  • was this song written by Sly Stone? I grew up listening to the first few RHCP albums, uplift mofo was so good my mom even bought herself a copy. Hilell Slovek was such a genius too my God, what a bad ass guitar player....cheers

  • @djgeeter yes and the original is awesome too.

  • 1980's ?

  • Red Hot Chili Peppers rule, and I'm glad they aren't extermely popular ( with people my age atleast ). It feels more personal and special when I listen to them. I love these guys

    RIP Hillel <3

  • @Nolifeandaknife You'd have to pretty young then. RHCP are one of the most popular, mainstream rock groups in the history of music (but they certainly were not when this song was recorded and released).

  • i love scar tissue.....ive learnd so much .....lol

  • PEPPERS RULE

  • the kind a poisen that you really ah no

  • Very solid cover! Good production by Clinton.

  • OMG THIS IS THE BEST COVER IVE EVER HEARD! ITS SOOO GOOD! BASS IS ON POINT!!!

  • their best album, yet so underrated..

  • @iop223 I dunno brother, Uplift Mofo was pretty freakin amazing

  • WOW! One of my favorites Sly songs, and this cover is tremendous!

  • this song was so amazing during my break up haha i love this song

  • this is a cover of the Sly and the Family Stone one XD

  • This song fuckin rocks

  • We do a cover of this at our funk band. I love both bands. I'm bass player and I actually feel honoured to play this. PINK FL0YD!

  • ugh. cant get enuff of this... the perfect "fuck" song!

  • song is amazing

  • sly would be proud.

  • one of the best bass lines of all time

  • @ptran001 that's why there is an advertisement before it

  • the best Sly Stone cover

  • I everyone who hears this MUST get a Chili Peppers tattoo.

  • tattoos suck

  • lol im a tattoo aritist, and i must agree with you, i dont have a single one, but i know how to give em

  • Haha :P

  • thats funny its like me im really in to my health and i eat as healthy as i can but i work at a McDonalds

  • Small world. I have a McDonald's tattoo. Wanna guess where?

  • Hmmm - I wanna guess WHAT?

  • your quarter pounder?

  • @machinsky108 OK, machinsky, you win.

  • aallllllllllright

  • pretty damn good cover, i mean its not sly but its damn good.

  • George Clinton told them to you idiot... he produced the album. If George-FUCKING- Clinton tells you to cover sly you do.

  • The good old funky shit! Way better than the newer albums. (altho theyre decent) Nothing can beat mothersmilk album! (yes i know this is from freaky styley)

  • this is red hot chili peppers

    :D

  • Orely?

  • The original version by Sly is a classic, but I think RHCP did a really great job here. Also they made the song even more funkier than it already was.

  • No way in hell can RHCP be funkier than Sly. Sly is one of the architects of funk.

  • This sounds alot like "Taste the Pain"

  • Great cover of Sly and the family stone!

  • dude>? ur not a treu fan if u say these songs suck first of all this is a cover

  • But Freaky Styley is one of their first albums, Tell Me Baby, SIAT and Snow (Hey Oh) are the newest songs the've done.

I PERSONALLY LIKE THEIR SONGS IN GENERAL

  • im confused. if your saying that this song is from stadium arcadium your wrong. because its from freaky styley.

  • There are no words for how upsetting your mindless comment is.

  • hahahaha study up on your facts

  • @linesh92 You fucking idiot :L Those are the new songs of Rhcp, fucking research before doing fucking stupid comments like that:L

  • @linesh92 suck a dick faggot lol jk..... no really suck a dick and think about what u just said

  • George Clinton helped with this album

  • yep, he is the man

  • i had no idea they covered this song. i'm partial to the sly stone version, but rhcp did a pretty decent job with this. they definitely nailed the bass line, which for me is the most important part. they definitely know how to keep it funky.

  • you are so right, they know how to keep it funky for sure cause they were heavily influenced by funk. I love the bass line too, Flea plays it perfectly. Great cover.

  • I bet Flea plays the trumpet on this song .

  • yeah prolly does

  • Of course Sly's version is better, I'm the biggest chili's fan in AUS and I even know that, and who gives a shit about Anthony's voice, I'd like to see you guys sing better, stfu and enjoy life

  • Dear dumb, he has no extra "luck," that's a load of bs. There is no such thing, people just like kiedis. He obviously brings something to rhcp that fits with the sound of the band as well as also being a great lyricist.

  • the Ant Man is a great lyricist (ifuhave2ask) and companion and music goes deeper than ability homie. and although he didn't write all the chords and bass lines doesn't mean he had nothing to do with the sound or energy, or feeling of the music. and btw he CAN play guitar, just not at the same calibur as hillel or john. i'm sure you took a lot of heat for your opinion but it's cool, all that is is an opinion right? with that all out the way. RHCP is one of my fav and most inspirational bands/ppl

  • look its all good, you like shit or you dont, but if you have 2 ask, in my opinion while being one of their best songs has horrible lyrics( they make no sense) but watevs like you said there opinions right

  • lyrics aren't ALWAYS priority in music. like i said it's a technique of skat (mostly known in jazz) that sounds like a funk/jazz fusion to me, so given the style of music they're playing there it fits just fine. and while not all all the lyrics are relevant to eachother there are some bars that do go together. but...if you have to ask what the lyrics mean, you'll prolly never know. take from it what you want bro.

    peace.

  • if you have to ask is soooo money. and the lyrics are excellent

  • @themi90 bitches be trolling

  • both versions of this of song are great!

  • First time we heard this record, my uncle said they put THIS song (and lovin and touchin) on Freaky Styley, because there had to be at least one song that wasn't full blast punk funk rock / RHCP you know?

  • Love both Sly's and this version! I have to admit I heard this one first. This song has a special place in my heart from my younger years <3

  • great cover ... but Anthony is nothing compared to sly

  • when it comes to melodic singing, i agree completely, sly is fucking awesome. Keidis is more about the energy and rhythm.

In his autobiography he talks a lot about how uncomfortable he was singing at this point in his career.

He didn't really have to worry about it for most of their songs, but covers like this really stretched his limits

  • it isnt rhcp song? shit, this was my favourite. message over to you now... and when you see mme again

  • I think RHCP do a fab take-off on this song! I love both versions.. why not, since it's a funky-delightful feeling. I only wish there was video footage of this performance.

  • well yes, good job to rhcp, i wouldn't know about the original song if it wasn't for them

  • i agree

i like this version better but i think thats because i heard it first. slys versions still great

  • it s a SLY STONE song

  • HOw do you get a emo down from a tree?

    You cut the rope !!

    HAHAHAHA:D:DXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXDXD

  • HAHAHAHAHA

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • cut your self in your vain

  • emo kid

  • emo video!!!!

  • amaizing cover from an amaizing band

  • AMAZING you fucking retard

  • i have it!

  • this song is so badass. I love the rhcp version

  • what were the 4 albums hillel was on? i forgot the third one.

  • Listen to this when I'm driving to school every morning... It's so anti-stress!

  • RHCP my favorite band and one of the greatest ever

  • Love this cover sooo much, it's soo funky. Flea rocks!

  • Sa c'est une chansson que seul les vrais fans connaissent et qu'il faut savoir aprécier si on se dit fan car c'est bel et bien leur style musical de départ

    parsonnellement j'adore

et ce riff de basse est magnifique

Hillel R.I.P et vive John et Flea

  • sky and the family stone wrote this song

  • SLY and the family stone :p

  • rhcp 4 ever!

  • R.I.P. HILLEL have fun in heaven buddy :p

  • Hillel was such a badass mo fucka

    RIP buddy we love you

  • i enjoy this song.

  • Slovak is so different, he plays for the music. Most guitarist are like SOLO! But Slovak just... yeah. Really unselfish.

  • you said it. i respect guitarists who are willing to let the other musicians stand out when the stuff played sounds good

  • i just hope you dont look down upon john because i love him to death and he is super good at what he does

  • john and hillel are both awesome... love them both

  • The best album!

  • freaky style is the best album , whit license bssm

  • jus listened to original and saw all the arguments about which i better, so i expacted this to be unreal.sounds like he's in drag sly must av stoned him toomuch with the original

  • IMO, Freaky Styley is the best album RHCP ever made. Even better than Blood Sugar Sex Magik, although that was an awesome album too.

  • wat it is best album i thinck rhcp has all albums theeeeeeee BEST dud rhcp has the best varatin of music

i m sory my english sucks

  • Yes. It does.

  • I think BSSM is the best, then Mother's Milk, and then Freaky Stiley... the news albums are not so good like this ones

  • Yeah dude. Stadium Arcadium and Californication will never compare to anything from 91 and before.

  • their new stuff has a different style. i can't say it's worse than the old stuff, it just makes me like it in a different way. one thing's similar- it all gives off a feel-good vibe

  • yeah, their new stuff isn't really 'bad' or anything. it's just almost a completely different band from this era.

another thing that's similar... flea is a crazy badass bassist.

  • you said it exactly. i lvoe all the chilis albums, new stuff is different and great in a different way, they've just moved to different stuff. and its for different moods. atm i'm loving mothers milk uplift and freaky. next month i may be back on stadium and cali

  • also i think in his book anthony said that BSSM is the album that truely captures who the cili's are..and i think thats true...but i still love the old stuff..RIP Hillel..20 todayy..<33 RHCP for life<3333

  • chili's**ahh sorry i'm so tired..hahaand also this song is amazinggg...they did a great job

  • omg again its 20 years todayy..omg hahaha ....<333

  • Think so? I think it totally rocks! Freaky Styley is my favourite album of all time. Though Im not that much of a RHCP fan..

  • in stark comparison to the original. yes.

  • Wonderful cover

  • did u know that anthony actualy hated the first album they did cuz the producer mad the stuff softer so it could be played on the radio...i feal bad for them but i luv ther sutff anyways

  • whoa, are you saying the chilis don't have soul? listen to funky crime, like it matters that sly's black

  • I'm with ya bro. Chili's have a lot of soul, and they express themselves through their respective instruments better than most bands, if not all bands, which is what makes them so awesome.

If john is pissed, you will hear the meanest guitar tone, and he will make it scream. When he is happy, you can hear a bubbly guitar tone that is beautiful. It is just what music is about, selfexpression and displaying emotion, and making good music, being creative and original. Chili's have the "it" factor

  • yeah i agree. listen to carbro (im not 100% on spelling) on by the way. thats my happy song

  • its cabron

  • its cabron

  • cheers

  • love the horns and bass. probably the best combo for rhcp in a song

  • It's my second favorite RHCP song... So freakin awesome. I can find myself in this.

  • I agree beautiful song

    God thank u 4 RHCP:)

  • It's really good, no Sly, but still very good.

  • best song on freaky styley...in my opinion!!

    really funky...and i love that

but i like the new stuff by the chilis to

    best band on earth

  • thats why its called a cover, you raving gay.

all musicians, such as myself have to do covers to start, it helps to develop a style, obviously its NOTHING like the original, sly, A) was black, B) had soul...rhcp has talent, but not a funk/jazz style

  • Sorry, doesn't come close to Sly Stone!!!

  • good seng!!!! yes!!!

  • i love everything in this song.

  • god i love this song..

  • It's Hillel Playing.

  • I love this song its so amazing, the guitar part is just like one huge funky solo, is this john or hillel

  • Its Slovak

  • The Drummer was Cliff Martinez

  • Anthony sounds great in this song,Ilove it

  • fact! when this song was recorded by the chili peppers, it wasnt Frusciante or smith! it was slovak and the dude who drummed on the recording of the first album! idiot!

  • true, and that drummer guy is Jack Irons btw :p

  • Si quieres que me quede, estaré dando unas vueltecillas alrededor para estar disponible para verte.

  • opening bass line rocks

  • FUCKING SIC KASS SONG< MY FAVE

  • George Clinton produced Freaky Styley. There is no way that he would let them remake this funk classic unless it was done right..

    Nice Job!

  • cool thanks for posting

  • Nice nice nice, very nice..RHCP :D

  • also, "when you know that you're never number two, number one gonna be number one" fuck great line

  • I'm a massive fan of SLy AND the Chilis, Anthony is hardly tenchnically the greatest vocalist when compared to someone like sly, but every so often he surprises you by doing something as well as he does this

    imo

  • hear hear.

within the chili peppers he is not up to the same standard as flea, john or chad in their respective fields but he's MORE than adequate.

p.s. the chili peppers are not washed up now, they never have been and never will be (just a message for the haters out there)

  • OMG OMG OMG!!!! I llllooooveeeee this song and them

  • GREEEEEEEEEEEATTTTTTTT!!!!!!!

  • the best!

  • this was the height of kiedis' vocal career imo... at least with this style of music... he did this song perfectly... almost as perfectly as Make You Feel Better... although those lyrics are cheesy... overall, I like this song more than the Sly version, and I'm actually a sly fan...

  • i don't know, the bass line is pretty close to the original. sly still rules, but anthony did a pretty good job

  • thanks for uploading this song. About time someone did. =D

  • this is RHCP best work its more funky and has much better bass lines

  • agree, bass is really inspired, it made me start to play!!!

  • Hell Yeah!!!

  • Np;)
