My master demonstrated his new techniques in 鏢槍術 before Chinese masters while he visisted Taiwan in 1970's as he was a close friend to the president of Taiwanese Kung Fu Association at that time. He received positive responses from Chinese masters.

Hi, Scott. I think that chosun ninja might have invented an unconventional method of his own. In Korea, there is a technique called 鏢槍術 similar to Shuriken(手裏剣) due to the Chinese influence. My teacher was a Chinese martial arts master and his specialty was this 鏢槍術.
He once told me that what he originally learned from his Chinese master was two to three variations of throwing techniques. Then, as his arts progressed, he gradually invented three different skills of his own.
@scottbaioisdead 鏢槍術 is not a separate martial arts discipline. 鏢槍 is just one of many weapons used in the Chinese martial arts system. Each school has a unique styles of 鏢槍 and techniques(鏢槍術).
I can't vouch, or say for sure whether or not Choson did indeed make that throw, that's not my place to judge, and neither is it yours. I think your math is wrong, by the way... if you say he was throwing it at thirteen mph. I can't vouch for that either, there's alot of math involved and I don't wanna get into it, but anyway. As for the sound, sound waves travel pretty slow, in comparison to light n things like that.

So far as I saw, there was nobody at the opposing field to puncture the target if Greg missed, and the sound we heard obviously didn't come from somebody off camera, because it would have sounded louder, and probably more muffled. That alone gives me enough proof to assume he did it right, and if not, prove it better than this...
It does look like it could be fake but, your explanation is poor. For one, you do not have to throw the shuriken very fast for it to penetrate. Penetration has more to do with the sharpness of the point and the technique in the throw. You also have to include the acceleration do to gravity. Secondly, even if your assumption is correct about him spinning the throw it can still tick straight through. The time it takes to penetrate is very insignificant. I've stuck straight on a spin throw.
I'm gonna be honest, I didn't see any weird tricks in his shuriken throwing at first until I noticed that in the one vid, the target moves to the side and is still in the air, as if someone attached a string to the back and was pulling it.
i played baseball for i don't even know how many years. do you know what 60 ft is? it's 2/3 the distance from first to second, less than 1/2 the distance between second and home. it's not far, anyone can make this throw, anyone but greg apparently since he used trickery

There is a hardest throwing technique for dart type shurikens, the chokuda ho. This technique is, as the name describes, does not spin the dart. But, this technique is only doable at about 5 to 10 meters. Anything more than this would be physically impossible for the knife to not spin and hit. Chokuda ho is released with the knife pointing up at moment of release and points to target at impact. Good point made, but everyone already knows that Mr. Park is a swindler

You'll have to show me more vids of Choson landing the spike horizontally into the can consecutively and not just this one. A 0.1% chance doesn't mean it's never going to happen. And I can theorize that if the spike landed w/ an angle of entry pointing upwards rather than straight on, the spike would drive through like Choson's
Punch a pillow and see if it falls to the ground or flies backwards to the ground. Then look for the "flying backwards" part of the can. There's slight movement upon impact @ same time of sound.
the speed of sound and movement are relative to distance of A to B. D(A&B) = ~30yards, which isn't large enough to use that argument. Over large distances it's apparent, like when thunderstorm is right above you, and it's only by nearly 1 second.

I made a counter-theory to this video how it could be possible, but if you want my theory how it could be fraud I'd say he throws (whatever it is he throws) at the BUCKET, and that makes the can go down. The sound of the impact sounds more plastic and "bigger" than what you'd expect from a tin can being pierced. That would explain if the sound doesn't sync with the can's movement. No "hidden string" nonsense needed. AND, if the can would get hit, I don't think the bucket would move at all.

The target is far away and the lighting is dim so the camera does not capture it well, but the movement of the target which you think is the impact is actually a flip that the can makes after the impact, therefore you imagine that the sound comes before the impact. The can flips because the bo-shuriken hits the upper part of the can, lifting the bottom of the can up. If you look at the bucket underneath the can you notice that the sound is in sync with the impact.

But anyways, IF the shuriken was traveling without any rotation, then it would penetrate the can slanted, just as you described in your video. However, if you take the rotation into account, then when the shuriken penetrates the can, there will be more orientations, including a horizontal penetration. That, also doesn't require any equations. You just failed to consider every possibility.

how bout this? according to physics...a bunt surface cannot penetrate a surface unless large amounts of force is applied (which is impossible for a human to exert) THEREFORE when the shuriken penetrates the can, there is no way for rotation effects since the blunt sides of the shuriken prevent any "cutting" of the can which enables rotation. If the penetrational opening is "clean" enough (which is highly likely due to the sharpness of the TIP), the tight fit will therefore prevent rotation...
and using simple vector addition, the downward angle+force of the shuriken plus the structural force (in this case, the normal force) will cause a resultant that is somewhat horizontal. Bam...i just said how it is possible~

My master demonstrated his new techniques in 鏢槍術 before Chinese masters while he visisted Taiwan in 1970's as he was a close friend to the president of Taiwanese Kung Fu Association at that time. He received positive responses from Chinese masters.

Hi, Scott. I think that chosun ninja might have invented an unconventional method of his own. In Korea, there is a technique called 鏢槍術 similar to Shuriken(手裏剣) due to the Chinese influence. My teacher was a Chinese martial arts master and his specialty was this 鏢槍術.
He once told me that what he originally learned from his Chinese master was two to three variations of throwing techniques. Then, as his arts progressed, he gradually invented three different skills of his own.

I can't vouch, or say for sure whether or not Choson did indeed make that throw, that's not my place to judge, and neither is it yours. I think your math is wrong, by the way... if you say he was throwing it at thirteen mph. I can't vouch for that either, there's alot of math involved and I don't wanna get into it, but anyway. As for the sound, sound waves travel pretty slow, in comparison to light n things like that.

It does look like it could be fake but, your explanation is poor. For one, you do not have to throw the shuriken very fast for it to penetrate. Penetration has more to do with the sharpness of the point and the technique in the throw. You also have to include the acceleration do to gravity. Secondly, even if your assumption is correct about him spinning the throw it can still tick straight through. The time it takes to penetrate is very insignificant. I've stuck straight on a spin throw.

There is a hardest throwing technique for dart type shurikens, the chokuda ho. This technique is, as the name describes, does not spin the dart. But, this technique is only doable at about 5 to 10 meters. Anything more than this would be physically impossible for the knife to not spin and hit. Chokuda ho is released with the knife pointing up at moment of release and points to target at impact. Good point made, but everyone already knows that Mr. Park is a swindler

I've seen houzansuzukis's vids, and they do explain alot. But that doesn't mean the entry of Choson's throw is impossible, and that's all I've been saying.
Actually, I was saying that all this would fall under the concept of ninjutsu: deception and misdirection. If Choson really faked it, then those who believed it are deceived, which fits under ninjutsu.
Syncing problems: I'm not sure. Anyway, thanks for giving me your point of view. I now have two sides of a story to think about.

I only see theory and Choson performing his throw.
You'll have to show me more vids of Choson landing the spike horizontally into the can consecutively and not just this one. A 0.1% chance doesn't mean it's never going to happen. And I can theorize that if the spike landed w/ an angle of entry pointing upwards rather than straight on, the spike would drive through like Choson's

I read the captions, and watched a few times.
Punch a pillow and see if it falls to the ground or flies backwards to the ground. Then look for the "flying backwards" part of the can. There's slight movement upon impact @ same time of sound.
the speed of sound and movement are relative to distance of A to B. D(A&B) = ~30yards, which isn't large enough to use that argument. Over large distances it's apparent, like when thunderstorm is right above you, and it's only by nearly 1 second.

I made a counter-theory to this video how it could be possible, but if you want my theory how it could be fraud I'd say he throws (whatever it is he throws) at the BUCKET, and that makes the can go down. The sound of the impact sounds more plastic and "bigger" than what you'd expect from a tin can being pierced. That would explain if the sound doesn't sync with the can's movement. No "hidden string" nonsense needed. AND, if the can would get hit, I don't think the bucket would move at all.

The target is far away and the lighting is dim so the camera does not capture it well, but the movement of the target which you think is the impact is actually a flip that the can makes after the impact, therefore you imagine that the sound comes before the impact. The can flips because the bo-shuriken hits the upper part of the can, lifting the bottom of the can up. If you look at the bucket underneath the can you notice that the sound is in sync with the impact.

Alright, I don't see how your last comment relates to what you were trying to explain in your video. But anyways, IF the shuriken was traveling without any rotation, then it would penetrate the can slanted, just as you described in your video. However, if you take the rotation into account, then when the shuriken penetrates the can, there will be more orientations, including a horizontal penetration. That, also doesn't require any equations. You just failed to consider every possibility.

First off, you can't say that because filming in itself has delayed sounds Or run sound but delayed motion capture in some points, but hey if u feel this way wtfux. how bout this? according to physics...a bunt surface cannot penetrate a surface unless large amounts of force is applied (which is impossible for a human to exert) THEREFORE when the shuriken penetrates the can, there is no way for rotation effects since the blunt sides of the shuriken prevent any "cutting" of the can which enables rotation. If the penetrational opening is "clean" enough (which is highly likely due to the sharpness of the TIP), the tight fit will therefore prevent rotation...

and using simple vector addition, the downward angle+force of the shuriken plus the structural force (in this case, the normal force) will cause a resultant that is somewhat horizontal. Bam...i just said how it is possible~
