  • Wow!!! You are very good!! How old were you when you filmed this?? And how long have you been playing??

  • WOW.

  • wow, thats wild. Hats off to that kid.

  • Ben is extraordinary. I know it's not good to always wish, but I do sometimes wish I had started at 4 or 5 instead of 13. Ben is an inspiration to me though, and I will challenge myself.

    Best Wishes Ben

    Niina.

  • Respond to this video... is there a modern composer that sounds clasical not irish or celtic

  • @MegaGoVideo Hi there are many. Here are a few - all are also performed by Ben on YouTube: David Watkins - Firedance, Deborah Henson Conant - Nataliana, Esteban Benzacry - Alwa, Bernard Andres - Elegy, Andres Izmaylov - Toward the Sun.

  • is he a child prodigy?

  • @pheona1000 Talented - yes, hard working - yes, dedicated - yes. Prodigy - well I am not too sure simply because he has had to work so hard to get where he is. But my son was just so lucky to find something he loved to do and could do when he was just 4 years old. Any child at that age given the chance can do just about anything so long as it is their wish and not that of their parents.

  • @CreightonGriffiths A prodigy needs to work hard too. =) I think it's a prodigy be a hard working so young. so I don't know him but i think he's a prodigy anyway =O

  • @pheona1000 no, he just pratics of lot!!!

  • Good God that was amazingly good.

  • So gorgeous. Lovely music...beautiful playing. :) But who is the composer; It doesn't say?

  • @icekat83 Hi, Glad you like it. This sonata was composed by the famous blind Welsh harpist John Parry (1710 - 1782)

  • So gorgeous. Lovely music...beautiful playing. :)

  • Comment removed

  • @claudibunni I play Both Violin and harp, and they're both great! I'm about gr7 in each and it's quite hard work practising them both, as i play other instruments too! Yeah, its really expensive : / but deffo worth it! I find violin harder!!! But i enjoy harp more!!

  • What a fantastic thing to have recorded on video at such a young age. To be able to review a life in future by a recording like this will be a magnificent tribute to the skill and dedication to music and will give untold enjoyment in the years ahead. Bravo! I salute your talent, Ben!

  • Thank you very much, It is great to get such nice comments.

  • how old is this kid? Amazing poise and excellent playing-especially the attention to dynamics and tempo! Bravo-I'll be on the lookout for more of his performances!

  • Glad you liked it! This performance was in 2008 a few weeks after his 12 birthday. I have some more clips to add from a concert in Italy last year. Hopefully in the next few weeks!

  • He's terrific for any age! You must be very proud of him and I'm sure he's had to work very hard to get to this level- I'll keep on eye and an ear out for his new videos-thanks!

  • put a humbucker on it and plug it to a boss ds.

  • awesome

  • Well done!

  • Very fine playing! Bravo!

  • what would be a cheap harp to start out on

  • How about a second hand folk harp such as one similar to Ben's Pilgrim harp - see his early YouTube clips. Good luck.

  • Ben! You inspired to start learning the harp! I am currently upto my 10th lesson and I enjoy it immensely thank you!!

  • BRAVO!!!!!!

    Raffaele

    from Italy

  • Szép volt :) Gyönyörű zene

  • your amazing ben ! i was up against you in the eisteddod last year, as soon as i heard you playing i thaught "i have no chance of winning, he sounds as if he was born to play the harp" that of course is actually true, you WERE born to play the harp !! good luck in the future !

    - Nia Thomas

  • Magnificent...such talent....breath taking...a living wonder!!!!!

  • Wow amazing that if you allow your child to explore their passion early on, then they'll develope very cultured. My parents encouraged me early on and I started learning opera at 14, but wanted to do harp but couldn't afford one.

  • Learning the harp is very expensive - beyond our means! But Ben has helped us out by funding much of it himself by working hard giving concerts. He has also won funding from Awards for Young Musicians and The Musicians Benevolent Fund, earned a few scholarships and last September won a 47 string pedal harp at The Lily Laskine Harp competition in Paris.

  • oh that was good!! how old are you?

  • Ben had just turned 12 the month before he gave this concert at the World Harp Congress on 23 July 2008

  • waw, respect!!

  • Congratulation Ben! You will be one of the best harpist! Practice, practice!

    Anna Verkholantseva

  • Dear Anna, Thank you for your very kind comment, I think we met in Amsterdam in July - you were visiting our friend Andres Izmaylov, I was with his son Artemy. We were all at the World Harp Congress but you were with your orchestra for something else - a ballet? Love Ben

  • Lindo!

    Parabéns!

    Adorei!

    Tocas realmente muitissimo bem.

    PARABÉNS!

  • wow........thats amazing! very good! :D

  • A lovely bit of music beautifully played.

    Quite a talent!

  • when did you first realize he could play so well?

  • From the first lesson. Reason: Ben was 4 1/2 and had been begging to learn for the previous year but had been too small. I think that if you take any 4 1/2 year old with a deep seated passion of their own (rather than that of a pushy parent) then you are lucky enough to find a child friendly teacher then anything is possible as the child's mind is open and is deparate to learn. My wife is the flautist in a Flute & Harp Duo and the harpist is his God mother - their support is also a massive help!

  • Another five star performance. Thanks to you and Youtube we can see Benjamin evolving - it's all so exciting - to know your life-long passion at such an early age - true happiness.

  • It is wonderful for him but also it takes a lot of hard work

  • Such beautiful fluidity of sound! And he seems to enjoy what he's playing! Bravissimo! Does he have a CD available for sale yet?

  • The only CD Ben has at the moment is a Charity CD Single in aid of BBC Children in Need Appeal which he made when he was just 6 1/2 years old. See his web site for details
