In my area I haven't had a power outage/fluctuation in over 6 years. And when it did happen, it had a real reason, not random. But It's still good just in case.
hey i have a tripp light battery backup and it came with a usb for pc do u know what its for and how do i make it tell me how much battery is left thanks
The usb cord should be bundled with a software cd (if not go to tripp lite's website and download it for free). I'm not too familiar with their software, but mostly all of the major ups manufactures give you the option to adjust surge tolerance, disable the power outage beeper, check battery status, run time and some sort of auto shut off / auto save feature. I use mostly apc and cyberpower ups's, they all seem to have the same software features.
Yeah Battery Backups are wonderful. I own a 550VA OPTI-SAFE one and it came in handy a few weeks ago when our power went out for 30 minutes. It kept my DSL modem/router powered and let me use my laptop to stay in touch with friends. Great video of UPS's
Hmm, not sure where to start, there is so much information missing. You have not commented on the different technologies of UPS systems in the market nor the 9 differnent power problems that exist. The only things mentioned are a brand and a VA size. A larger the VA size does not necessarily mean a better UPS. The APC model you have shown is the bottom of the line and will only protect from power outages, sags and spikes or 3 of the 9 know power problems. Buy a technology, not a brand.
imho you don't need one on a home pc. as long as you have a cheap raid setup with mirrored drives then the chances of both them going wrong with a spike of power cut would be seriously unlucky.
they have their places on servers but for home use just get a power surge strip with power breaker on it and you are good to go. save the cost of the ups and the running cost. A 550VA will be costing his parents (if he lives at home) about $120 + extra dollars every 3 months trust me on that
APC is really expensive : (
