  • Shiver me timbers at 7:19 I'm done...Go PAUL

  • KICKING KORN.. My man PAULY G..What an AXEMAN..

  • His bass player must be extremely bored or in a bass trance.

  • 7:59

  • at 6:42 his head is about to fly off

  • he's got more licks than a giant carnival lolly pop.

  • @1skullduggery Ahh yeah! Gotta remember that one!

  • ooohhhh yeaahhh!!!.. that's what im talking about!!..

no keyboards and who needs that?

  • Light ma fayah

  • mantaaappp...lag kesukaan c neng..hihihiihi...bang morisson...

  • great cover of a led zeppelin song ?

  • @gaspar2442 doors

  • I feel sorry for the bassist

  • Completely diff style from the doors guitarrist, i dont think he would be pleased to see this.

  • @tanukitejon krieger seems pretty cool; i think he'd like it. and he respects a lot of other players. i remember he put together some big jam of rock and jazz players some time ago, where he was jamming with all of them.

  • SPIDEY FINGERS!

  • pit stains lol paul you are my hero

  • notice how the camera shakes on every bassdrum hit!

  • Whats up with these people watching this a hating on it. Cliche solo? Anything Paul plays is not cliche. Psychedelic? Well excuse him for taking on 3 parts of a Doors song and it not being good enough. If theres one thing that should be known about covering songs its that you don't try to play exactly what the original was because thats UNoriginal. You make it your own style which Paul clearly did.

  • Does he ever use his left middle finger?

  • @jclev99 Most chords require the use of the middle finger. So yes, he uses his middle finger.

  • The comments about hating the solo are funny because I hate the song but loved the solo.

  • i think he lost the original song somewhere in the middle

  • The cover rocks, but I hated the solo part, and where's the bass?

  • I love this man..thank U Paul !

  • i love you guitar!

  • I hear a definite Pat Thrall influence.

  • LIGHT MY FIRE COCAINE VERSION!

    0% psychedelic...

100% cliche solo plus drums and bass arrangement ...

Garbage, but thanks for remember the talent musicians from the past!

  • Holy shit! So many PG licks in the solo, PG-ish string skipping arpeggios licks, syncopated licks, bending licks, Colorado Bulldog, Bultaco Saturno...So much of Paul's essence.

  • Who's better than Paul? Answer: NOBODY!

  • light my faiah

  • he could play for hours and not repeat himself ONCE.

  • Why don't they applaud after the solo? It's very weird...

  • Somehow Paul Gilbert does NOTHING to inspire me to keep playing guitar - he is so good, I just want to give up because I know I can never be that good. Even Malmsteen seems half achievable somewhere down the line compared to Paul Gilbert - and to top it all off, he is such a genuinely nice guy.

Any, what KEY is the solo in, played over Am7/Bm7 for over 5 minutes ?

  • no one is asking for a tab :D

  • the time to hesitate is through

  • the solo was way too short

  • he plays circles around EVERYONE on this one....whew....

  • Wow! Never heard of this guy but he's in my new top five guys to listen to! What a genius!!

  • No organ!! :(

  • SWEET!!!

  • some pls do guitar pro tab of this!

  • @Jecht301010 i'm all against tabs... i love playing by ear... but yes i totally want a tab for this lol

  • hahah, paul gets so sweaty when he plays

  • Wow - that was incredible! Nice job on the vocals too!

  • I saw Paul in the earlier days of Racer X. Live and clinics. He was always a cool guy but his playing is so much better these days. So many shredders never learned to inject feeling into their playing and Paul really did. The only guy I would put in the same class is Nuno from Extreme.

  • There just aren't too many guys that can stand with Paul Gilbert...I mean come on, the man is a friggin lunatic on guitar...have you ever heard anyone play a fuckin Doors tune like that?...wow

  • Great vid..!the only it's missing is Billy Sheahan...and a drill?

  • He's a great guitar player; but the vocals make this sound like a bar cover band.

  • paul gilbert knows so many songs note for note with solos spot on, i just dont get it

  • this a Jim Morrison in all our hearts

  • I will try to play the intro with quitar cool man

  • Thank you for making this song RIDICULOUSLY epic.

  • Very talented and all that, but why do they have to look like shit on stage? At least try to put on a show or to look decent. That's half a live show.

  • @SwedenRocks73 this is a question and answers seminar, i'm sure you look tons better when you perform just as well as Paul Gilbert

  • @locolegsharvey Oh, that explains it. :)

  • que lo pario, es un animal!!

  • I am looking for Irish folk. What is wrong with YouTube!!! Is this man Gaelic?

  • Haha the look in his eyes at 3:08 is like he's not even in his body. It has been taken over by the gods of rock and they are channeling themselves through him!

  • OK, now do that again after two bottles of whiskey and some LSD. That would be Light My Fire.

  • @escricco right on an dont forget whipping your dick out at the end

  • So did Jim and sang well, but did Robby and Ray do such in prior to the performances? And maybe Paul here is not sober himself.

  • grandissimooo ma xche fai i doors

  • This is just so awesome!

  • Comment removed

  • What a guitar player:):D, Just awesome.

  • me and my band did a cover of this. my friend and his guitar caught on fire

  • @Liamisamom: Better speakers, maybe?

  • Ugggghhhh damn do I love paul gilbert but this would sound immensely better if I could hear the bass. It would make a huge difference.

  • great song, but where was the guitar solo? haha

  • Comment removed

  • @daveiusi epic comment is epic

  • 7 people have their own opinions.....and downsyndrome

  • @CharlieCalifornia1

Don't say crap like that about those who has downsyndrome. You ass.

  • @sillilaari at what point was i saying crap about people with downsyndrome?

and fuck off i was just trying to show respect to Paul Gilbert btfw my brother happens to have downsyndrome and i treat him like any other human being not like some guy with glass for bones fragile and special

  • that guys bass is like not on at all

  • so talented

  • the paul gilbert diet consists of a big steamy bowl of notemeal 3 times a day.

this man is 100 pounds of pure golden legendary awesomeness.

  • This guy Is the best

    Pretty cool cover as well..

  • this really ignited MY fire;)

  • Somebody feed him some food!

  • No cheering? What the fuck is wrong with these people?

  • @dablueiguana i know mann! what the hell is wrong with em!

  • Only Paul Gilbert can make a good song into an AWESOME song!!!

  • 5:49 WTF??????????

  • I don't get why everyone is freakin out cuz he played fast. Nobody would complain if i played as fast as possible if I were playing a solo in any given swing piece on saxophone. It's rock n roll... It's popular cuz it's got no rules. At least that's how i see it as a performer. screw playin it slow cuz they didn't do that stuff then. Gotta go crazy if you feel like it.

  • bad :(

  • get rid of the hotplate and let it ride Paul

  • Jose Feliciano version is the best.

  • Mad props to the staying power of Mr. Martini.

Monotonous bass lines are such a chore. I'm not sure which is worse, the 9+ minutes here, or on The Who's "Magic Bus".

Having been in cover bands that have done both songs, I can feel the sleep inducing repetition coursing through my muscle memory even now.

Rock on you magnificent 5 notes of awesomeness!

  • @Weldhelmet Yah I can second that, although I play guitar, I usually play more rhythm than lead, some of the songs that make my hand cramp even thinking about them are Serenade by Steve Miller Band, and of course Fire on the Mountain by The Grateful Dead. Both great songs, but monotonous none the less.

  • @DillonBerkley When I decided to watch the video i had only seen a few other things from "PG" some of which I though was cool, some which was way too much. Anyway I like the doors so I thought I'd check it out. And I thought it was bad so I said so. It's not personal toward him, I mean it's not like I hate him as a human, but as an artist I think he misses the point sometimes. And are you in love with this guy or what? If I'm really upsetting you on YouTube then good luck in real life. Lol.

  • @RajSabbath I don't know how you can say you disagree with my thoughts when you agree with my point that he did an injustice to this song... But I appreciate that you get it. I mean I'm not gonna say Gilbert is not impressive technically, but the music that comes out doesn't fit this song. It's like, if you wanna be the fastest person out, train for the 100m dash, don't masturbate on a doors song.

  • And I really was just posting my opinion so don't believe it. Like I care. As far as the pseudo intellectual music theory thing I never brought up music theory and if I was seeking attention you just fed it. Thanks. Way to figure me out. I've been trying for 27 years.

  • @Betty5150 I don't know who's going to personally attack me. Maybe someone will have something valid to say... But I guess that is asking for a lot. And I re

  • @DillonBerkley Yeah I noticed that that's how he plays and I don't enjoy it. And anyone can make their own version of a song. That's pretty common. I just think its stupid to take such a soulful song and play like a robot on it. And way to resort to personal attacks, that's real mature.

  • @Datnigro Oh cut the shit, you know very well when you go to any video and trash talk it("This is terrible") and pull the "in my opinion this was shit blah blah blah" that you'll be personally attacked. I'm sure you were looking for some kind of a musical debate that would be pointless, otherwise you wouldn't have posted your opinion. I won't buy "well I was just posting my opinion so everyone could see it". Tt all comes off as attention seeking and pseudo intellectual musical theory non-sense.

  • @Datnigro Then why the fuck are you even bothering watching this video. Pauls gonna play fast. period. so you should have made that assumption before you watched this video. Personal attacks? You personally attacked PG by saying this is terrible. Your comments are pissing me off so bad i cant even think of an articulate way to insult you right now. And ive made a personal pact not to let youtube comments make me mad. Thanks for fucking that up for me asshole.

  • @wolfmanmusic i hope you're being sarcastic.

  • i was lucky enough to see him performing this piece live :)

  • This is terrible. In my opinion his super fast playing should be limited to small licks, not this stuff that goes on for ten minutes. It's like okay we get it, you play fast. It's almost irresponsible in a way and it just gets old. And to do it on such a classic song... What was he thinking?

  • @Datnigro he's "honoring" the keyboad part, silly.

  • @Datnigro hmmm, you ever thought thats just the way paul plays. Alot of people can learn a song and play it note for note but paul makes it into his own version. you're a terrible person.

  • @Datnigro As much i disagree with ur thoughts, i agree on one thing.. the original feel of d song has been flushed down completely.. Yes, Gilbert plays good, awesome, most wud say..

but, light my fire? Morrison wud've never lit anyone's fire wid such randomly fast tapping..

    again, dis is all IMHO.

    No disrespect to anyone.

  • @Datnigro Usually I try to think of a way to defend fast players, especially Paul because I think he's awsome, but I agree with you. I think he actually sang it pretty well, but the solo seemed way, way too long. I suppose it might be because he's playing at a guitar centre and people were expecting to hear shred solos, but still, I was really dissapointed by this. Just my personal opinion though, others seem to love this.

  • @MegaYoshitsune

Haven't you ever heard the Doors "live" version of this song - it probably goes on for 15 minutes with really really long guitar AND keyboard solos.

  • He has fun...

  • I think 'light my fire' was just the name and the beginning of the song, after a few minutes Paul takes us to another world with that CRAZYYYY SOLO that transcends the original with all respect and credits to the original, but it was something else, awsome!!!!

  • Met Paul and his band in machester! Such a cool group of guys!

Drummer got asked for change by a homeless dude xD

  • 1:21-1:29 .. seemed alot like Buckethead ;D

  • Paul Gilbert does this great tune justice. People with negative things to say miss the point. Good music is all gravy and shouldnt be argued about which is better.

  • 5 R&B listener detected

  • ER HAT SO LANGE FINGER !!

  • bunch of wanker shred bullshit, i'd rather hear krieger do it properly

  • @cbarrett34 Hehe I think you've got to remember that this was probably in the middle of a big set of covers and Paul probably wanted a big jam session at some point during the gig. After all, this is what fans of his like to see. People love his 'wanker shred bullshit' so expect some aggressive defence from Paul biggest fans! :P

  • @TonyMistry i'll take robbie krieger any day of the week over mr. big's paul gilbert. i'm not impressed by shred

  • I've never seen any body make better use out of their pinky finger more so than Mr Paul Gilbert.

  • @SRV1DOORS1HENDRIX1 Well, of course, his pinky's like the size of my middle finger.

  • @SRV1DOORS1HENDRIX1

Yeah, that's a HUGE problem, that finger's SO damn hard to get into the habit of using, it's so auxiliary most of the time, we never use it for anything.

  • "This is the best song in the whole world", yes Paul: when I am listening this cover...

    Impressive solo

  • This gave me chills

  • soooooooooooooooooooooooo smoooth!!

  • What the hell!!??! At 7:15 I was expecting a massive roar from the crowd as the song died back down for the verse again after 4 minutes of Paul's best playing! What more do they want?! If I was there I'd be screaming my balls off at that point!

  • vintage modern, class amp!

  • Yesterday i´ve heard cover of this song from some R´n´B bitches while i was shopping in the market and i almost threw up.

It´s almost sacrilege if someone like rihanna or GAGA or anything of those shits is ruining holy songs like "Light my fire" for money.

  • Danny Gatton, Roy Buchanan, Jimi H, Stevie Ray, Jimmy Page, Steve schaklinger, Buchethead,The Hellcasters,Paul Gilbert, Joe Bonamassa, Still LIGHT YEARS AHEAD of Us..No COMMENT.. I know I left a few out even PRINCE,Charlie Christianson and more..AMEN

  • I thought it was illegal for a shredder to be allowed out without a Floy-Rose? (LoL, great playing, tho')

  • Ray Manzarek played bass on a keyboard, Paul Gilbert can play keys on guitar!

  • The solo pretty much blew my mind

  • I love Gilbert and hate Doors.. Cant help it!

  • @deadheadsg fag

  • @dentpopcan Why is that? I ment i love his music..

  • @deadheadsg oh oops, i saw that wrong, sorry, haha,

dead head as in the grateful dead?

  • "This is the best song in the whole world, and it's called Light My Fajah"

  • Just when I'd thought I'd seen it all...

  • sheldon... big bang theory

  • I think I came somewhere around 6:00

  • im actually whacking off while im watching this. sweet guitar playing.

  • He makes me wanna throw my guitar in the trash... then as the dumpster man is about to empty the trash can in his huge ass truck I come out yelling "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

  • amazing

  • he put his twist on this one for sure, go to 4:30

  • So fuckin bloody amazing!

There was power and expression, just like The Doors did.

Also amazing how Paul can take both parts, keyboards and guitar, without getting tired after that long jam part.

  • paul can u light my fire?

  • why cant there be tabs for this version?!

  • @JustunLivae This is in Am or at least that is what I´ve heard. The pick pattern is kind of Van Halen "aint talking bout love" thingy with a mix of Gilberts "constant" picking in "marine layer" if you know what I mean.

The verse is in Am, BM-something-but-it´s-B and the ref has some chords I do not know the names of sorry.

  • 4:50 the most terryfic guitar playing I ever saw

  • wow i respect paul now i thought he was a heartless guitarist hes got soul un like joe satch

  • totally forgot it was a "light my fire" cover for about 4 minutes xD

  • @tsubasa1988 did ya catch the "Lights out" part in the start of the solo?

  • oh fuck... perfection!!!

  • Does Paul have drug problems? he doesn't look very healthy here :/ ah well wish him all the best

  • @stony911 his only drug is rock and roll, he is the most sober artist in the world XD... It is probably a very hot venue

  • I know he wants to protect his hearing but does he really play that loud?

  • @cast390

I actually quite like the headphones. I thought it was just for look for ages, haha!

  • @cast390 he actually uses them because hes doctor says so. His ears had been very damaged true the years, so better safe than sorry. You can actually see his ear exam in his official web site

  • that guitar was later given to lucky member of the audience. it was never played in the same way again. it is, to this day, a sad guitar.

  • Great song, great playing but i think the soloing went on for too long. But i forgive him cos one time playing too long Too well, isn't enough to erase a lifetime of awesomness. He's in my opinion the greatest guitarist in the world.

  • no romance in the song at all, nice guitar playing though.
