I've only taken gymnastics when I was like 5 of 6, but I'm naturally pretty good on the bars. I really want to start again and hopefully make a career out of it, but I didn't know if it would be possible since I'm 11 now and have so little experience. I take ballet right now that might help with balance, and I can hang on a bar hang for more than a minute and climb the rope in gym with ease, so that might be helpful. So could you please tell me if I could make a career out of it? Thanks.
wow, i never knew there were such mean hating people out there. All your comments are really nasty. Post yours up here and i will critique your efforts. You are all nasty, horrible people
@sadistkangel She didn't set any records or win any medals that other American gymnasts hadn't won before her. There are also no moves originated by her. Yes she's an incredibly talented gymnast but others before her and after her have affected the history of gymnastics more.
Larissa Latynina, the greatest Olympic Champion in all the history, the greatest female champion in Olympic history, who holds the record of individual medals of the Olympic history (14 outside of TF)
Olga Mostepanova scored a perfect 40.0 (10 on everything).
Mary Lou Retton just won the AA gold because the USSR didn't go to LA 1984. If they were there, it would be a complete domination.
Mary Lou Retton for me was a butch over confident tomboy showoff with no elegance and grace of Olga and Comaneci. All speed but no grace. like a bull in a china shop compared with the soft, flowing artistry of both Olga and Comaneci
As much as I dislike Khorkina, she should be on a "people who changed gymnastics" list. She created numerous new skills and she is probably the most famous gymnast internationally from the past 15 years or so.
WOw, well then. You have a load of homework to do. Larissa Latynina, Natalia Kuchinskaya, Vera Caslavska, Ludmilla Touricheva, Elena Mukhina, Nellie Kim, Olga Mostepanova, Ma Yanhong, Oksana Omelianchick, Aurelia Dobre, Daniela Silivas, Elena Shushunova, Natalia Laschenova, Boginskaya, Henrietta Onodi, Kim Zmescal, Simona Amanar, Lavinia Milosovici, Andrea Raducan, Khorkina, Carly Patterson, Cheng Fei, Shawn Johnson.... There you can have a more complete list.
@espinaca79 I couldn't have a long project, so I just did some of the most famous, well-known gymnasts. I also fail to see how Shawn Johnson changed the history of gymnastics.
@espinaca79 Wow, than you have some homework to do. Maybe spell Zmeskal right? Or Andreea right? Kuchinskaya, Laschenova, Onodi, Patterson and Johnson didn't do much to change history.
@gymnasticsloverxoxo Nastia tied Shannon for the most decorated American gymnast-and unlike Shannon she added an Olympic AA gold. If she does not retire she has a legitimate chance of surpassing Shannon's mark.
@faeryquene What I meant was Nastia did not change gymnastics (as said in the title), she did not revolutionize it, or make it any different as many gymnasts (Olga, Nadia, podkopayeva, Mukhina etc.) did.

@gymnasticsloverxoxo I think she brought back and reminded us of how balletic and clean gymnastics should be done. i think she did. Gymnastics could have moved on into choppy, sloppy moves all about difficulty but nasia brought back the neat lines
Sorry. This was just a project that I had done earlier on. I only had a certain amount of time to work on it, so I'm sorry I didn't add all of those gymnasts.
@mrparke007 hate the everyone thinks khorkina needs to be on "greats" she was such a bratty diva...didnt find her all that special..couldnt stand watching her actually..she acted too good for others and she wasnt
@luv4cascy She has more gymnastics elements named after her than any other female gymnast. I would say that's a substantial contribution to the sport. Plus, she is, without a doubt, the greatest UB worker ever in the sport (based purely on number of World and Olympic titles). She may have been a bitch, but she was a damn good gymnast with a veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy long track record. Give respect where it's due.

How can anyone not see how Shawn Johnson changed the history of gymnastics, you must not really know what gymnastics is all about?

This is a nice way to express what the average American gymnastics fan thinks.
Put please let it be known that some American gymn fans are actually informed.
And no Khorkina? or Boginskaya? or Silivas? or Caslavska?
Dude. Do your homework before you try to give "some good information" to others about the history of the sport. Please.
