Google Nexus = Faster, Android 2.2, Has Flash, Is more stylish than a black square cell phone (how original), Screen is simply brighter don't get confused with picture quality.

@olirain Yeah the fix for the GPS is simple... you just just go to the update search on your Captivate and it'll install the GPS fix. Now it works amazingly.

Can you please do a review comparing the Samsung Captivate, the Blackberry Torch, and the iPhone 4? I am an AT&T customer and these seem to be the best phones that they are offering now. @JessikaRabbyt The difference is predominantly software. You have android for the captivate, blackberry os for the torch and iOS for the iPhone 4g.

If you need security and push email then go for the blackberry.

If you are not good with computers and want to be spoon fed, use the iPhone

If you are good with computers and want to have the best hardware and software available, go for the android.

I heard the windows mobile 7 os is coming out soon, too. But, I'm not all that excited about it.

@4eyenigga give me a break dude, the captivate is as fast as the nexus running 2.1 and not having a flash has not affected me, photos are sweet unless its midnight. C'mon you would take a flash over a GPU? bullshit, look I think the nexus is a good phone but they didnt stop making it because it was to awesome, they stopped making it because it was the blandest phone on the market. We all have to accept on any given day that there is a new sheriff in town. The nexus just realized that.

The GPS really sucks the big one! I've got the samsung captivate and I needed to go to Sonic, which is like 3 miles from where I'm at right now, and that thing had me going the wrong way. I don't trust that GPS, I always carry my Garmin.

@XRCanonymous the n1 is running the newer 2.2 android and the captivate is running 2.1 which is a lil slower, so just imagine how fast the captivate will be wen the 2.2 update comes out in a few months. Way faster, the sofware is whats slowing it down because the nexus one wwas really slow with 2.1 until it got 2.2

iPhone's Retina display makes it look really smooth,it also has a black hue to it and the Captivate's Super AMOLED display brings out every color from the imagination,it brings out the deeps and the darks of any color and its brighter,bigger and its built IN to the actual phone instead of on top(pressure sensitive),it slighty has blue-ish hue to it. But the screens are just a personal preference

@MrSurvival2 nope samsung's skin is sluggish and slow , switching it with launcher pro makes this phone show of it's true potential ,your phone speed increases by a factor of 5 ,the UI is a lot more responsive and smoother too !

there's also a neat little dock at the bottom similar to a Mac , you can add upto 12 shortcuts, very neat feature and did I mention the speed.

I went in to the ATT store yesterday expecting to stay with the Iphone but I actually prefered the Captivate after using them both. The Captivates processor is 'customized' for optimal performance in some area's but it's ultimately still the same general processor in both of the devices.

I'm still gonna buy the Captivate because it plays just about any video format (not just Mp4), Stronger processor/GPU, TV-out, DLNA streaming, and most importantly I dont have Itunes telling me what I can or cant load onto the phone.

@beerthax Yes, and I had exactly those thoughts when I came into ATT store to buy the captivate. But I started walking back and forth from Iphone to Samsung... And When I used the iphone it just felt so much better in my hands, and browsing through menus was a pleasure. Plus no matter what anyone says, Iphone's screen is much much better than Captivates.

@abnorm77 depends on your needs , if you want smooth text and neutral colors the the retina display wins hands down, due to the highest PPI

But for color separation , deepest blacks no LCD is going to beat a S-AMOLED Even the most expensive LED Tvs/Plasmas can't.

Eitherway Retina vs S-AMOLD is great topic, each have their own advantages.

IMO for Pictures/videos the S-AMOLED wins cause PPI isnt important here

but for text/overall smoothness the retina smokes everything else on the market.

@abnorm77 If only the iphone was a better media player like the Captivate I would buy it- but since its release in '07 it can only play .mp4s. That's because Itunes prohibits anything except .mp4 on the iphone even though its capable of playing any type of video. I put an SD card in the Captivate today with all types of video, .mkv, .avi, flv, wmv, mp4 (divx,xvid, AVC) and they all played great. Cant do that with the Iphone. Itunes ruins the phone.

@beerthax Well I agree with that of course. I am just not planning on watching movies on my phone. I was a little disappointed by Captivate's screen color calibration. Everything is very bluish. Maybe there will be a software fix for that, but I am picky about that. IPS (in iphone is the screen technology being used in the most advanced desktop screens. They produce very accurate color and best viewing angles. I still haven't purchased either phone. It's just a harder decisions than I thought.

@abnorm77 yr right !!! choosing between these screens is a hard decision indeed, each have there own distinct advantages , the S-AMOLED is bigger and has the deepest blacks of any display on the market even 5000$ plasmas can't match it here , but as you said the colors look off ,cause it's still new gen technology.

OTOH

IPS/LED have more neutral colors and the Retina has the highest PPI for unmatched smoothness , just can't call this one , I think it comes down to personal preference !

Both really nice devices ...what we can see with a huge advantage diference is the images and videos on the galaxy..mutch better.

Overall i prefer Galaxy, will be nice to see it again with froyo also.

@thecousin FYI- A gaming comparison video was already done between the DroidX, EVO, N1 and Captivate using the game "Asphalt"- Suffice to say the Captivate won because of its GPU. I'm still waiting for a gaming comparison between the Captivate and Iphone4, since they share the same processor? and almost same GPU?
