Four very talented musicians performing here and yet, they couldn't come close to the talent of the Beatles when they were in their early 20's. That's gotta tell you something,
Y is everyone complaining about Dave saying "dancing there" instead of "standing there"? It's music dammit! It's not the lyrics that matter. As long as the songs tune and meaning isn't changed then who cares. Plus, Dave matthews is waaaay cooler then ul ever be. I'm sure he knows what he's doing.
@poussyledzep yea if by reinvented it you mean blatantly stole it from countless African Americans in the south. Chuck Berry anyone? I love the Beatles like every other white person but you gotta know your history bud...its like when people say Columbus discovered America....he only discovered it for White people, plenty brown people already knew about it and lived there
@TreytheRockstar chuck berry made good music but the beatles are on a whole different level. you could be from jupiter and upon hearing beatles you know that you're hearing amazing music. using your analogy is like saying Jimi Hendrix stole chuck berry's music. no, hendrix' music was as different to chuck's as beatles were.
columbus invented america for the whole world apart from the natives! africans, asians, orientals knew nothing about it until the europeans took em there lol
@hekoka Columbus was ignorant and lost his way to Indian. That's why he called the First Nations people "Indians." He probably ran into the Tequesta people when he arrived by accident. True, Anglo Saxons who write history in this country give themselves much praise for what they accomplish but also exclude and alter the history other groups contribute.
@pachacutti you come across as unbelievably ignorant when you spew nonsense and label as "ignorant" a man who dare to take on the raging oceans and travel the world with primitive technology 600 years ago something to this day you will never accomplish. its easy for you to sit on your warm comfy seat and get your answers from google 600 years later!
anglo saxons are the reason why you replied to comment, why you drive a car, fly on a plane, wear nikes etc etc
@hekoka What you and pachacutti talking about? Wouldn't this be commentary more appropriate for a history video than a music video honoring the Beatles at the Grammys?
@TreytheRockstar I beg to differ, there would be no Beatles without Chuck Berry, Little Richard & Fats Domino. Those are the first individuals the Beatles said influenced them when they came to American and at the Ed Sulivan Show in 1964 there were others like Elvis Presley but Elvis was emulating Southern Black Church music and R&B. Hendrix wouldn't exist without his predecessors. American music would not exist without Black presence in this country. Columbus got lost on the way to India!!
@pachacutti you obviously didn't understand what I was saying because we're talking about the same thing, African slave songs became blues which became jazz, soul, and rock N roll
OK everyone...now go watch a video of THE BEATLES doing this song on Ed Sullivan more than 50 years ago with the tinny crap electronics that existed on TV then. The "BOYS" could blow anyone off the stage with vocals alone. Although Vince Gill did a good job, there's no excuse for how bad this is...except that It's the Grammys... the annual shitfest.
This is so good. I remember watching it and the hairs on my arm standing up. These guys flat out jam, and Pharrell pushes that racing beat out like there's no tomorrow. My favorite Beatles song to boot. Love this.
mingya....these guys were asked to play a tune....all different kinds of musicians....it's a tribute....they aren't beatles impersonators. and for the guy who asked who the first singer was, that's dave matthews. and i doubt your grandma sings better than him.the guy has more musical talent on the hair of his knuckles that your entire family tree clown.
Thats true what you are saying ( even the tree clown part ) . And really listening to it again I think its good. Reminds me of first time hearing strawrberry fields or helter skelter. Give it some time ey.
Wow, what a trip ! Thanks for posting. Vince Gill---so many talents--who knew he could pull off George Harrison leads ? Sting sounds great, Matthews still looks like he is grade school. And Pharrel--who knew was such a great drummer ?!!
This is how music shld be-not all the faggy emo rock or rap sheit.
Sting was the best one of the bunch... except for the high note.. Other than that thought it was not to great... It sounds like they didn't rehearse or something..
Whether you like it or not I don't think Matthews' lyric mishap was a mistake. He's known for interchanging lyrics.. You may not like that to be done with a beatles song, but it wasn't a mistake....
Sting was the best one. He's the only one who has my respect as well. His vocals were also the most polished. "I saw her dancing there..."? How could you get the lyrics wrong?!
Ellen is adorable-- great opener! The subsequent song only made me appreciate the Beatles more... although I liked the fact that they did bow afterwards. :)
EH I totally remember seeing this! "I saw her dancing there"? *Booooo* *Hiss* How dare you mess up a lyric when you're doing a Beatle trubute! That's just wrong..
I think the best part was the footage in the background..haha
That was bad. I've seen better tributes. I heard Pharell was laughing on the floor so hard because he cracked up at Sting's performance "as Paul McCartney"
