by e-40

  • Pure magic...Oh I need to play an instrument. Guitar hell yes, keyboards, drums ohh yeah!!!!!

  • ... play this .. windows down .. driving on a beautiful day ...

  • bad fkn jam, brings back high school days..

  • thats right.. Ramsey Lewis the coolest, baddest mother fucker to jam that funk down...

  • What a jam!! Monster jam

  • Im only 24 but this song and Roy Ayers "Everybody loves the sunshine" are two of my Dad's favorite songs and they are great songs that make me think of my old man for sure and I like them myself!!!! I tell my older relatives they were truly apart of a great, honorable & respectable class of blacks that pushed up foward in every way!!!

  • EWF live version was good too.

  • @OWN12S this IS essentially Earth, Wind & Fire. Produced by Maurice White. Maurice White on Drums & vocals. Phillip Bailey: Congas & vocals. Verdine White on Bass & vocals etc. etc.

  • loving it being high yellow my main squeeze (lol) used 2 call me his sun goddess

  • I can't stop listening to this it reminds me of when I was very little!!

  • Woah, if you guys feel me on this one, its ass smooth and groovy as a combination of John coltrane, grover washington, and bobby wattson!

You gotta groove and reminisce to this one!

  • E-40 - Hope I Don't Go Back to slangin yayo, slangin yayo, to get my mayo!

  • The pure genius of arranger Charles Stephney. With Ramsey laying the spaghetti sauce on top of a killer musical pasta. The rhythm on this track is just badazz.

  • @Lexuses71 I heard Chuck Stephney died a young man. As a 38 yr old really improving my musical tastes and passions, that man WAS A GENIUS.

  • Comment removed

  • @palmares77 If I'm not mistaken, he was 46 at the time of death. I heard a rumor that they got the news of his death in the middle of recording "Getaway" on the "Spirit" LP.

  • @MyJunior1975 WOW... Such a tragic loss to the music world.

  • Whatever happened to Ramsey Lewis after this?

  • glad to find this song. it's radiant indeed.

  • In my prime in SPHS school yearbook 1975

  • Yea I agree jarbon5,beat is totally a classic sound, Sun Goddess,,The perfect Name,it alone should get a Grammy

  • Dwele ,Angie stone...Eric roberson jill scott...erykah badu..(dodges salad bar) these are the soul singers of taday just to name a few and as to the jazz cats of today like robert glasper/ ?uestlove.. they are the ones on the come up.. and before someone says im some old guy.. im 22..

  • @futured1prospect and you can identify with "real music". and I'm 52.

  • yes i agree the golden age a african american music is long gone.. 90% of what you hear these days is reproduced crap via computer...(aka Hip POP) I think the good music that talked about stuff died in the early 90's early hip-hop was good stuff.. the samples the meaning behind the lyrics/rhyme actually meant something and the samples paid homage to the greats before them such as EWF,herbie,Bob james, sly and the fam. just to name a few but now its all crap with the exception of a small few

  • @futured1prospect I AGREE !

  • @futured1prospect i agree

  • @futured1prospect i dont think it died my man. like with anything else its just an always progressive art. just depends on how you look at it.

  • @TENtoKOGA Criminality, thugs, dope, pimps, drugs dealing, over sexuality is what you call proggresive.corporate accountants

  • This song is just.. artists back then had it goin on! ahhhhh ahhhhh ahhhhh

    thanks for sharing!

  • Man....i grew up on ramsey lewis back in the day for real. the 70s and early 80s and i tell you when he plays this song at his most recent concerts, it still sounds the same, even though the instruments are new. ramsey....always keeping it real......holla bak

  • My dad played this record over and over when I was kid...that's hip!

  • As a hip hop head. I've really learned over the years to appreciate awesome music like this. Next to "In the Stone" this is my favorite EWF jam and I like " The in Crowd" by the Ramset Lewis trio too !

  • The baddest funk/jazz piano solo ever.

  • hard it live at the playboy jazz in L.A.

  • This song made me want to learn artists names and titles...awesome song!

  • palmarras77, All So True,, Remember the Greats , Soon they will be gone and all we will have left are Has Been Copy Cats who play Instruments through a Recording Machine,,

  • While cursing and calling women "bitches" and "ho's" - not what I call music.

    No, not at all.

  • genio maestro y puro funk jazz,

  • I was only 2 when this song dropped! Pure Genius! Over the years, I have realized that BLACK MUSIC is dying..............Treasure the greats while you can.

  • @palmares77 This song came out in 74, you were born in 77, so you wernt even born yet.

  • @jason75 How do you know when I was born????. Like I said, I was 2. Born in '72. Do the math. 37 now soon to be 38 in August.

  • @palmares77 You could not of remember that I am 4 years on you, you cant remember your first 3 years. you probably heard it on the radio, and its flash points you just remember maybe bits and pieces. Your status saids 77 so I assumed, like my saids 75, I put 75 cause it was a good year for me..

  • @jason75 Honest mistake

  • @palmares77 what exactly is BLACK MUSIC???

  • @DiscoJoints Black Music is THIS

  • @iman5497 but how does one distinguish "BLACK" music form other music??? What makes it "BLACK"? Can a "white" artist like say Robin Thicke make "BLACK" music????

  • @DiscoJoints Well, I can't speak for Robin Thicke as far as what he CAN or CAN NOT say...that choice is up to him. As far as it being "Black" music, the reason I say what I say is because I study music and I do music myself as well. If you know history of music and where a lot of it derived from, you would know that originated from Africa which is where 'Black" people originated from. There is no reason to get offended by it. If you feel it's something different, that's you.
