if you are smart biitch then you would noticed the other commentors saying that this video provides false information and I'm not the only one...Khaus pim tuag!
The information about the hood/thiv haus is also wrong. This is upsetting to hear such false information. Black or red is for neej txwv txhooj neej txwv zeej...buddist shamanism may wear red or black too. It's not as black or white as you made it sound.
Hmong do not see shamanism/kev neeb kev yaig as a religion. You are wrong. It is a healing method only. We do not worship nor see a God in shamanism. Each clan may have their own kev dab kev quag which is the religious pratice. We view God as Lub Ntuj, but shamanism is only a healing method. I'm disappointed you did not do your homework before running this video.
Um....some of her information is incorrect...im a shaman and have many friends that are shamans...and lets just say...dont take everything in this video seriously.
@trueblueaddictor I know I'm not fake. I ain't needa research anything, Hmong Shamen's arent even documented. No one really know what it is. Ruam tuags.
this documentary is misleading. a lot of the information is incorrect. needs to do more research about shaman before sharing it with the world, especially one that doesn't know about shaman.
Ummm I thought Hmong worship ancestor and belief in animism. Shaman is a healer and it plays a great part of Hmong healing ritual. Other then that the information is cleared.
@Tor7men7ted2 we hmong have many sub religions such as,xwm kab, nyuj dab,hu plig, ancester worship, all these are just sub religions(rituals) but our main religion is shamanism, just like budhism or christian.a shaman can do ritual healing to people other than his own family or clan.
@3:05, a shaman journey is dangerous, as far as i know. i was told that the journey into the spiritual realm and back is treacherous, not unlike the qhuab ke (showing the way) ritual. there was a comparatively recent split in shaman technique (neeb dai taw) because some of them could not hide their footprints correctly. my father's techniques follow the vue (vwj) clan, although we are vang (vaj) clan, and it is neeb dai taw.

from what i have observed, and to my knowledge, hmong shamans do not use any substance to induce their altered state of consciousness. a lot of other shamans, like native americans and elsewhere in asia, do use substance for altered states of consciousness. today there are many types of shamans, differing by many dimensions including clothing, songs, sacrifices, technique, etc... the most genuine/powerful shaman is the one that the original siv yis has "selected."
From what I understand there are many type of shaman just like there are doctors who specialize in different field of expertise. Also it seem that just because you happen to be a shaman does not mean that you can just help another to become a shaman. It appears that in most cast the teacher must be at least the same level or higher in order for them to bridge/help fully awaken the spirit joining within the newbie shaman.
To become a shaman is not like going to a session and trying to learn. You have to be choosen to become a shaman, first you encounter a sickness that makes you very ill, it will not get better no matter what you do. Then a shaman close to your family comes and try to guide the ill person into the world of shamanism and tries to get him or her to incorporate and work with his souls and spirits so that they can become one. You can only be choosen by the ancestors, not learn it.
A real txiv neeb does healing ceremonies for free because their duty is to heal and keep peb Hmong alive. The bench is the pegasus that the txiv neeb uses to travel through the spirit world. The finger bells are more important than you think, they are the authenticity and proof of the txiv neeb to his neeb spirits that he calls for their aid and that when he goes into trance, if those bells do not come off his fingers, they must not stop in their search for the lost soul.
Hello, my name is Andrew and the shaman is not a religious figure who the Hmong people worship like other religious figures of the world. The txiv neeb is only a person who came down to Earth with a calling from our Vang Shao Shee Yee as a contract to heal peb moob. Txiv neeb is a Hmong doctor who diagnose through the spiritual world that our lost soul travel to.
More about shaman, negotiating with the dead means dealing both hand, bad and good. This is why the black hood shaman are no more, not that all of them do this, but most of them do it for a fee and this is wrong. A true servant ask for no fee and does it not for a reward, but because he/she has a good/great heart. And that only heavens know, this is why he/she has the gift. The bench or horse is a great tool for some purpose. The jingle bells are great tools too but has its limit.
Yes very true that a real txiv neeb does healing ceremonies for free because their duty is to heal and keep peb Hmong alive. The bench is the pegasus that the txiv neeb uses to travel through the spirit world. Actually i disagree with you. There is no buddha shaman, my father wears a black hood, but he still sacrafice animal. Too make it clear. THE IS NO BUDDHA SHAMAN, but thanks for this video, it helps peeps to knwo our religion. A REAL Hmong shaman is a shaman who practices his spiritual performance with a long table, he ha sno limit when negotiating with the dead, other shaman are limited in negotiating with the dead.
There is hmong buddha shaman in this generation. I am one. Actually it is a mixture of many different type of spirits. Some have buddha spirits, some have hmong king and queeen spirits. Some having spirits that can heal without ua neej. They have these spirit because they've done a lot of good things in past life so god gave it to them. I don't use animal because animal has not done wrong in this world to take the place of a person. This will be the last generation of black hood shaman...
Good people with very important powerful spirits are not something to make fun of because when they do something it really works because it comes from the heart and heaven. I don't charge for my service, It is up to the kindness of the person to donate however he/she wants. The spirit world is moving at a very past pace at this time as the year 2012 is closing in causing alot of fluaction in the physical world.
How many Teachers or Aiscas do u have? I know that there are three only in the US. U say u are one, do u know about the one in California. He is the first of ur kind to come. 1 of his teacher was destine to be the Dali Lama,1 other is the teachers of all the dragon teachers that protects U and the 1 that has the same power as U do. witch sate r U in? My teachers dose it for free. and dose not even except donation. He say if people want to donate for them to give it to the church or to a temple.
Zmanthao, do u no ur Native American Aiscas name? If u do what is his name? U should try riding the horse if you haven't done it yet. It will save you a lot of your energy. on the other hand have u been to all the places up there? you need to talk to an elder shaman knows all the realm because if u haven't check it out there are certain things that u may not no about and how to help.
kind of weird...u said buddah shaman wears a black cloth on the face...yea dats true but it also says dat they dont do sacrafice..well from my past experience, my relatives n my dad do do sacrafice...unless it changed in da past years...
