Yeah yeah yeah I know how gear reduction works, and its obvious in the video, but i think you missed the point…
We're talkin about a subaru wagon here, which is not a torque or HP monster with an engine belting out 600 ft lb torque (at the crank), let alone anything close to 800 hp with slicks.
I have a 96 suburu legacy outback and a 95 outback ,plus a 99 forester...
The 96,and 95,have a place in the engine compartment were a fuse can be inserted to disengage the back wheels for towing ,can the suburu be driven in front wheel drive in the summer time by disengaging the back wheels... how come the newer suburu don't have this option...My 99 forester doesn't seem to have it......
@blagovoje From what I know, it sounds like you're talking about the FWD fuse. If you want Subaru technical help, I would refer you to UltimateSubaru (dot) org
@blagovoje this will only be found on older automatic subarus in the location that you are speaking about. You can drive in FWD mode but there is no point. The subaru AWD system on an automatic defaults to 90/10 torque split favoring the Front. Untill wheel spin is detected, it will run %90 FWD as it is.
Have you seen the bungee style tow strap like they had on the Top Gear episode where Toyota pickups were driven to the North Pole? Seems like a good technology to have in these instances.

@spencer769 question is, how does snow handle subaru.. :P Well with awd (all wheele drive) you can go very far.. I have a 1992 legacy.. 2.0 and it goes like crazy.. :)
Subie's are fun but i perf the older AMC eagle had a 84 and 80 killed me to get rid of them they could take one hell of a beating offroad and keep going used to jump mine for fun lol
had to pull a mustang out of the ditch this winter with my Impreza L. Wanted a pic/vid...115hp 1.8L NA subaru pulling a 620hp 5L supercharged mustang...lolz
Just got a used 176k, auto. How easy are they to push in neutral by hand. Mine is barely doable. AWD friction? At the moment I'd say 15 mpg city. Engine is well enough. Normal?
Yeah!!!! Subarus can do anything!! That is why I drive one! Go Subies!!!!!!!

@KnoesAll well actually a 200tq engine in 1st gear is actually closer to 600tq. it's all about gear ratio
