Props for your knowledge, Paddy. It has got to be said - Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin, Jennifer Holliday, Chaka Khan, Tina Turner - we will not see or hear their kind again....what will we have to replace them? Mariah? Too clinical. Whitney? Perhaps. Which only leaves us Mary, who can and has worked with Aretha. Jill Scott is another mention and Erykah Badu. I cannot think of anyone else...

I've been pondering the same thing since the 80's(No Lie-LOL) & the only 1 I can think of is Lauryn Hill & Mary.Lauryn has been the most innovative singer since Chaka(well I guess MJB too).Her 8 grammy award-winning Miseducation album displayed her budding musical genius,her confidence,impeccable writing skills,& polish.Besides you can't ignore the irony that she fronted an all male ensemble & went on to greater heights,not unlike C.K.She is also about her art & her growth as an artist.

actually they worked separately on particular song..this song was pre recorded with Mary's vocal first before handed to Chaka to fill in her part..if they were to work hand in hand i think Mary should be the nervous one considering the amount of respect she had for Chaka..but they are friends so what the heck..lol

Yea Mary is cool but she is no where near Chaka, Mary got better over time, Chaka is a natural she was born wit it, Mary was taught and she learned. I dont have a music degree busic I fully agree with cheekbeatah. There will never be another female to come close to Chaka, she is fearless she will try any type of music. female artist today find there comfort zone and they stay in it, they do not want to take any chances.
