  • @KrAzYMaSoN99 I agree, 200$ for windows 7? Really? Even though I did purchase it, I knew it wasn't worth it. Something like this is perfect for the average joe

  • @sofnsable IKR and next year windows is gonna release windows8! i just bought windows7 last month!

  • FOR IS MAY FEN

    FIKIU TU MODEN

  • Lol, I used ubuntu for a LONG time, and it felt like I just switched to windows.

  • elldada forever!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey buddy how much ram i should give it 64 mb ? I just wanna learn Ubuntu and Linux. Thanks Subscribed.

  • what´s better: windows, mac or this??

  • @lpwarrior3 Opinions. Some like Windows, others Mac OS, others Linux. This is why I like Linux - you have a choice. Instead of being stuck with Windows or Mac OS, you can try out other OSs to see what's better for YOU. You're the only judge; try it out, see if you like it, heck you can even boot it side-by-side with Windows or Mac OS. But if you're leery on it, get a free ISO, burn it, and load it to try it out.

  • @lpwarrior3 Windows, Because that supports everything =D

  • @MarantzSt153 No it does not.

  • @lpwarrior3 best to worst Mac, Windows, Ubuntu. Mac for the lack of viruses plus its really fast & easy to use. Windows because its just the standard for computers and its simple to use and to do what you want with it. and Ubuntu is last because it is pretty complex to use, if your an expert in IT maby Ubuntu is for you, but otherwise i wouldnt bother

  • @Chris2o2 ubuntu isnt complex ¬¬

  • @AOESQUAD how isnt it? most applications people will use will be designed for windows (mac have their own versions for most) so you have to use wine to get lots of things working

  • Very interesting :) good to play around with discover new things. I personally love this.

  • @cablesphere lol

  • I do not expect games in my OS, i keep wondering what the fuck they are thinking at microsoft.

  • Ubuntu fucking sucks.

  • what a shiittttttttt

  • This video was uploaded on my birthday :D

  • @DrG241 well happy belated b day 1 year and change late

  • wow, youre to smart for me, now if you will excuse me im gunnu go with the OTHER stupid people in the corner over there

  • This is COOL!

  • When you install linux and then boot, can you delete the Windows Or Default OS system without the OS disc? I need to do that

  • @TheNarhen yes you can and it's easy, just have to follow the step when you'll install linux with the live cd.

  • what's with all the files like do you have to change the format for ubuntu and stuff??

  • nice vid, i just installed ubuntu and this vid helps regarding familiarization :D

  • its llook like a free mac

  • for installing ubuntu i have to remove windows??? and do i have to format my drives?

  • i think i will install ubuntu once on my laptop because its a type of linux even i can handle :D

  • Do u need to reinstall ur computer ?^^

  • the dude sounds like a retard lol

  • I have a problem my mouse and keyboard don’t work how do i fix this?

  • so i can install ubuntu and keep my original opereting system? or I HAV 2 MAKE A new partition or i must hav a addicional harddrive to install it or, omg i got confused!! XD

  • @magdaleny

you can try it from the live cd wihtout any installing to install it, you have to do a partition, but it asks for it :)

  • where is a new 1 now

  • how you put start bar down the bottom

  • @smexable you can't do that anymore :(

  • upooptu... what? that's what it looks like with that color!

  • @Opisthotonos Uhm yh not many liked the brown so they changed the colours they use, go check ubuntu 10.04, they use orange white black and purple.

  • @zikalify uhm yh, urangtu, uwhitu, ublacktu and upurptu sounds way better! :P

  • @Opisthotonos you crazy? erm btw ubuntu isnt just a random word yaknow

  • @zikalify yes it is yaknooooooow

  • Also Kubuntu .. i would recommend a KDE Linux for new users coming to Linux, its much more familiar to people from Windows, and isn't brown.

personally i recommend "Linux Mint KDE " for new users.

  • does ubuntu support the very old dell inspron 3200 laptop?

  • @sonicscrewdriver01 most likely, just download the livecd and try with it

  • I have OSX and this looks really good.

Its making me think twice about Apple, I should have done more research

before buying a $1,000 Mac. I thought Windows and OSX was the only OS's

    there was for public use.

I can't believe Ubuntu is free I might download it on my Mac, now will Ubuntu

work in boot camp or will it only work in a VM ?

    Thanks,

    Jonathan

  • @SocialistxSoldier It will work on bootcamp

  • the second package you downloaded isn't compatable with your system. it contains the compiz packages for the KDE window system. you're using GNOME.

  • It is not pronounced with the bun sylable. it is ooboontoo

  • PHOENIX and UNIX are better :P

  • If you want to learn how to use ubuntu come to my channel and check out the tutorials I have made. They're very simple and straightforward, all of them are made with new users in mind! =) Just click on my name to enter my channel!

  • ubuntu is a cunt

  • mac os wannabe

  • @TheCallOfDutyNoob How so? This isnt Mac OSX

  • @TheCallOfDutyNoob no it's not. I just has a bar at the top, so what? it has a bottom bar too, fucking mac fag. It's not like "omg mac osx has a browser, such a windows ripoff"

  • arch is soo much better

  • the os is sick, especially windows but i dont like the background but its pretty cool though

  • ur processer 1.5 GHZ with 768 ram. I hav wonderfully usedit on a 0.9 Ghz machine with 256 mb ram. Only thing u gona miss is desktop effects of compiz which require higer processer.

  • Do editing programs like Sony Vegas, After effects, Photoshop etc, work on ubuntu and linux?

  • @kilvertm No.

  • @kilvertm You'll have to ask the makers of that software for Linux versions of their programs. I use Linux. All my video editing is done in Kdenlive. I'm not a pro but you can check my vids to see what can be done with it.

  • @Sly95ThaMan It sure can. You could also try Xubuntu or Lubuntu for old machines.

  • @Sly95ThaMan Jesus fuck.... even my laptop is better than that... but yes, it would be a very nice laptop to dick around with the system on. It's a very minimalistic OS.

  • @Sly95ThaMan almost certainly. however, you won't know until you try!

  • just a combination of Windows and Mac.

  • is ubuntu better than windows vista?

  • @MrAsian890 well...anything is better that vista xD

  • @MrAsian890 YES

  • @MrAsian890 Depends, It's a matter of taste. Ubuntu is a great OS. If you're not playing games, or have to use some windows programs, you should be fine. Give it a go with the wubi installer from the ubuntu website, then you can always uninstall it afterwards from windows.

  • I typed " compiz" but nothing appeared! And also I select to show me all of the applications. And I also typed "advanced desktop settings" but nothing appeared :( I want these effects and I like them can you help me? :)

  • nice man....

  • Awesome, I'm typing this comment through the Ubuntu demo. Anyways, does anyone know how to enable the 3D driver needed for the effects? When I ask Ubuntu to do it the download screen starts and finishes but nothing really happens after.

  • I like the first picure, the jackalope one.

Good video, it's probably helpful for people who have never tried out linux!

  • i dont get it, its just DOS?

  • Can any 1 help me out ?

i just got a new gaming rig. i have NO operating system for it. i need wndows 7 for it to use all its power i think :P but i really don't want to go out and buy it. can i use Ubuntu for gaming ?

  • @MrsRandomMadeMeDoIt Ubuntu isn't very good at gaming, ubuntu is really good for communicating complex commands to your computer

  • @supergenius1994 How about a computer for internet surfing, some programs and that basic stuff?

  • @JorgeHGPR Google OS.

  • @JorgeHGPR not google os

    its called chrome os

  • @MrsRandomMadeMeDoIt Ubuntu alone won't play all Windows games. You need Wine. Or if you need a lot of Windows apps, you need to dual-boot or have virtualization software.

  • no better than microsoft ubuntu full of bugs too!!!!! fuckin shit ware built by shit heads

  • Wow, Ubuntu is great. Today i was complaining how XP was being a bitch and being slow. So i just ( like 10 minutes ago ) got Ubuntu. Its Smooth, looks great and easy to use.

  • So you mean i not need to worry about drivers at all ? Even i'm using vista..?

  • I 'm posting this comment from my new fresh Ubuntu 10.04. It's great! Fast, Nice, Good-Looking, Cool, just amazing.

  • Windows and Ubuntu FTW!

  • donde puedo conseguir el ubutu?

  • @FaNiUx17 google ubuntu download to get it.

  • @PCWizKid can you download games on ubuntu?

  • @PCWizKid google translate lol

  • @PCWizKid so you speak spanish. :) haha

  • why did you block qgamez i never did anything to you

    ?

  • @HowComesYoublockedME Did you really make a new account to bitch and complain about him blocking you? Fucking stalker. No wonder he blocked you, you make new sock accounts based on his actions!

    Pathetic and sad.

  • Very cool, nice tutorial.

I like the 3D desktop, I think thats something that should have been done a long time ago. Creative thinking, instead of the traditional 2D way of human thinking.

  • "...detected everything..."

    lucky you =(

  • Ubantu...

  • I can't get my Ubuntu 9.10 to work :/

  • @Mariuspersem ubuntu 9.10 is a mess, i have asked alot of ubuntu users and they all didnt like 9.10, try 9.04, its supported until october this year, or u could upgrade to 10.04 LTS, or u could wait until 9.04 support is dropped, 10.10 will be out in october so...

  • Why we are get complicated? Using Microsoft Virtual Machine 2007 this OS will be .... just try it on Virtual Machine

  • This looks like one big winform application.

  • i used to have windows 7 on my laptop dicided to try ubuntu and let me tell you it looks really nice but its like being on xp again so slow and you know when you move a window around and the traces follow its horrible takes long time to load things. but enyway thats my opinion it might work good for you just didnt for me good luck!

  • i am using win xp my C drive i have three more partition fat32 format. now i install ubuntu 9.0.4 in my D drive the problem is ubuntu not showing my all partitions. Any one help me bec i am using 1st ubuntu

  • If i'd still had my laptop which i left in Germany, i'd put linux or ubuntu right away on it :)

  • Can someone tell me how to get this running on an Acer computer with Vista.. i have tried several different methods.. booting from a virtual drive, burning a disk.. (not sure how to make a live cd) even tried using Wubi.. every time it only gets to 47% partitioning.. and goes no further.. am i supposed to partition before i install? or am i doing something wrong.. I dont know how to run the disk at start up.. i can only do it by running the disk in windows and rebooting from there.

  • @Basedeath All you need to do to make a live cd is burn the image to a disk with the proper software. ImgBurn works well for this, just be sure to select "Burn Image", NOT "Burn Files".

  • @Basedeath you can burn a live cd using liveiso or something like that..... :D

  • relley dude remove this theres 9.10 out and 10.4 so relley

  • I put Linux on my computer, it cleared the whole partition, then I put Vista on it, then when I did my windows 7 upgrade, I could no longer access the daul boot system. Anyone got any advice?

  • @FromyColdeadHands get easybcd or supergrubcd or just use a livecd and reinstall grub or you can use easybcd to add an entry to the windows boot manager

  • can I still have windows 7 and linux on the same computer? and if so, would I have to reinstall all my programs into linux or what?

  • Amazing tutorial!Thanks a lot!

  • wow looks great.

Looks like its time for me to switch to this.

And I payed for windows 7. Heh.

  • @dano555666 Ubuntu is great. It's much more secure than Windows, and because it's open-source, if there is ever a bug found - it's usually fixed before the bad guys have time to test it. If you are an intermediate user, you will have no problem using Ubuntu full time. For beginners, it does require some occasional tweaking which may require you to use the command line (terminal). But it's great!

  • @VideoGuyNC Ubuntu isn't safer then "Windows" first of all you didn't name any Windows version, second of all Linux distrebutions are just less common then Windows distrebutions (speaking from the numbr of users) witch means there are far less people writing viruses or trojans for linux, same goes for Apple operationg systems

Nevertheless ubuntu is a great OS, soipped using it thow due to ATIs bad driver support, its reccomandable for people with older ATI gpu (older then HD 3xxx) or Nvidia gpu

  • @Raffix394 I didn't cyte a specific version of Windows because Ubuntu is more secure than all of the windows versions. The reason is 2 fold. 1) it's open source, and there are thousands of developers working and tweaking the code all the time, and fixing problems before they have time to be exploited. 2) The Linux structure is just more secure from the ground, up. Windows is designed for flexibility which means it HAS to have more vulnerability to allow for flexibility.

  • or you can dual boot windows and linux with Wubi Installer. Google it.

  • you sound exactly like my dentist D:

  • its cool i had windows vista before but ubuntu its better .....

  • i got 9.10

  • this looks cool but a bit old fashioned

  • you can improve it. believe me

  • you're on a mac

  • looks good

  • I wasn't clear with some things. Synaptic is not only a search app tool, but think of it as a very advanced add or remove programs tool. Not only doest it give you a list of every official program, but you can even add links to it to add more programs. For instance. I use xbmc as my media center of choice. You will need to add this link to synaptic and then you will be able to download and install it.

  • The best thing to learning linux is actually playing around with it will looking up info on the offical ubuntu forums site. Without playing with linux you will never get to understand how great linux (ubuntu in this case) is. But if I am around, and i see people with comments I will try to help.

  • Basically Synaptic Package manager is an updated list of currently available packages (programs) that you can search through. Trust me there are more then you can shake a stick at. Check out the ubuntu forums to get a general idea of what you are looking for, or even synaptic will give you a small description about that package.

  • There is software called wine (free version) and cedega (paid for version) that is a library of the windows api and used to install windows based apps. Now, not all games/apps will work under wine/cedega. I can tell you for sure that world of warcarft works perfectly for me. Remember every pc is different so it may not be so perfect for you.

Also don't forget that linux has their own games like alien arena, sebastian (spelling?), nexius, etc.

  • I will try to answer some of these as i been using ubuntu since version 6.04. I also been using redhat and the new distro from them fedora core. Well not that new, but anyways.

You can use some normal progams like limewire yahoo messenger, adobe reader etc. But do know that this is open source so it is best to use open source apps like open office instead of microsoft office. And best of all, open source apps are free.

  • @scotv453 Open source applications are always free (libera), but do not have to be free (senkosta). They are always free as in freedom, but not free as in free beer. Aurdor 2 for Mac OS X is not free of cost, you have to donate at least one dollar to acquire it.

  • Not being rude, but as a seasoned linux user....uh, I already knew that. My conversation was based to new users. So the MAJORITY of the open source are free for purchase .

Thanks for the open source definition though, but 9/10 times, if an app costs there will be another that can do almost, or more of, the same thing for free of cost..

  • can you use normal programmes such as after effects. msn messenger and all them . or do they only work if the producer of the programme makes an ubuntu compatable version?

    im new to this... thanks

  • @TechHelperx in standard ubuntu comes with a program called empathy, you can use google talk, msn and yahoo accounts on it and a good proggram for after effects would be wine

  • Its oo-boo-ntoo.

  • can someone help me with ubuntu, i have a video showing the problem can you pleas help me?

  • the other important thing .. lets say that u my friend r playing 4 example RE 5 pc ver .. and suddenly for some reason .." KABOOM " u have a virus from i dont no .. u name it and u the system needs 2 formate NOW .. so win on ubuntu is mooooore safe than the original one take it as easy as it and be a flexible person and try it .. just give it a shot u r not gona lose any thing its for free .. i wish u good luck

  • I'm a total linux NOOB ,Can you play the latest games on Ubuntu ?...

  • there is some way my friend .. one of them will be the " WINE " other one is virtual box winch can activate XP , MAC OS X .. but trust me there is a way .. as long as there is a shell .. there is a way

  • I 2nd that - you can always find a way to do games. Unfortunately I'm still in dual-boot mode because I also use my laptop for DJ gigs, so unless someone knows a sure fire way of using Virtual DJ, Hercules DJ Console RMX controller and ASIO4ALL drivers without any latency and full blown sync between Virtual DJ and iTunes...yeah - haven't solved that workaround yet! Mixx just doesn't cut it for me :-)

  • u no .. people should change to ubuntu

    why ? " VIRUS "

    SO

linux family are the best ( fedora - mint - kubuntu - ubuntu - red hate .. etc )

ubuntu for the most kind of users

    programmers - artists ( Maya - blender ... etc )

gamers ( do u belief XP on ubuntu is safe and more beautiful than the stupid original one

    AND REMEMBER

Linux is from people to people its gives Choices and have no limits .. just have Patience to learn it

  • how to change the resolution via sudo gedit tobe 1024x768 i only have the highest 800x600 thank u

  • Have you got a 'sis mirage 3' graphics card? I don't think its compatable.

  • hey do a 10.4 (l.l) firstlook vid ok u can do now or wait 4 stable in 29th april

  • is ubuntu better than windows xp pro?

  • can i install it with my win7

  • @war4life3000 yes

  • shame he never made part 2 :(

  • "In a world where there are no walls or doors, we don't need any gates or windows"

  • and should just go back to nature and not have computers, just be free nekced and back in the jungle, no walls doors, windows or gates.

  • @vacationboyvideos you mean bill gates and windows OS's? (joke)

  • I just installed ubuntu 9.10 as a second OS and I have to say it's a very interesting expereience. You are correct when you say it has a learning curve, and I would say that it's pretty large. From the first looks at it I'd have to say it's going to be a fun ride. lol

  • ubuntu is great :-D

  • try linux mint.

  • @MrTabby5000 Tried it.

Its not bad but im using ubuntu.

    Might try opensuse

  • tried opensuse.the network manager crashes, dont like the green theme,I tried ubuntu gnome, crashes and dont like the brown.I like linux mint the best, whoever put this together outdid themselves it rarely crashes.

  • Are you crazy???? You can change the colour of Ubuntu to anything you want! Mint is Ubuntu based anyway! Thats probably why its doing so well.

  • I dont know, but ubuntu and suse is very ugly.kde mint blue is very pretty.

  • The defaults are ugly but who uses defaults?

Ubuntu is basic when you install it because its designed to run on any system. If your system can handle more give it more!

  • ubuntu and suse also crashes.

  • No computer doesn't crash

    No computer doesn't get viruses

I have seen windows crash and get viruses. In fact iv lost count.

Iv yet to see Linux crash or get a virus. Isn't it strange that this one is free and the other is so expensive?

If you can get a VW polo for £3000 or an Aston Martin DB9 for free which do you pick?

  • linux mint is a good distro, better than ubuntu and opensuse.

  • I tried mint. Its not a distro at all because its about 90% Ubuntu.

All thats different is its got the mint theme and a different task bar.

Thats about it. It's nice but in reality all that's happened is Ubuntu was made in Britain and an Irish man tuck it and made it more stylish by default. The idea with Ubuntu is that it is flexible so it will install on a low spec system. Thats why the default Ubuntu style is so basic and perhaps (Ugly).

You don't have to stick with the default theme!

  • @STOPTHEEU i'd stick with the db9 ... and ubuntu never crashed for me and i saw my windows crash on the first logon

  • and xfce

  • whats xfce

  • Great video now I'm thinking about installing ubuntu to my laptop

  • how is vista running on an external drive???? i thought usb was too slow for that! or are you using the e-SATA connection???

  • i have xp and 7 and ubuntu
