Back in 1981, I remember hearing this on a plane flying back from Europe on a business trip after having recently emigrated from UK to USA. This song epitomized my elation over having decided to spend the rest of my life in California - it is punchy, vibrant and energetic sung beautifully by Linda Ronstadt. What a pity we dont hear any more from her. Well I guess that's because we're all growing older. But we're still young at heart. Thanks for the post.
Chuck Berry should be given a medal of honor for this song - what great publicity this was for the US in Eastern Europe back on the 50's 60's 70's... !!!
@ranmore20002000 Back in the 70's she was in fact known as the Queen of Rock, but her talent is just so huge and eclectic that she has been at hit in almost every area - rock, pop, country, the first female solo artist to sell out arena-size venues, then turning her talents to opera, Latin music.... not sure there's any kind of music she can't do and do well.
This is timeless, & better than perfect. And if you like this, Check out by Notre Dame & Radio KSBT for Doug McIntyre's Red Eye Radio -- PJ Kirk June 12, 2010
Yup - but it is interesting to compare her voice here to the way she delivers the same song - with chuck berry - at back in the USA (also available here on youtube). This version is much tighter - though the other band should be better.
@victor190779 Aye, the other band is supposedly better member by member, except maybe for Bob Glaub, but these guys have enthusiasm, nerve and drive in spades. It doesn't take much to make something good out of that.
@mccuttyburg Hehe. All rise for the national anthem, and then people are blasted away by this :-)

@SmokyTheOctopus Um...desperate attempt? These are the songs off "Mad Love", which went platinum (her SEVENTH in a row to do so). Not too desperate.

Yeah, Linda sure was a rockin' wild child! Now I listen to this and realize it's her homage to "Route 66" and Chuck Berry.

@audadvnc did you realize that this is a Chuck Berry song itself?

I remember this as being one of her last hits. I was 18, and I jumped and jammed to it in the clubs. I love RHONDA.

Wow! She had voice, the looks, and the feel to be the Queen of Rock and Roll, guess she didn't want to be, but I wish she would have!

She could also have become first lady in 1976 - if her, then, boyfriend had been a little faster reading the public mood.

@ranmore20002000 LOL she was at the time... insanely popular, but now many people have forgotten her
