It was a bird. I am 100% positive! If you have video editing software you have options to play this in very very slow motion. Right after the "object" passes Nelsons head you can clearly see the outline of a birds wings and head. It was probably a sparrow or barn swallow flying up into the rafters to get to its nest. Case closed!

What would cause my kohler to burn oil other than rings and head gasket? Do they have valve stem seals?

@The Polarisdog They have no seals, the gases and oil from the base have a vent before the guides so theres no pressure to leak oil but if your ring are bad you will have blow by which compresses the base and will leak all over the tiniest hole so go ahead and swap out the rings ,even the oil ring can let to much oil come up to the compression ring and make it smoke .

"Another rod end cap on a mis-matched rod" Hmm. May not be the case. If they are the same parts #, it will bolt right up. Real issue here is how much wear difference there is between the connecting rod and the rod end cap W / the good oil dipper.  But we are not in rocket science here. If it bolts up great and no sloppy play with the crank you have a great engine.

Come on now. You can't use another rod end cap on a mis-matched rod without resizing the rod and cap, and re-machining the surfaces. It'll work, but not for very long. It'll ruin the crankshaft or the rod will come apart.
