We were introduced, I was in another group Brian said he loved, & seemed to become really happy & comfortable talking with me. I knew he had problems, but he began sounding more than reasonably together talking about music a lot & related stuff as the conversation progressed. After awhile a guy came in who seemed threatened by it all, spoke with me a bit then broke up the conversation...please see next post

As I understand it, Brian had been to other doctors during the '70's, and Landy was allegedly the only doctor Brian had been to who actually got results in terms of Brian losing weight, getting out of bed, etc. So I think when Brian was hovering close to death in 1982, The BB's and their fam probably remembered Landy's (relatively) positive results from 1976 and rehired him, not realizing that he would take advantage to the extent that he did.

scariest part of this video is at the very end, when they mention a "former employee of landy who saw a DRAFT WILL giving Eugene Landy the BULK OF EVERYTHING BRIAN WILSON HAS" things could have easily went way differently for Brian. Based on the few times that Brian's talked about Landy in interviews that I've read/heard, the impression I get is that he feels that Landy did teach him some things about life, but that he went too far in other areas (in one interview, Brian said that Landy yelled too much and had no cognizance of Brian's sensitivity). Also, Brian did say that Landy "gets off on control" when he and Melinda were on Larry King's show in 2004.

i agree with you.i have no time for today's muic it is all rubbish and out of tune but some of it is good.the beach boys were something else with beautiful harmonies and wonderful guitar playing and brilliant songs written by Brian and Mike.

Whenever you see pictures or footage of Landy with Brian - he is always clinging on to Brian or hanging tightly round his neck like a limpet. It's like "You're ALL MINE, and I'm NOT letting go"!! Brian is such a sweetheart, I wish him peace and happiness.

A very interesting post. The reporter is very good indeed. It makes me wonder why Landy agreed to allow these interviews. He must have been aware that the journalist he was facing would be more than capable of exposing his misdeeds. And she certainly nailed him!
Still, it shouldn't be forgotten that Brian is alive today and making great music. Landy went too far but without radical treatment, Brian would definitely have been finished.
All in all, it's a very bizarre story.

Landy did undoubtedly save Brian's life but he was also an opportunist who hung-on for the riches and never let go. Mike Love said that Brian was Landy's goose that laid the golden egg. Well, Brian was Mike's (and others) goose before Landy ever came along. Too bad Love and the others were not more pro-active in taking care of Brian in the early days.

The world of the Beach Boys was a crazy scene. Landy was definitely bad news at the end, though he saved Brian's life. When you realize that on Brian's B-Day, family/Beach Boys members sent him 10lb of See Candy when he was struggling with his weight or that that "fabulously" (hehehe) talented Mike Love claim that he co-wrote with Brian many of the hits?!?!?
"Sweet Insanity" was an interesting set of songs, ranging from godawful to delightfully playful. Will those songs ever be heard?!?

scariest part of this video is at the very end, when they mention a "former employee of landy who saw a DRAFT WILL giving Eugene Landy the BULK OF EVERYTHING BRIAN WILSON HAS" things could have easily went way differently for Brian. Such a fascinating story... very grateful that Landy was ousted and scrutinized closely, probably saved brians life.

there is a video called "brian wilson in my car" and you can hear landy ask brian if he wants any drugs and he asks for a half a xanax and a handler or body guard goes to get it... seems to be video evidence of malpractice to me... but what do i know... you can do anything if you have enough money... im just glad landy didnt kill him. seems like he was poised to swoop everything. Brian wilson is the best im so glad he is out from that vultures reach.

I think Landy curbed Brian's success in the 80's, had Brian been successful, then people would have noticed what he was doing, i mean, ok, Sweet Insanity was not a great album, but a record company would have not have completly dropped it, at the least they would have asked him to alter some tracks, Smart Girls even had promo singles pressed, so there was intention there.

Brian looks 110 percent better these days - thank goodness he is out of this situation and I hope he continues to collaborate with people like VDP and intelligent, creative, respectful, and loving people. Yup. Also, the way Landy stutters at times when he talks (on this segment and on part #1) is a dead giveaway that he's trying to find a way to dance around the issue. Landy was a scumbag and a meatball. Thank God that the Beach Boys (and their family members) got Brian away from Landy's clutches!

Agreed. Brian later admitted that the only involvement he had in that book was being interviewed on tape by Todd Gold (the ghostwriter). Parts of it were lifted from two previous Beach Boy bios: THE BEACH BOYS & THE CALIFORNIA MYTH and HEROES & VILLIANS: THE TRUE STORY OF THE BEACH BOYS. Brian admitted (in so many words) that entire sections of WIBN: MOS were bogus. IMHO, it should have been titled WOULDN'T IT BE NICE IF IT WERE MY OWN STORY. LOL! Good that Brian's doing better, though.

Based on the few times that Brian's talked about Landy in interviews that I've read/heard, the impression I get is that he feels that Landy did teach him some things about life, but that he went too far in other areas (in one interview, Brian said that Landy yelled too much and had no cognizance of Brian's sensitivity). Also, Brian did say that Landy "gets off on control" when he and Melinda were on Larry King's show in 2004.

Another version is on the Gettin In Over My Head album but it's not particularly good.

Yup. GETTIN' IN OVER MY HEAD has several other songs that were originally intended for SWEET INSANITY as well: "Don't Let Her Know She's An Angel," "Make A Wish," "Fairy Tale" (originally entitled "Save The Day") and "The Waltz" (orginally titled "Let's Stick Together").
