I wouldn't mind jetting off to Kenya for nyama, tusker and a day at the Mara to see the animals, a weekend in Ghana or a moment in Morocco. The whole continent can benefit. Time for reduced airfares from World Cup venues to the rest of Africa. Africa still has a lot to offer the world.
Of course not. Most of the financial benefit will go in the pockets of those greedy white devils that still live in South Africa. The blacks wont see a penny.
No it won't. Or not hugely at least. SA already hosted the Rugby World Cup, Cricket World Cup etc. Let us be honest, how much did that really benefit the rest of Africa?
That is very true Zaky. It is much more popular. However, it still is unlikely that most other African countries will benefit from the World Cup in SA. Maybe, Namibia, Botswana and Mosambique will see a little increase in tourism and that is it.
It is unlikely that e.g. Ghana or Nigeria which is more noth will experience any benefit at all.
Agreed. It will take more than a sporting competition to help lift the mess Africa is in now. On the other hand, I think this competition will boost the moral of many black African people if the African countries participating in it do well.
I don't see how the World Cup held in S. Africa will benefit anywhere outside of that country. A sporting championship has the potential to bring in tourists' money and maybe shine a little media attention on what is going on. Perhaps this will help a little, but it is insubstantial relative to the true problems of corruption, economic mismanagement, and ethnic conflicts that plague countries such as DRC, Zimbabwe, and Sudan.
