No the installs are just to put data onto the system so that its not readin from the disk 100% of the time allowing for the system to remain as quiet as possible and to cause less scratches to the disk. Ive played Fallout 3 on my PS3 for over 30 hours and there isnt a single scratch on it. Thats because the PS3 doesnt read it as much and it "sucks" the disks in instead of some stupid disk tray.
