Is it any better now? I've had it for a long time, always with the intent of playing around with low poly modeling in it. I never get more than a few minutes in, and it crashes on something simple like using the cut tool to add a row of verts to a cylinder primitive.
I'm a modeling newbie. Maybe I shouldn't do that. I'd rather it tells me that instead of crashing though.
@bitterbug Same. The recent announcement of silo devs made it even more clear now: silo is dead. I suggest you to try another software that has now become a silo replacement in my toolset: VoidWorld
(link in description)
It's made by a nice guy named Istonia and it's updated very often based on user report and suggestions. Look for the latest pages for updates.
It's as easy as silo to learn and more feature packed and since it's in beta version so far it's free, try it to see if you like it.
I spent some time last night looking at Blender vids and I think that will be my replacement. The UI is kind of insane at first, but once you get past the non-intuitiveness of it, it's pretty nice.
There are great tutorials on here by @irakrakow and BlendTuts has some on Vimeo too. Back to having fun!
No, exactly the same as 2.1 ... It's funny everyone say it's stable when only 10 lines of code have been changed between the two version... As if it would fix the dozen of critical bug still in 2.2 rc...
Ok, agree, there is stability issue, but no one app is totaly stable, and Silo is more stable then other (more stable then Modo or Hexagon, in my experience). So, is true, 2.2 is not totally stable, but is more stable then 2.1
@minchiozzo@minchiozzo > Well if more stable you mean crashing at 25 minutes instead of 23, yes it's less crashy... But don't come here saying it's stable, because you insinuate I'm a liar, and silo's stability is a myth since v2.0....
And yeah, no app is crash free, but you (silo's developper), don't claim maturity when the experience is as fun as cutting your legs with a rusty knife...
Well, lets say modeling wise, silo does what 3ds does in 60% less time with more intuitive control and for 1/19 the price :)
But to be honest it is so buggy that these advantages doesn't compensate anymore for me. I'm looking at voidworld current dev beta, looks very promising, future silo killer (and more) if you ask me.
No, never tried it. I'm using maya 2009 with a few scripts that emulate the silo feeling. Anyway i think you should wait for blender 2.5 if you want a cheap (free) nice app. I'm waiting they introduce the bmesh (ngons capabilities) thing and the save custom hotkey function.

@TheBeatK Never insinuate you are a liar my friend :) In your video you talk about 2.1, now after sometime, 2.2 release is more stable.

What's so good about this as opposed to say 3ds Max?

@leogold2003
Which *may* fix some bugs, but i could still do this kind of video in about the same time, really it doesn't change my view on the subject.

Silo is the best modelling software for me, I agree it is not so stable as I would, but I love it...

I'm having the exact same problem with this fucking thing. Absolutely frustrating because I genuinely love the program.
