It sounds like someone is slaughtering an animal slowly for 4 minutes. Why anyone would consider this something good to listen to is beyond my scope of comprehension. How this only has 26 dislikes is also beyond me. This sounds like a first year piano student mindlessly banging on the keys while an obviously tweaked out and drunk woman with mental issues grunts, groans, screams, and makes random noises. The fact that she has made money off of this reduces my faith in humanity to a new low.
@tiggetty - You haven't a clue. I've seen her live and her voice is incredible. Then again, I listen to opera and classical music and her voice is definitely for the more refined taste. If you don't like her, then just go listen to something you do like instead of trying to bring everyone else down to your miserable level. They don't say 'misery loves company for nothing.' Just go and find something that DOES make you smile.
@tiggetty Yeah you reckon? Bet you like lady gag gag though. Maybe you should check out some of her other songs before you pass illinformed comments, shes a dynamic singer and not a piano player btw
@tiggetty "First year piano student!?" That's hilarious! I have a strong feeling you're in no way, shape or form capable of an actual critique on her playing.
@TheStoicFuror You obviously don't comprehend the meaning behind this woman. You also can't grasp the virtuosity of her technique. Do you think many people can sing like that without bleeding at the end? She can sing anything, in any way. SHE is an ARTIST ! So proud this woman is Greek :)
I love this so much, for me her version is the best ever. She sounds like she's completely out of her mind, and this fits the song perfectly. THAT'S how you're supposed to sing a song about being obsessed with someone.
I'm pretty fucking thankful that this song wasn't written about me. Or sung for me. Because I'm pretty sure blood would be erupting from every orifice of my body having heard this, if it HAD been directed at me.
@khmerhexe ou yes I was also one of the lucky people! I've heard there were A LOT of people who wanted to go but on the end, there werent any tickets left!
@NikBallion I was waiting 4 hours before the concert started (went 5 pm to the Opera house) just to be one of the lucky ones. I was sitting in the 6th row and it was one of the Highlights of that festival.

Diamanda Galas should do the soundtrack for "Last Rites: The Return of Sebastian Vasilis. produced and directed by Sam Raimi, starring Bruce Campbell as Karl, Gene Simmons as Sebastian, Randy Quaid as Lyndon, Jessica Biel as Kate.

SIGH, no kidding. EVERY music has repetitions, loops, sequences that form the basic structure of a composition, Einstein, even classical music. But if you turn on the radio you'll hear basically the same shit over and over again, all singers sounding the same, all beats identical, no personality whatsoever, that's what I mean, but it obviously went WAY over your tiny little head.
wtf ? is she giving birth ? simply not of this planet . great !!! wild banshee your right on that , imagine having a nite out with her , crazeeeee !!1
There are so many good versions of 'I put a spell on you' for example Nina Simone, Buddy Guy, Canned Heat, Joe Cocker,Marilyn Manson and of course the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins all of whom work their own magic juju, but you get the impression that Diamanda is on more than nodding terms with the demon!
@marlowman hello inferior intelligence. If you communicate with the world that surrounds you at all,may I please ask you to stop your yacking, you're boring the shit out of us

I saw her at the sydney opera house for my 17th birthday (jan 2001) and i was amazed, petrified and bemused by her abilities. not for everyone, but truly unique.
Funny enough, as whacky as it sounds, it's probably the most faithful cover done of this song.
The CCR verion is brilliant, Nina Simone's very good (though it's deprived of all the craziness), Marilyn Manson's is brilliant, but this is the only that can rival with Screamin' Jay Hawkins!!!
@ MrTangent....yes I can...that is what packing tape is for or an 8" uncut serpent is for...seriously. I'm gay...and love lil Dia. But I'm also a lil hot native american and she sounds like my granny calling the deer with that "aaaaa'aaaaa''aaa'aa'aaa'aaahh". Smiles everyone.
I remember when I first hear of Diamanda. I pictured some African witch-woman something like Storm from the X-men, born in a nation sack, steeped in acid, soaked in the blood of her very last lover...somehow, finding out that she's a rather small Greek woman hasn't diminished her visceral, mythical appeal...
@madsketcher Dax Riggs had the 'Ronnie Van Zandt' thing going, too, made you think 'no way that big of a voice could come out of that small a man'. Just the contrast...
FYI my right hand man is the 5'2" dynamo otherwise known as Rick the Juggler, type in "Venice Knife Juggler" for some probably awful tourist footage. We make quite the pair, he likes to joke that we're brothers - guess which one momma fed?
@bigbronzespider Really? Why??? I've always loved Nina H, but I'm not too keen to hear her religious speeches! And I don't know why, but I've never heard about the amazing Diamanda until I found her here on youtube a few weeks ago!
@CatMSFat Nina Hagen was part of a whack-job group of moron "activists" who claimed HIV did not cause AIDS. In 1999/2000 Diamanda posted an open letter on her website and tore Nina Hagen up one side and down the other.
@whokilledzekeiddon You are complete moron. You are not funny. You have just insulted someone with more talent than most musicians alive. Not only does she have 6 plus octaves to spare vocally and virtuosic piano ability but she is a musical genius. You can't replicate her at her worst. So why don't you take your elbow, your cat, your stupid nonsense and jump off a cliff. Fuck off asshole.
Hang on - "Not only does she have 6 plus octaves..."
I won't debate whether she's good or not. You like her and that's cool. I don't, but as you so tastefully put it maybe I should keep that to myself.
