  • this is the next level..it isnt normal collision warning and braking...its better because the braking time is longer because the other cars in the other lanes.

  • @sgtcht92 now it will with the s60

  • how about people learn how to drive better and pay attention. I get cut off all the time by people driving Peices of shit like corrollas and civics, it's like they dont care or dont pay attention

  • The program is done now and you can buy a Volvo with this system.

  • ok it has automatic breaking but what if the driver presses further down on the break and causing the car to loose control

  • Sounds like an interesting QA test case but I would think that the ABS system will prevent lock ups and ESC would also take over.

  • wooow perfect

  • So try to go to a demo-durbi with aa car like that!!, joke!!

  • brilliant

  • evry van know volvo is the safest car in the world

  • pretty cool, we need this on all cars... My dad is paralised cause we were hit in the back of the buggy by a car.

  • I would much rather crash then have a car with a brain in any situation, and what about glitches, computer viruses, I'll just drive a golf cart instead, auto pilot commute count me out, I'd rather be without a car

  • Wow. That is probably the most retarded thing I have ever read.

    You win the prize!

  • and?... just cause you think its retarded does not mean I am

infact I think your responce is the most retarded thing Ive ever read

if you don't like my opinion oh well many people have the same idea

you can't change my opinion nomatter what you try

  • Oh, I know I can't change your opinion.

From someone you might be able to relate to: "You can't fix stupid".

  • what makes you think your so damn smart just cuase your mommy said so? you can be just as easily wrong as me

are you arguing on the internet? yes I thought so

  • на даже до чего наука дошла!Скоро, наверно, машины сами будут ездить.

  • This technology mainly addesses the drivers safety - what about the other people in traffic like cyclists and playing children?

  • What about them? Its not saying the driver can fall asleep and forget about driving. Its helps out the driver when they cant react in time. After all, how many people do you know that planned to get in accidents?

  • What's with all the fucking porn adds? Anyway, great vid. Volvo for life!

  • it works in only all people used volvo. otherwise, you got your car stop but the other car behind you couldn't make it and hit you on the rear.

  • At least in America, it won't be your fault - in America, if you're hit from the rear, no matter what it's the person who hit you's fault.

I like the concept, just hopefully they develop it well enough and properly. So much technology today is just so under-developed and flawed (*cough*vista)

  • I like the technology but it's to the point that it's controlling our lives and monitoring our every move and telling everything like going over the speed limit and did the driver have his/her seatbelt on during a car accident and so on. just too controlling.

  • Yeah in a decade or two they might put in automatic speedlimiters and all that. Scary. :(

  • Some rental car companies did that with the speed monitoring and ticketed people who went over the speed limit when they returned the cars. People took it to court to fight that system I read it on some site plus my Automotive instructor told me about it first.

  • They already limit the speed on cars in Japan. Most japanese sports cars can easily surpass 240kph, but ALL japanese cars are factory limited to 180kph via a computer chip.

However, you can of couse illegally remove the speed limiter chip ;P

  • They already have automatic speed limiters...

Why do you think the throttle in a Chevrolet stops responding at 98MPH?

  • NO ONE IS STUPID ENOUGH TO CRASH A VOLVO

  • what if you wanted to purposely crash the car? lol

  • No worries, I could still crash that car easy :)

  • sure, but is there some sort of magnet in the back of the car so others dont ram your ass?

  • compleatly hate the idea we don't need to make drivers lazyer then they already are and gives them the ability to not even consentrate on the road whitch is a drivers first obligation when entering a vehicle

  • i think ill pass with 50 pounds of junk in the trunk.

  • i like :)

Remember mercedes already has this technology in their range topping model's.

  • hahaha true!

  • Ted, this is Volvo you're talking about. The system would not be set of by a frickin' cat, you fucktard. Have you ever seen a car as big as a cat? Didn't think so. Don't be so fucking critical if you have no idea. And plus you should never swerve to avoid anything that isn't human unless it's big like a moose or a cow.

  • That's amazing! It's nice to see car companies who actually do "R&D" over something other than engine performance....

  • They don't, anymore. Street cars are already more powerful than required for street driving. For example, the transition from the older 740s to the 960s saw an advanced implementation of computer/electronic management systems that replaced the mechanical systems (namely, distributer, throttle body, etc), and most cars today are focused on interior technology, safety (numbered by airbag count), and how clean the engine runs.

  • Hrm, I wasn't aware of that...I haven't been able to compare any recent Volvo's to the vehicles out right now. Simply because I don't run into many. Do you know what else they've done in the way of safety?

  • Thats .. nice.. they'll need to connect the system to all the vehicles sensors and .. basicly to all of the systems.. especially the velocity sensor.. though, it would be awesome if you tried to park your car somewhere and that device went all bitchmode and wouldn't let you move forward :D

  • There could be many things that could set off this system accidentally. What if a cat walked out into the road? Normally, a driver would just swerve to avoid it, but this system will abruptly cause the car to stop, opening up the potential for a rear-end accident. I'm sure there's the option to turn it on and off, but what good would it do if you kept it off all the time? This is one of those saftey features that I wouldn't use until they've perfected it. Just my 2¢.

  • i wanna ask sumthin.. what about if you're on the middle of the highway (of course it's a place where speed should be high) and you caught yourself behind a car that's also at top speed and then your car suddenly stops? wouldnt that be much more dangerous than colliding? pls answer my question...

  • I think the adaptive cruise control system (the laser) will actually measure the speed difference of the car in front of you. Here the brake system is being tested against a stationary object.

  • There is nothing wrong with the car industry developing new safety features. I hate seeing people criticise things which have a legitimate use which are still being developed.

This is a great concept and might just save the lives of a few blind grannies.

  • BUT WHAT IF I WANT TO CRASH INTO THE CAR, LIEK OMG!

  • im impressed by how you see a link between volvo and hitler.

  • I think most people will still have the reaction of swerving into the other lane if they are about to rear end another car so even if it breaks for you, you'll still get fucked by other cars around you. it's just natual for people to swerve out of the way.

  • THIS IS A SCAM

  • Do you honestly think they would have the sensitivity of the device detecting obstacles so high that it would brake for a small animal?

I do however see this possibly being a problem if you were following closely behind a car on the road. How can it detect that the other vehicle is moving fast enough that although you are approaching it at a fast speed, you are not going to hit it?

  • OK BUT what about when a rabbit runs out in the middle of the road and it swerves and throws you into a bigger danger like a ditch or soemthing (you get my point ... liek there are sometimes unique situations where this could screw up badly ..with unforseen consequences.

  • That is lame, they think your so stupid you don't know how to drive your own car. C'mon

  • If everyone is so smart why are we still getting in accidents like this everyday? They are called accidents for a reason. No mater how smart you are, you will still have them.

  • That's really neat. It could really save lives, but lets hope they perfect it beyond a doubt before it gets on the road. I shudder to think what could happen if it desides that you didn't break hard enough when you're going 70+ mph down the freeway.
