Yep, more or less. The game's core gameplay is based on Gradius' mechanics (it's not named "Parodius" for nothing :p ), but with some of Twinbee's game mechanics thrown in the mix.

And it's an awesome game indeed, I recommend it highly. ;)

Be careful with Parodius Portable, I've seen at least one French review which panned this game for being a maniability disaster, due to the PSP's clunky D-Pad. Granted, most reviews in English and French give this game a good note (on average 8/10), but...

And, correct me if I'm wrong, but PSP games aren't region-locked, right ? Because then, your US console will be more than enough.

Nope, PSP isn't region locked, but UMD movies, yes they are , and even if the D-Pad is awkward on a PSP, i still want it. You made me want to play this fabulous looking title as wel las it's sequels and predecesors :3

Clunky D pad? Sony has been touted as having the best D pads of this generation. Its been a staple in all their controllers since the PS1, because its solid and everyone has loved it since day one.

The PSP itself is region-free but the games still have region coding with them.

Totally agreed. This boss, as well as the cat train of Stage 6 in this game, are some of the weirdest bosses I've ever seen in a game :p
