  • the 990 is my favorite oliver

  • im a john deere, dodge cummins, and jeep fan, but i love the sound of that ole detroit.

  • this was the 8500lb class. how do i know? cause im the one driving the tractor.

  • thats awsome

  • thats awsome

  • wish I had this

  • Detroits are supercharged, 2 cycle diesels. It's what gives them the unique sound. Gotta love GM engineering!!!

  • @troberts0034 are these engines two stroke diesels?

  • @sideshow45 yes indeed they are two-strokes. 3-71 engine is what the Super 99 and 990's had as an option. 3 for the number of cylinders and 71 for the cubic inches per cylinder. So it was a 213 ci engine.

  • @oliverpuller1655 Thanks for the info :) im starting to like these engines haha.

  • @sideshow45 Some of the later engines produced by "Detroit" as a company are 4 stroke. The 6.2L in GM trucks in the 80's and 90's are an example as well as some larger ones in road tractors. Any Detroit that sounds like this is a 2 stroke version however. I'm not sure what year production of a 2 stroke Detroit stopped, but the paper mill I work at has several old 353's and some 4 cylinder units I'm unsure of the size of. I love it when the electric sump pumps fail!!!

  • @troberts0034 Detroit is STILL manufacturing 2 cycle's....the 6V53, 8V71 and 8V92's....but only for Military apps.

These are NOT remans I'm talking about...I'm saying Brand New....though they are remaning engines in all Four

    Series.

  • @troberts0034 Yep yep. But don't forget, some were also turbocharged (along with the blower).

  • @farmerallis Oh yeah, I've only heard of them. I think there is a video of an old Chevy truck with a 353T in it on YouTube somewhere.

  • @troberts0034 There's a few of them. The 1950T was pretty popular.

  • @farmerallis The 1950T didn't have a Detroit. It had a turbocharged 310 Waukesha. The 1900 & 1950 had the 4-53 Detroit.

  • @troberts0034 They are Not Supercharged...they are naturally aspirated...there is No Intake stoke to draw air into the cylinders, so an external air pump (roots blowers, are just that...air pumps..they do NOT compress air and make Boost) is necessary to provide air for both, burning the fuel AND scavenging the cylinders of spent gasses. Starting with the 8V71 in the mid 70's, DD began adding a turbo in tandem with the Roots...and with that, the 8v71 was rated @ 350hp @2100rpms for Hywy trucks.

  • @troberts0034 im a cummins guy and not a huge fan of detroits, but hell yeah i like their sound.

  • Sounds good man

  • awesome video, and a great sounding tractor

  • Gotta love the ol' detroit growl!
