  • Video produced by the Rev. Ivan Stang of the Church of the SubGenius. Praise "Bob"!

  • Never mind about that comment I made. I already found a better version at VideoSift.

  • some powerful drugs there ..... WOW!

  • It's AWESOME!! I have been looking all over for this!

  • I don't enjoy this as much, but not bad.

  • I'm a bit biased as Devo fan, but this is a really fucking good cover. The video is batshit crazy though.

  • brilliant video--i always felt that "shout" was an underrated album.

  • I AM!

  • high quality vob files is available on the net ... try google and read my lips "Download Music Videos in High Quality" .. ok ? ;)

  • My comment mutated! :-o

Now it's multiplying itself! Run for the hills!

  • I HAVE!!!!

  • It's not the record label. The Jimi Hendrix estate gets more uptight all the time. They don't want Jimi's songs associated with anything drug-related, or weird in anyway. Because of course, Jimi Hendrix never did drugs and was completely normal and G rated in every way.

  • WOW!! I'm surprised you got this on youtube.. with the people who are handling the "Jimi Hendrix" estate, try not to let this video see the light of day. They were upset with the Jimi Hendrix Look-a'like coming out of the coffin.

  • I'M TRIPPING BALLS

  • Wow! I was sure a certain entertainment conglomerate, who shall remain nameless, but rhymes with "Horner Smothers" had eradicated every last trace of this video from the face of the earth! XD They removed it from the DVD pressing of "The Complete Truth About De-Evolution", but were dumb enough to leave its name in the credits and simply drew a line through it. Which did nothing but make fans like me VERY curious about this mysterious forbidden video! ;) You have done a great service to Spudkind!

  • Without a doubt, the single most bizarre video ever made. I try to explain it to people, and don't even know where to start . . . .Let us hope that it never again leaves YouTube!

  • Holy shit! I thought all copies of this had been destroyed! XD A certain record company, who shall not be named, but rhymes with "Corner Druthers", was less than pleased with our intrepid spuds over their interpretation of Hendrix's classic. The song can still be found, but the video had all but vanished--having been edited out of the DVD release of "The Complete Truth About De-evolution". In short: You are my hero, Nerf-Swallower!

In short--you are a hero: O "Swallower of Nerf Balls"

  • @3:05

Well I'll be damned. They predicted the breakthrough of anime in the western world back in the 80's.

  • @EyeoftheU Astroboy. Kimba. Marine Boy. Speed Racer. Sixties. Duh.

  • Thanks for bringing back one of the memories of my youth. I remember when this video was first shown on MTV. This video is trippy and hilarious.

  • Thanks for uploading this!!!

  • Devo's "R U Xperienced" video was literally unfindable!! I could watch it on youtube just once, maybe one year ago, then it suddenly disappeared...

Thanks for uploading, although the quality is not the best, I really appreciate! I LOVE this song/video! It warps me back to the 80's, when I used to breakdance on Kraftwerk and Devo!!

  • @Booji90 I still have my copy of the Laser Disc as well. The DVD didn't have this.

  • @mutato192 I thought every copy of this video had been destroyed by a record company that shall remain nameless, but rhymes with "Horner Smothers" ;) The DVD didn't even properly edit it out--they just removed the video, and drew a line through it's title in the credits! Making folks like me mighty curiousXD! You have done a great service to all Spud-kind, O Swallower of Nerf Balls! ^_^

  • This video is the one reason I will NEVER get rid of my Laserdisc player!

  • Not necessarily beautiful, but MUTATED!

  • Is that a cameraman at 1.30 to the right? Great song and video!

  • and AL TV is, and always will be one of the reasons "Weird Al" Yankovic will continue to be so awesome.

  • Mark on that Honda Scooter.. I remember the Commercial

  • Somewhere in my garage I still have a VHS tape of MTV world premiering this vid.

  • lol I commented to myself

  • I swear there used to be a better version on YouTube that got removed due to copyright violations, or what not.

  • @WilliamC24 Yupperz there was.

  • I still have the Devo laserdisc with this video on it..... :)

  • And the "point" of this is........?

  • Comment removed

  • Devo's videos were always saying "something" - however smug, preachy, irreverent, but something, especially, since they were all directed by Gerry Casale. What was this one saying?

  • @wizenhiemr Death of peace and the whole movement that came with it in that era. Particularly because the kids of the new generation tossed the peace sign not knowing what it is. You know though, they left their video's so open to question sometimes that I feel comfortable thinking nonsense about them sometimes.

  • Sometimes a coherent cover is better than the "artistic" original..

  • I really have to smoke something and watch this again.

  • greatest.... video... E V E R...

  • Great cover. However I can understand how the Hendrix estate got upset with Devo's concept of the track. For pete's sake....they have a dead Hendrix coming out of a casket on stage!

  • It's a flyin' saucer,Goodbye.

  • thanks for posting this! :D

  • i got high just watching this its awesome....bob

  • It's a superb song and video, and it's a darn shame it's so hard to find.

    Thanks for posting this!

  • Never thought I'd see this. Probably my first and last. The only reason it's not gone is because the video isn't titled with the song name. Pitty the Hendrix family have such a problem with this video being used on any DEVO DVDs.

  • Devo did some of the best covers EVER. This one is my favorite. It's funny how mad people got about the way they covered tunes.

  • The little blonde girl is Bob Mothersbaughs daughter I think.

  • @elderberry9 Sorry about the Comment removed thing. In fact, both of the kids are also seen on the Shout album cover.

  • The last decent devo video IMO, Great video!

  • I was overseas when this came out, heard it was banned on MTV because the Hendrix Estate wasn't pleased with it.

  • Heh, not only do I remember this video, I remember the ALtv this came from!

  • Thanks for posting, I had the same thought when I saw this video for the first time!

  • still fresh and relevant can't say that about

what passes for music and dare i say talent? today.

thanks for posting this timeless art

  • Thanks for posting this video! Excellent cover by a group who are way ahead of their time. Reminds me of my college daze watching TV69 in Gainesville in the mid 80s. "Beautiful mutants I can hear in the distance--I think they are calling our names."

  • To bad the audio is not the best because this is a pretty good cover.

  • @57goldtoplespaul There used to be a better quality version of this video, but it was taken down due to copyright shit. If I remember correctly.

  • DEvo Rocks!!!!

  • Samus Aran inspiration?

  • DEVO, always ahead of their time, even when mining the past....

AS for the licensing problems, I would guess it came down to the one scene, I would bet. If they could dig up the old footage and edit that scene out, replacing it with other shots....

  • it sucks that they weren't allowed to have this on dvd because of licensing bs

  • dude Al TV!! Wierd Al is definetly a fan :D

  • Live on you Beautiful Mutants.

  • toil is stupid

  • this album and cover was terrible.....cool video though

  • @LonelyAtTheTop79 I'm going to murder you.

  • This video was out when I was about 3 or 4. So old school. Thanks for posting. This isn't their best remake, but some of their songs are undeniable groove.

  • I remember this well in the 80's.

  • Geez, it's been a while since I saw this awesome video. Mr. Hendrix would've been quite proud of this unique cover.

Seeing this video really took me back, I used to watch it all the time on VH1 5 years ago, it reminds of my early high school days, a real blast from the past. Good times!

  • Jimi says please HD this clip!

  • @wholicrap Agreed

  • Jimi would have liked this. He was an intelligent artist with a sense of humor, and would have seen this deconstruction for what it was -- a comment about things falling apart.

  • omg this is back on youtube finally!!! hooray!!! This is one of my favorite Devo videos and it's very hard to find! Not on any vhs or dvd

  • @JohnnyLovely2 Agree, the Hendrix estate was not happy with this cover and had sued Devo over it some years back. Love the video too

  • I wonder what Jimi would think of this? First time i saw the video I was blown away. I like the symbolism to the kids throwing away the peace sign.

  • @DonFormica de la Soul found this sign a few years later !

  • @chucku00 I thought the same thing!

  • This video is great. Devo was experimenting with the art of making videos. Something few artists did back then.

  • este video es genial, lástima que la calidad video/audio no sea la mejor. Es el cover más original que he escuchado y visto en mi vida

  • @reinofshadows Hendrix's stuff is way more corporate than Devo bro.

  • Simplesmente, um CRÁSSICO.

  • the boys from akron did this well

  • Greatest cover ever!

  • Thanks for posting - great video - been MIA too long!

  • holy smokes...i mean wow that just blew my damn mind.
