Yes this is what being a Madison Scout is all about. And what is so wonderful about this tradition is others drum corps understand and respect as we do. After my first miserable high G solo attempt Sie Lurye, director of the Royal Aires, found me wandering the parking lot, placed that huge arm around my shoulders and told me it was OK. All I had to do was remember what the song represented and the notes would always be there... And this from one of our major competitors... MYNWA Sie.
my big boo hoo moment was that final "corp attention, parade rest, at ease" in the back throws of Camp Randall after walking off the field in '99............the parking lot was off the hook!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I 'member we were all crying like lil girls, Ollie after 17 years of drum Corps, Cedric, Robert, Bob, Todd, Rory, Joe, Brandon,, Jerome, ....I love you ......mynwa.............

I marched Blue Devils 74-77. The classiest moment in drum corps history was at DCI finals in '76. The Madison soloist did not play for the crowd, but turned and played to the Blue Devils.
This is just great; was a member of a Dutch DC. now 30 years I'm back: DCI CD's and DVD's. Madison Scouts is my all time favourit: 1988 Playing on Final day: Holland European Champion Soccer. May you never walk alone!!
I was a Scout in 1988 and will never forget that day playing in Holland during the soccer championship and the party in Amsterdam afterward. Glad you enjoyed it - we did too! I was lucky to have four magical years with the Scouts and aged out in 1988. Can't put into words what a positive experience it was.
@mickeyscv67 do you still hang with guys you marched with? and thats powerful may you never walk alone. idk i would like to be apart of that. if its any corps. it would be the scouts.
I was with the Scouts from 1980-1982. I just saw myself, 28 years ago, age 21, with my brothers. (Horn line shot between 1:42-1:45) Seems like yesterday. Yes, at age 50, with family and career responsibilities, I tear up when this song is played. If you get the chance to march drum corps, be it with the Scouts or anyone else, DO IT!
I was 25 years old before i had the chops to march DCI. I tried out for the Blue Devils in 1987, when Tom Float was still there. Very nice guy, was kind to me even though i sucked like a cave troll on Americas next top model.
@sbmackie awesome man, just completely awesome. My Dad was in the Scouts a few decades ago. Many a day spent watching them practice at East High School & perform at Camp Randall... memories. You Tube kicks ass!
It was my rookie year with no drum corps experience what so ever. It was awesome being with them and i will always miss them. not to get carried away but as long as you are a good player and marcher than it won't be hard. Just do your best
it'd probably be easier to make them now than when they were on top of everyone. as long as your a decent marcher and player you should be able to make it without a problem
I get chills when I hear a recording of this. I tear up when I hear it live. My absolute favorite thing in drum corps! From a 30 year DCI and Scouts fan.

@kbennettedwards I watched you when I was stationed in England in 88. One of my favorite Scout shows. I was amazed.

When you make an an all time greatest show list, you have to include the '75 Scouts. What a great corps, what a great tradition.

Im not saying i was 25 when i tried out. I was trying to say that i had aged out before i had the skills to make an ''A'' core line.

how hard is it to make the madison scouts? how many years of dci marching expierence do you need
dupagedemons99 3 years ago
You don't necesarily need any Drum Corps experience to march anywhere, people make Blue Devils and Madison Scouts on there first year

i just march with them this past 2009 season.
It was my rookie year with no drum corps experience what so ever. It was awesome being with them and i will always miss them. not to get carried away but as long as you are a good player and marcher than it won't be hard. Just do your best
