@chillaxer1993 They do, correct me car experts (im a nub) but i believe 200hp is the hp at the crank, some power is lost before it makes it to the wheels so dyno numbers are usually lower than the stated hp of your car
@chillaxer1993 those are GTI rims, my 06 GLI came with the same ones. Just depends on where/who you get the car from. They are aftermarket either way.
I took a GTI out the other day and was chucking it around some turns. It is so quiet that you cant really hear the engine and know when to shift. My only gripe is that my jetta 2.5 is louder than the 2.0
@bearingbreaker92 My wife has a 2007 GLI and I took out a 2008 GTI and I don't know what the deal was but the GLI would of Smoked the GTI and the GLI was a auto DSG vs a 6spd In a gti.
I'm sure of it. It's common to lose a bit of low end torque when you install a less restrictive intake. It's a trade off for the top end. I don't claim to be an expert though. If the car was chipped it might have seen more of a gain from the intake.
must have been a cold air then. It's the same thing on my corolla. I lost low end below like 3500, but made more peak torque and much more peak horsepower. So in essence you actually gain more torque lol. Weird how that works.
I think vw has some nice car designs but I would never own one. The cost factors are just tooo high but if you have a nice budget then power to you. I will stick to my jap crap honda's.
Not sure what you mean, only the performance versions of standard VWs are pricey. The GLI is simply an enhanced Jetta, and the standard Jetta runs for about $18,000 from the dealer.
Sullykandd, Any aftermarket parts will void Warranty bro. I just traded in my 2005 GLI for a 2009 GLI and I want to get a cold air intake, but im still making my mind up cause any aftermarket parts will void warranty
since when? should only be voided if any internal engine parts are changed that are performance parts other than factory replacements. An intake and exhaust should not and normally will not void a warranty on any car
Only if you're really tuning your shit but an intake won't void your warranty...a reflash "can" though--> "Your Dealership should place the vehicle owner on notice in writing, that their Mechatronics Unit was found to
have been tuned, and that any damage caused by the tuning of the Mechatronics Unit (including any adverse
emissions consequences) will not be covered by Volkswagen of America, Inc. warranties." But just an intake, they can't. According to the "Magnuson-Moss" Warranty Act.
Does anyone know what the wheel horsepower is on a GLI w/ the APR 93 octane ecu flash? They told me I had 252HP/303torque and their website says the same but I don't know if this is at the crank or at the wheels...
What I referring to is the fact that vw, having difficulty selling the r32 cuz it only came with DSG.There's also question as to wether or not the DSG can handle moderate increases in hp and torque.Don't get me wrong your stock GLI is a nice car, however when I bought my GLI I test drove the what was then called the tiptronic trans in the mk4 and could not understand why anyone except a woman would buy one.I'm sure I wasn't the only one cuz the dealer couldn't keep the 6 speeds on the lot.
my mom has a 2005.5 gti(which is a 2006 mk5 gti but she got it befoe it came out)and she has a GIAC RSS-20 Big Turbo kit and the dsg held up fine for shes still with the completly stock dsg tranny for 3 years now and 393 whp and 402 wtq.
Your mom! listen my friend I'm not knew to VW tuning. The last time I checked GIAC doesn't make anything other than software. You say your mom's car, your mom's is putting down 393 whp on pump gas. apr makes a kit for the mkv which cost around $7000.00 and even it, the best kit on the market doesn't make that much hp. Dude stop telling lies. The whole vw world knows the stock dsg will not withstand this kind of hp and torque increase.
@mattxr2i Yeah the Bugatti Veyron does use a 7-speed DSG. VW first used the DSG in 2003 in the r32, most likely they used this as a test bed for the DSG as they had used the Passat to test the W style engines before putting it in the higher end cars,(Phaeton, Touareg, Veyron, etc.) obviously in displacement. They tend to test certain technology first in lower end cars.
Volkswagen, a nice combination of luxury, fine engineering and speed! No need to be all flashy and ghetto like honda civics and all them ugly oriental cars.
I'm so sick and tired of people only thinking of drag times, maybe this car isn't for drag racing you idiot, every single video I read if it isn't about drag racing they complain, and now you got me complaining. I would LOVE to see your "drag car" (if you even have one) go around a track, because muscle cars are mainly built for STRAIGHT LINES...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
so is not a car for drag... i know that is a car to go to walmart and shop with the family, is a slow car, is heavy like shit, not good for handling, mi car is not for drag, but i know a VW is slower, just put a huge stereo on it and hope nobody ever rev to you on a stop light ;)
I don't know if you read the description, where it says my car is 100% STOCK. Nothing in the vehicle has been altered. I have no benefit to lying, and I have not chipped my ECU. I would, but I do not want to risk damage to the drivetrain + void the drivetrain warranty.
you yourself said your worried about damage to the drivetrain with only a software upgrade which will only give you about 50 hp. Get your story straight. Oh and by the way a ecu flash will not void your warranty. I have had warranty work done with a fmic, full, exhaust, giac flash and more. You are knew to vw tuning and have a great deal to learn.
i'm looking to modify my GLI. what do you guys reccomend in terms of exhaust. i want it to sound like an audi, which sound fucking awesome!

@specialk18701 The DSG shifts faster than you can manually shift, so that's why it makes it quicker in acceleration.

I had an intake on the car but I took it off. I wasn't too fond of it, and you could tell it lost a little bit of low end torque.

really?! it LOST torque? thats strange.. are you sure there wasnt a leak in the piping?

should be at the crank
ericjackson40 2 years ago
Definitely at the crank. APR quotes are always crank HP. However, I don't think I've ever seen a "stage 1" flash see more than 220 hp at the wheels.

I can't believe anyone would buy a sports sedan with DSG. I think vw made a big mistake with this trans especially with the r32.
sullykandd 3 years ago
tell me how.
dsg loses 8% power thru all the drivetran parts.
a vw manuel loses 11%.
and a regular auto with a torque converter loses 18%

Last tank I got over 400 miles. Like.. 430. If I stay off it I can easily get 33-35 MPG which is above the EPA rating.
Mixed + spirited driving, I usually get 28-29 MPG.
