Thanks a lot for this, reminded me of how insightful and fascinating a commentator James Hunt was. And brutally honest, especially about "unclever" Rene Arnoux.

As for the technical probs...it was 1984. That's what telly was LIKE in 1984 :)

I wish the sound was working for this...I remember James Hunt openly suggesting that the decision to stop the race was"very French" and done at that specific time to protect Prost from what was going to be an embarassing defeat.

bellof wasn't in the podium cause he broke engine at 31st laps.. 6 mounth later tyrrell was cancelled by the championship table of 84...

The Tyrrell team's results were erased later in the season due to weight infringements - could that be the reason why bellof was not on the podium?

Bit confused by the end - where is 3rd placed Bellof for the podium? Were the FIA messing up their timings/positions back then, too? No surprise.

Bellof, of course, and Tyrell were later in the season disqualified anyway.

Don't think so - the Tyrrells were disqualified from all the races in 1984 much later in the season, they were still thought to be legit at the time of this race. I've no idea why he's not there

You're right the Tyrrells weren't DQ'ed at the '84 Monaco GP. I think Bellof received some kind of penalty because he "finished" 6th.

For the public Senna was the sentimental winner, Ickx was fined with 5 years of suspension for stop these race, when Senna was approaching -with the 7th race team, Toleman- making the fastest time in this race. For put the Senna fastest time in rain in perspective, 1m 54.334 only in Michael Schumacher in 1997 did 1m 53.315s , with Ferrari in rain. Senna, was a genius, no doubt.

Because Tyrell cheated and the whole team was disqualified for the season,so we see that Schum and Benetton and Ferrari weren' the only cheaters.
