Overall good videos. BUT...I can't understand why you are using fluid when you have a charcoal chimney?! It only takes some paper and a couple minutes to get it going!
Really easy and very tasty! the best part: you can sit back and enjoy few drinks not to be bother. we love this video, shows perfectly everything and most importantly the simple way. Our neighbors also jumped the fence to taste it! Good job Barbecue Web-thanks!
@sh0rtbuskid 185 degrees was written on the screen but I only go to 165 degrees because that is what it says on my thermometer for chicken. 165 is safe for all foods. And at 165 his chicken was a beautiful golden brown. At 185 it looked like roadkill. LOL ...but maybe he did that because he likes a crunchy skin. These guys know what they are doing so who am I do say different. I love these boys!
Another great video guys! I watch all the time and enjoy seeing fellow smokers broadcast to the world the art this has become. We enjoy cooking with the most primitive of styles. Although, I prefer wood logs over adding charcoal and chips, the outcome is just as grand. Keep up the great work.
thru the miracle of time... Doing this right now. All I have is a gas grill but we'll see. Bought a smoker box from sears for $5 and I'm testing it out. Thanks for another "guud" video.
I believe the instrument that is being played in the background is called a zydeco which like an accordian on a smaller scale popular instrument for cajun music chicken looks fantastic cant wait to try it
I've seen that same weber grill for many of your bbq videos , boy! them weber grills last a long time or how many webers have you gone through?. Is weber your sponser? they sure cook good or is you ?
@MrTon1929 - Weber Kettle Grills are porcelain enameled have a 10 year warranty!
After 10 years of heavy use, smoking/grilling on my Weber Kettle Grill, I've replaced the grates once. Need to replace handles ($8.49), bottom input vents / "One-Touch" cleaning system ($13.99), & its, just this year, starting to show a little rust (where it got dented).
Weber Kettle Grills are built to last, versatile, easy to maintain and use far less charcoal than most other smokers. I love mine!
I enjoy the honey, butter, and Paul Prudomme's Meat Magic or even a Sweet Baby Ray's sauce. Good video! I've had to go 36 hours without eating before my operation, so this was tough to watch. I'll be having some split roast this weekend for sure.
as great as this recipe is it also points to one of the greatest flaws in slow cooking. the wonderful scents produced in the slow cooking method make you so hungry that it is a test of endurance to see if your will-power can hold out against one of your most basic desires which is the desire to devour some damn good food!
ive been looking for a vidoe like this since 07. good job. if i was the same man i was 2 years ago id say good shit! but im not since im a bit more mature :P
you say that you dont want to wash your grill because of the soap taste, but what about the lighter fluid? wouldnt that leave a stronger taste than the soap?still you guys do a good job keep it up
That makes sense but in the video he is putting something that looks like lighter fluid (1:40 min ) on the coals where he says at a comment below that you don't use lighter fluid. I don't know what else the liquid is.
LF, if used correctly, is completely safe to use. The debate on the subject of LF vs Chimney gets boring after awhile..... Go with what inspires you to make great barbecue! -BBQ Pit Boys
The BBQ Pit Boys changed the way I cooked for good. As a college student, I sometimes have no choice but to eat that frozen food garbage sometimes. But now I'm eating wholesome, old-time-style food. Thanks fellas.
We're cooking this today - Merry Christmas to you all. I have learned so much from the BBQ Pit boys. May your grills burn em low and slow here in 09'. Thanks for everything.
Hot dang that looks amazing! Can't WAIT to try it. Ordinarily I would be intimidated by trying to grill a whole bird (as opposed to just parts), but that was explained so well and made it seem so easy (easier than it really is for a true novice I'm sure, but that's ok), that I'm really looking forward to giving it a shot. Way to go guys!
Oh no, the Chicken Police are back. Actually, before we placed the finished chicken back on the cutting board we took it down to the river and scrubbed it with soap and water, and then took it to our tool shop and sanded it down with our Milwaukee power sander. -BBQ Pit Boys
ive seen all these videos, and boy do they make you hungry. We should arrange a bbq in a park or somewhere and invite the pit boys along what a party that would be.
I can't get enough of your videos! Truly amazing!! I have a question about the "Salad Oil" dressing that you use in this video. It appears to be a bottle of Wish-bone Caesar dressing. However, I get thrown off about this because Wish-bone Caesar dressing is creamy white. The dressing that comes out of your bottle appears to be a nice italian oil/vinegar combo with a sweet color! Are you using your own mixture in that bottle, or does Wish-bone sell that off the shelf? Please do tell!
hi Vikkar, that salad dressing we're using is Italian style Oil & Vinegar. Make up your own vinaigrette or use ready made off the shelf products like we are here. Using just olive oil will produce a nice tender and moist chicken as well! -BBQ Pit Boys
Looks great, but I have one question: Why don't you butterfly the chicken first? Seems like it would be a good idea to get rid of the backbone and breastbone before cooking. Does it matter much? (That said, I have a chicken prepared using your method on my grill cooking right now. Can't wait!)
hey renodavid, we found that by using this method (without removing the breastbone and backbone and with the skin intact) keeps the bird real moist and tender. -BBQ Pit boys
I loved this recipe so much I did this recipe again, just yesterday! I don't know if its just me but whenever I watch pitboys vids I feel like BBQin'....DO one recipe you end doing more..... I have to admit its addicting!!!!
times is relative.....i.e. how hot the coals, how much meat in the grill, ambient temp., wind, ETC. The chicken meat near the bone should be around 180f before removing from the grill.....
Ijust cooked this today exactly like this except I also added Old Bay seasoning to the chicken. It was so tender it almost fell apart taking it off the grill. It was so damn good!!!
The thing thats fascinating about is, it not only mouth-watery delicious but turns out to picture perfect at the end. LOW & SLOW is the only method I use for the grill! THX to these guys!
ya'll want to coat the entire chicken with the salad oil dressing...or olive oil! Then baste the top with our bastin' sauce, although flippin' the bird to baste the bottom is not a bad idea. Thanks for stoppin' by! -BBQ Pit Boys
Never did the lemon cleaning you can try a half of an onion. After im done cleaning the grill I just throw it in the fire along with wood. Not sure if it gives an onion smoke I just tend to do that.
hey NapEli. Since we're partial to onions and onion smoked BBQ, your grill cleaning tip gets our 5 star rating... Thanks for stoppin' by! -BBQ Pit Boys
Hey how much was that Weber grill? And how long have you had it? I'd do a lot more outdoor cooking if I had something a little better than my £20 grill. I'm in the UK, so everything is about 1/3 more expensive anyway!
You can get a good idea what a Weber will cost ya by going to Amazon. The Weber in this vid is about 10 years old and has served up 100's of meals. This model with the table has been discontinued, unless you get the auto-charcoal lighter model. You won't be disappointed with the quality of a Weber grill.
Thanks for the feedback. I actually found one here in the uk for £220 (about $440). It's the 'One Touch Platinum 57cm' - i'm putting my order in now so i can get some early spring BBQing on the go. Thanks again!
...and you can get salmonella from pick'n your nose, foxbow15. Man has prepared food on wood since the beginning of time. Just use common sense, and keep your hands and boards clean between food types. Thanks fo stoppin' by! -BBQ Pit Boys
What I like is you guys use products that can be purchased all across the nation, not like big TV that uses stuff I've never even heard of or I don't have the time to dig a pit and burn my own oak logs to make charcoal. Again great job!
We try to keep it simple and stick to "real food" around here, using meats, sauces, spices you're likely to already have in your fridge, on your food shelf, or you can buy at your local market -we leave the exotic or imported stuff and recipes to the Food Channel! Thanks for stoppin' by. -BBQ Pit Boys

Really nice, looks great. Did you or should you base the bottom side?
thebug1656 3 years ago
ya'll want to coat the entire chicken with the salad oil dressing...or olive oil! Then baste the top with our bastin' sauce, although flippin' the bird to baste the bottom is not a bad idea. Thanks for stoppin' by! -BBQ Pit Boys

The best way to clean your grill its rubbing a(half cut, with the flesh) lemon hard ,while the grill its hot.Try it.

Never did the lemon cleaning you can try a half of an onion. After im done cleaning the grill I just throw it in the fire along with wood. Not sure if it gives an onion smoke I just tend to do that.

Thanks again!

chicken on a wooden cutting board....you can get salmonella from that you know..
foxbow15 4 years ago
...and you can get salmonella from pick'n your nose, foxbow15. Man has prepared food on wood since the beginning of time. Just use common sense, and keep your hands and boards clean between food types. Thanks fo stoppin' by! -BBQ Pit Boys

you get salmonella from eating RAW chicken or pork. only if you lick the wooden board after cutting it then you can get it but who would do that?

Most excellent job!!!!
