After you free the Uparupa, you can return to the Carnival and tell that guy that you won't give him anything at all. He will get angry and turn into a monster. Then all you have to do is defeat him, and the Grassman is free.
I don't know. I'm not sure if it matters, but I think some others just run away without being defeated. I could always check on it or something. I just chose it because it was suggested.
Hold B to run, it makes catching it easier.
After I fought mine... It didn't give me an option to free it or steal it... It just disappeared... What the hell??
