  • I dream one day of playing this song

  • This has to be one of my favorite concert band songs, I hope to be able to play it again and redeem my crappy performance of it one day!

  • Brought tears to my eyes...simply amazing. I moves me to see and hear music performed in this fashion with no vocals to distract from the performance.

  • what a wasted cymbal crash at the end. they should of placed it in 6:28ish instead and it should of been loud and dramatic, not controlled.

  • i loved the fuge :s especialy because ima tuba player.

  • wow.. i searched this after playing it at a band camp, and i got to say this is amazeing. i had to play the tuba part comeing out of 8th grade and i played it semi ok, but they played it superbly. lol

  • Wow, incredible

  • gosh I have played this in highschool and they take it 40 clicks slower just about. Then in All-District its even slower x.x As a trumpet player I say take it at its originial tempo like this video, but then again you have those extreme woodwinds runs

  • You can tell that Palmetto practicied hard on this because everyone is very in tune and in tempo!

  • Very well played, and at an aggressive tempo!

  • in the phrase that ends at 1:25, the trumpet note is a high (concert) B-flat in the original music, which is what they are playing here. There is also the same note in the piccolo part. I hear both instruments playing it. In fact, here it sounds like the piccolo holds the note slightly longer than the trumpet.

  • ...

  • I am a trumpet player and could not be as good as these guys but did notice a non unison part at 3:52 . Musicians' ears i guess. Very good performance

  • Sax part at 2:42 is so badass

  • is that a high trumpet note at 1:25

  • @MrRose2012 sounds like a flute/piccolo

  • @MrCardking i have to disagree

  • @MrRose2012 Lead Trumpet has a high concert b flat but I heard the picc player hold over...

  • the band is good, but the arragement shows NOT enough respect to the original hymn

  • I have played this before, and it is not an easy piece for a french horn player (me being one). This is an amazing feat for 8 french hornists to be able to play those partial jumps at this tempo. Bravo x 10!

  • I'm a percussionist. My school played this in our Symphonic band last year. Anyways, I really really REALLY wish they had a vibe player.

  • sooooo good

  • is this a professional ensemble

  • Performend this in suffolk NY high school all county. Fabulous piece. Sounds amazing

  • @islanders94 me too, good times

  • @crazyhippo4893 where you in my all county group?

  • Fanfare overture definitely mixes it up!!

  • Oh dear, I hope we're not playing it this fast in band haha...I really like this song though it's fantastic...

  • no GO PERCUSSION!!! I just wished they had a vibraphone player. But overall this was great takes me back to college.

  • Takes me back to senior year of high school. We played this in my last band concert.

God bless our Navy men and women and all of their comrades in the other services!

  • is it harder playing trumpet with a thick mustache?

  • Another comment, Claude T. Smith is an underrated composer.

  • didnt sound anything like eternal father strong to save :(

  • @jared71322 you obviously didn't listen to the whole thing. the hymn part starts at 4:12.

  • timpani needs to be louder on those rolls! its FF MAN!

  • @noodleface2012 when my school played this for band, i rolled the crap out of that drum towards the end =)

  • I wish I had not got kicked out of band in high school for smoking a cigarette at a football game.

  • i love wat the trumpet plays at 3:20

  • the opening felt rushed to me

  • @tsbuoy i checked the score and it said 100bpm. they are actually playing it at full tempo based off the score

  • @Nacho242000 Perhaps this is insolence on my part, but my view on tempo markings has mostly been to ignore them when my musical instincts tell me to. In the case of this piece, it sounds like it's moving too fast. Of course, if your musical instincts tell you that it isn't too fast, by all means listen to them and ignore me. The whole point of live performance is that you get to hear someone express themself through interpretation.

  • I played the 4th horn for this in the SCRMC honor band ....the 4th horn part during the chorale is insane

  • respect for being able to play that i've been playing only for a year and to hear this just makes you want to get better

  • it really is low, i am playing it on my bass clarinet to help the horn.

  • We played this in Disrict v honor band in alabama. I absolutely love the trumpet part where they have the 16th notes.

  • we are going to play this in my high school band!

  • OMG....those are amazing french horns...wow, lol

  • starts at 0:20

  • I think this song is so awesome. Go Trumpets and Flutes.

Also French horn soloist, Flute and Sax soloist's to.

  • Nice recording! I hadn't played this piece in quite a while, and then suddenly there I was last Saturday sight reading it in concert after a number of years lol It's a great arrangement! Definitely the kind of thing to push a group, played the 1'st horn part and solo. :)

  • amazing trumpets and frenchhorns

  • When I listen to the french horn solo, I keep thinking of our first chair french horn player. He sounds just like this one. He is really good. He's crazy, practices for 2 hours each day. Sounds like he is in college. I am glad we have this song. Iove listening to him play it in band.

THIS CONCERT WAS AMASING. GOOD JOB. GO TRUMPETS AND FLUTES.

  • Our high school wind ensemble is playing this (yay!) awesome piece, any french horn or trumpet who can play this well is an excellent player. this performance was awesome!!!!!!!!!

  • simply BLOWN AWAY~~!! what a captivating performance. (everyone rises and applauses)

  • Outstanding! The fast tempo performance is incredibly impressive. Clean articulation. Contrary to other comments posted, I think the French horn performance is outstanding-- you have 8 horns playing the fanfare in unison, a task very difficult to pull off cleanly, but done very well in this performance.

  • @Lorenzo8D The French horn section is very strong!

  • great job saxes!!!!!

  • thanks. I was the bari player in this concert.

  • sigh...unlike most bands, the french horns are a little dirty. but over all a realy good performance. hear the United States Navy band perform this in 97 and so far best performance I've ever heard.

  • I would love to meet the first chair trumpet or french horn player

  • i would love to meet or just talk to first chair tuba...

  • were playing this in marching band its bad ass lol

  • this is so amazing. I want to meet the first chair french horn!!

  • oh my friggen god if only we could play this at our highschool! its amazing!!

  • Lovin' that Contra-alto Clarinet! This may be the best recording I've ever heard. It's VERY in tune :)

  • i love this song! u guys did real well on this! our band wuz gonna play for our trip to hawaii over at pearl harbor, but we ended up playing other songs!

  • My school went to regional festival with this song and got a superior! We definately didn't play it amazing as this though.

  • at 1:41 is it a bass clarinet or a contrabass clarinet?

  • its contra-alto clarinet

  • 2 of my teachers are in here !!

  • steele high school is playing this and i get the alto solo =]

  • This song is simply amazing. My favorite part is the insane sax lick. Favorite part is from 1:26 to 3:30

  • We're playing this this semester. 2:09 is my favorite part.

  • From 5:05 -6:00..wow...Go Navy!

  • My band teachers were in this. They play the clarinet and bariton

  • Congratulations on a great concert. Great job, Ryan!

  • Oh yay! I know these guys! Wonderful performance. --janet h.
