Also, the Mayans didnt believe in apocalypses. Their calender predicted that man kind will enter a new age of learning and make huge technological leaps in no time at all. The Mayan's did not have the same technology as we do, so I think their predictions have no solid evidence, it is based on a belief system. We have very smart scientists who I am sure can check in with the natural world and see if the Earth is feeling under the weather, and they have their telescopes that can see if anything is hurdling towards us. After this "catastrophe" happens, I hope to see everyone at my place and we shall drink and be merry =)
Sorry, passed *down* to us. In terms of what I said about the animals, they live very peacefully; there really is a natural cycle. We humans are scaring ourselves into believing that the worst is going to happen. It's like we have this wierd obsession with freaking ourselves out. Sure we can predict things, but they are simply predictions, and then if we become to stuck to that idea, it becomes real and depending on the circumstances that sometimes is not very good.
Technically speaking we 'intelligent' beings created these beliefs for ourselves. Do you see any of the Giraffes praying to their great Giraffe God, or the Mice creating a Mouse Calender that will predict the end of the world? If humanity had not created so many belief systems we wouldn't have to worry about any of this. Really, we have just created a vicious cycle for ourselves. We become faithful to all the tales that have been passed own to us, taking them to heart.
