  • After seeing your videos you have motivated me to continue work on my 1930 chevrolet sedan. My seat's look similar to what your working with. Springs are still good, but everything else is falling apart. what other material can I used if the brown patatoe sack looking material is shoot. I see you re-used yours. Also were can I find material for my seat's?

    EXCELLENT WORK

  • @TheWicho46 We typically use vinyl when we recover seats in house. We have tons of it and it works well as a moisture barrier and extra support for the springs. That's all the burlap was for originally: to spread the foam's foot-print out on the springs so it didn't eat right through.

  • where can I buy new foam? my 92 toyota truck bench seat is worn out so I need to rebuilt it, thanks

  • @viberura You can purchase our rear seat foam (BUN-REAR), shown in this tech-tip video, through any of our authorized retailers. Please visit our website and click on "Dealer List" in the upper right-hand corner to search them by make/model or by zip code.

  • when applying the vinyl to a car door, is it best to spray the adhesive onto the material, wait for it to become tacky then use a heat gun to stretch the vinyl into place, or use the heat gun first, then the adhesive?

  • @electonixG All of our panels are dielectrically sealed, so we do not have experience in hand-making door panels. You would be best served to speak with an upholstery shop about a one-off project like that.

  • This video, and several of your others, are terrific! Though I was really disappointed when I visited your site and found that you don't offer the pre-sewn seat covers for my car (1971 Ford Maverick 2dr). ARG! I would have ordered in a heartbeat. The seats have great bones, but the fabric is shot.

  • @LandiLisa Sorry, but we have stayed away from the Ford market for several reasons. Because of that I'm not an expert on who manufactures Maverick parts, but there's bound to be someone out there. Good luck with your restoration!

  • Awesome video, why did you not use vinyl for the back rest as you did for the bottum? I will be doing my 62 Biscayne interior and was debating about what to use for replacing the old cotton and burlap. I ordered your foam for the seat, should I still use the vinyl for the bottum ? then what for the top? Cotton again with the foam?.

  • @StormedNorm We use vinyl on the bottom for a little extra support and structural integrity for the portion of the seat that takes the most abuse (at least in our case). If you would like to use new cotton batting on the back, or vinyl, or whatever you have laying around, it certainly cannot hurt your restoration. Rear seats typically don't get anywhere near the use that front seats do.

  • can u buy the frabric already cut and stich so all u have to do is wrap it?

  • @DjDano500 Can you please clarify? We manufacture upholstery patterned and assembled as original, meaning we reverse engineer a seat cover GM or Mopar made and put together reproductions the same way they did. If you wish to purchase a seat cover please visit our site to locate an authorized retailer. The cover you receive will be ready to install over your frame, although we always recommend you purchase new foam, as well.

  • where can i order one of those helper boxes that appear on 3:38?

j/k you guys do nice work.

  • how thick is the foam you are using?

  • @714638 The rear seat foam is about 2 inches thick. One sheet is suitable for padding either a cushion or a backrest, and it is sold as one piece. So if you're restoring the whole back seat set, you'll need two pieces.

  • @714638 Awesome video very helpful especially for a guy like me that doesn't know much about cars. Got a local contact for upholstery and old chevy parts. You guys ROCK!

  • Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

Your videos are instructional and easy to follow. Good video quality allows me to pause and examine the details of the install. You have made my project much easier to do.

  • I have a 71 rear bench frame that is low in the middle and bows up at the ends. is this normal? Can it be corrected?

  • @yodasnshit Usually rear seat frames are pretty level across the cushion, but not all are the same. Not knowing what model car you have we couldn't say for sure, but I'd recommend you contact a shop that specializes in your model. For example, if you have an Impala, you might try Hubbard's, a Chevelle, try Ausley's, or a Camaro check with Camaro Central. These retailers specialize in their models and KNOW everything about them, where as we know about upholstery rather than frames.

  • Ok I'm restoring a '68 Plymouth Valiant 100..I need to re-do the seats both are basic bench seats, does anyone know where I can get the vinyl to cover them..I want to sick with the stock-looking black with ridges. I've been shopping around and can't find what I'm looking for any help would be nice.

  • as one who has built thousands of seats @ Johnson Controls for GM....you sure make it awfully hard on the body. good lawdy at least do it on a table. but I cant give away trade secrets :)

  • @wmkitt Unfortunately we are constrained to work in the space we have. As a manufacturer the majority of our space is dedicated to producing upholstery and soft trim, so we have to work on larger seats on the floor of our pattern office. The equipment you see in the background is used to digitize original pieces of material from upholstery so we can reproduce them, exactly the same, every time, via computer aided cutting.

  • is the person that did the process a guy or a girl?

  • what type of foam is required or does it matter???

  • @PartsUnlimitedInc Just a question, i have the basic knowledge to get the foam vinyl and foam in. How do i go about measuring and sewing the cover? Any tips or useful sites on that? i just need to figure out how to sew it up. struggling hard with that. the rest seems simple. hog ring everything in place.

  • where would you order the foam and leather from?

  • @Ryanh00d We manufacture the upholstery in the original vinyl, but as with anything, leather may be had for a price. The foam is available from your local fabric shops sometimes, and will be available through us in cut rectangles shortly. Please call us at 800-342-0610 and we will help you find an authorized retailer.
