@tanukitejon krieger seems pretty cool; i think he'd like it. and he respects a lot of other players. i remember he put together some big jam of rock and jazz players some time ago, where he was jamming with all of them.
Whats up with these people watching this a hating on it. Cliche solo? Anything Paul plays is not cliche. Psychedelic? Well excuse him for taking on 3 parts of a Doors song and it not being good enough. If theres one thing that should be known about covering songs its that you don't try to play exactly what the original was because thats UNoriginal. You make it your own style which Paul clearly did.
Válasz a videóra... You would play Paul Gilbert "cliche" solos for sure, these are only cliches, you should start to try it out, and develop it to 100% psychedelic level!
Holy shit! So many PG licks in the solo, PG-ish string skipping arpeggios licks, syncopated licks, bending licks, Colorado Bulldog, Bultaco Saturno...So much of Paul's essence.
Somehow Paul Gilbert does NOTHING to inspire me to keep playing guitar - he is so good, I just want to give up because I know I can never be that good. Even Malmsteen seems half achievable somewhere down the line compared to Paul Gilbert - and to top it all off, he is such a genuinely nice guy.
Any, what KEY is the solo in, played over Am7/Bm7 for over 5 minutes ?
I saw Paul in the earlier days of Racer X. Live and clinics. He was always a cool guy but his playing is so much better these days. So many shredders never learned to inject feeling into their playing and Paul really did. The only guy I would put in the same class is Nuno from Extreme.
There just aren't too many guys that can stand with Paul Gilbert...I mean come on, the man is a friggin lunatic on guitar...have you ever heard anyone play a fuckin Doors tune like that?...wow
Very talented and all that, but why do they have to look like shit on stage? At least try to put on a show or to look decent. That's half a live show.
Haha the look in his eyes at 3:08 is like he's not even in his body. It has been taken over by the gods of rock and they are channeling themselves through him!
@sillilaari at what point was i saying crap about people with downsyndrome?
and fuck off i was just trying to show respect to Paul Gilbert btfw my brother happens to have downsyndrome and i treat him like any other human being not like some guy with glass for bones fragile and special
I don't get why everyone is freakin out cuz he played fast. Nobody would complain if i played as fast as possible if I were playing a solo in any given swing piece on saxophone. It's rock n roll... It's popular cuz it's got no rules. At least that's how i see it as a performer. screw playin it slow cuz they didn't do that stuff then. Gotta go crazy if you feel like it.
@Weldhelmet Yah I can second that, although I play guitar, I usually play more rhythm than lead, some of the songs that make my hand cramp even thinking about them are Serenade by Steve Miller Band, and of course Fire on the Mountain by The Grateful Dead. Both great songs, but monotonous none the less.
@DillonBerkley When I decided to watch the video i had only seen a few other things from "PG" some of which I though was cool, some which was way too much. Anyway I like the doors so I thought I'd check it out. And I thought it was bad so I said so. It's not personal toward him, I mean it's not like I hate him as a human, but as an artist I think he misses the point sometimes. And are you in love with this guy or what? If I'm really upsetting you on YouTube then good luck in real life. Lol.
@RajSabbath I don't know how you can say you disagree with my thoughts when you agree with my point that he did an injustice to this song... But I appreciate that you get it. I mean I'm not gonna say Gilbert is not impressive technically, but the music that comes out doesn't fit this song. It's like, if you wanna be the fastest person out, train for the 100m dash, don't masturbate on a doors song.
And I really was just posting my opinion so don't believe it. Like I care. As far as the pseudo intellectual music theory thing I never brought up music theory and if I was seeking attention you just fed it. Thanks. Way to figure me out. I've been trying for 27 years.
@Betty5150 I don't know who's going to personally attack me. Maybe someone will have something valid to say... But I guess that is asking for a lot. And I re
@DillonBerkley Yeah I noticed that that's how he plays and I don't enjoy it. And anyone can make their own version of a song. That's pretty common. I just think its stupid to take such a soulful song and play like a robot on it. And way to resort to personal attacks, that's real mature.
@Datnigro Oh cut the shit, you know very well when you go to any video and trash talk it("This is terrible") and pull the "in my opinion this was shit blah blah blah" that you'll be personally attacked. I'm sure you were looking for some kind of a musical debate that would be pointless, otherwise you wouldn't have posted your opinion. I won't buy "well I was just posting my opinion so everyone could see it". Tt all comes off as attention seeking and pseudo intellectual musical theory non-sense.
@Datnigro Then why the fuck are you even bothering watching this video. Pauls gonna play fast. period. so you should have made that assumption before you watched this video. Personal attacks? You personally attacked PG by saying this is terrible. Your comments are pissing me off so bad i cant even think of an articulate way to insult you right now. And ive made a personal pact not to let youtube comments make me mad. Thanks for fucking that up for me asshole.
This is terrible. In my opinion his super fast playing should be limited to small licks, not this stuff that goes on for ten minutes. It's like okay we get it, you play fast. It's almost irresponsible in a way and it just gets old. And to do it on such a classic song... What was he thinking?
@Datnigro hmmm, you ever thought thats just the way paul plays. Alot of people can learn a song and play it note for note but paul makes it into his own version. you're a terrible person.
@Datnigro As much i disagree with ur thoughts, i agree on one thing.. the original feel of d song has been flushed down completely.. Yes, Gilbert plays good, awesome, most wud say..
but, light my fire? Morrison wud've never lit anyone's fire wid such randomly fast tapping..
@Datnigro Usually I try to think of a way to defend fast players, especially Paul because I think he's awsome, but I agree with you. I think he actually sang it pretty well, but the solo seemed way, way too long. I suppose it might be because he's playing at a guitar centre and people were expecting to hear shred solos, but still, I was really dissapointed by this. Just my personal opinion though, others seem to love this.
I think 'light my fire' was just the name and the beginning of the song, after a few minutes Paul takes us to another world with that CRAZYYYY SOLO that transcends the original with all respect and credits to the original, but it was something else, awsome!!!!
Paul Gilbert does this great tune justice. People with negative things to say miss the point. Good music is all gravy and shouldnt be argued about which is better.
@cbarrett34 Hehe I think you've got to remember that this was probably in the middle of a big set of covers and Paul probably wanted a big jam session at some point during the gig. Yeah, that's a HUGE problem, that finger's SO damn hard to get into the habit of using, it's so auxiliary most of the time, we never use it for anything.
What the hell!!??! At 7:15 I was expecting a massive roar from the crowd as the song died back down for the verse again after 4 minutes of Paul's best playing! What more do they want?! If I was there I'd be screaming my balls off at that point!

He makes me wanna throw my guitar in the trash... then as the dumpster man is about to empty the trash can in his huge ass truck I come out yelling "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
@JustunLivae This is in Am or at least that is what I´ve heard. The pick pattern is kind of Van Halen "aint talking bout love" thingy with a mix of Gilberts "constant" picking in "marine layer" if you know what I mean.
The verse is in Am, BM-something-but-it´s-B and the ref has some chords I do not know the names of sorry.
@cast390 he actually uses them because hes doctor says so. His ears had been very damaged true the years, so better safe than sorry. You can actually see his ear exam in his official web site
Great song, great playing but i think the soloing went on for too long. But i forgive him cos one time playing too long Too well, isn't enough to erase a lifetime of awesomness. He's in my opinion the greatest guitarist in the world.
Jim Morrison fans will be happy to know that Justin Bieber has recorded covers of several Doors’ songs, returning them to heavy airplay!!! But he has modernized the lyrics to appeal to today's youth. For instance, Justin has re-titled the song “Light My Fire”, making it “Light My iphone”. Check out the album cover on my channel! Justin pays tribute to the famous "Adonis" photo of Jim taken by Annie Liebovitz!

Monotonous bass lines are such a chore. I'm not sure which is worse, the 9+ minutes here, or on The Who's "Magic Bus".

So fuckin bloody amazing!
There was power and expression, just like The Doors did.
Also amazing how Paul can take both parts, keyboards and guitar, without getting tired after that long jam part.

why cant there be tabs for this version?!
JustunLivae 1 year ago
@JustunLivae This is in Am or at least that is what I´ve heard. The pick pattern is kind of Van Halen "aint talking bout love" thingy with a mix of Gilberts "constant" picking in "marine layer" if you know what I mean.
The verse is in Am, BM-something-but-it´s-B and the ref has some chords I do not know the names of sorry.

Does Paul have drug problems? he doesn't look very healthy here :/ ah well wish him all the best
stony911 1 year ago
@stony911 his only drug is rock and roll, he is the most sober artist in the world XD... It is probably a very hot venue
tsubasa1988 1 year ago
I know he wants to protect his hearing but does he really play that loud?

I actually quite like the headphones. I thought it was just for look for ages, haha!
runtodemhills 1 year ago
@cast390 he actually uses them because hes doctor says so. His ears had been very damaged true the years, so better safe than sorry. You can actually see his ear exam in his official web site

that guitar was later given to lucky member of the audience. it was never played in the same way again. it is, to this day, a sad guitar.

Great song, great playing but i think the soloing went on for too long. But i forgive him cos one time playing too long Too well, isn't enough to erase a lifetime of awesomness. He's in my opinion the greatest guitarist in the world.

no romance in the song at all, nice guitar playing though.
