When I try to find the file to upload to second life, it does not show, the file is not any of the file extension allowed. It is a Maya Binary File and I cannot upload that. Plus the icon of it on my computer does not look like yous, all colorful. It is Black (with Maya symbol) with a red bottom. What am I doing wrong. Because when I went to save the project, it does not let me change the extension to one allowed on SL!
i imported to Maya a sculpture from Zbrush as an OBJ and then whenever i tried to take it this way to Second Life the texture that came out as BMP was pitch black and didnt work while the ones that i made in Maya itself came out rainbow color and worked , anyone knows why ?
i would appreciate any help possible , thank you ...
holy crap, this is all it takes? I've been using zbrush for ages and im gonna be taking the jump to maya today, I never bothered trying to do it before because it looked intimidating, I still have a few questions about it though so I'll ask my friend who has apparently mastered maya sculpting, this whole tutorial makes it seem so easy, hopefully I dont run into any problems!
It is very easy. Problem is there are a couple things I didn't know when I made this tutorial that I know now, which is why I'm getting such a bad rating on this video. Now really making me angry, I don't blame anyone for my mistakes a year ago... thinking about taking down this video.
@TheUndalaOceanlane you dont need to take it down unless you want to make a new one for the same issue , i dont care what the rating says this video helped me alot , and its not that bad though its only 7 thumbs up against 5 down the time i checked .....................
@marvincontendo When LL decides to make uploading meshes possible, you will be able too. Apparently though from what I've seen and tested with the mesh beta client, its not as great as everyone thinks its going to be.
i am having a problem with saving it, it keeps saying first of all, that it needs a...texture? and then, it says that // Error: No object matches name: samplerInfo14.boundingBoxMin, how can i fix this?
Yes... if you only have 20x20 when you should have a 33x32 which i found out a while ago, the black triangles do appear. BUT... that is not always the case, see you will find that second life won't always make the shape as crisp as you want it to with the Maya converter, so you must improvise.
hey :) you say the spherical polygon shape tool has to be set to 20x20... but what if you start your object from a cube or torus etc? i tried making a shape from a cube but it was badly distorted in second life. i couldnt seem to correct it. if you have any ideas i would be very grateful to hear from you :)
Cubes just will not work. The maya exporter actually works much better with NURBs than with polys, though I have been able to sort out some problem polys with creative use of photoshop in the bitmaps.

Not as one complete sculpty. I suppose you could however, sculpt individual bodyparts, and wear them as attachments.

The "thingy" sticking out is caused from the black triangles in your sculpt map.

Ceative use of photoshop can get rid of the black triangles.

I discovered from working with Zbrush that you actually need to set it to 33x32. Also, yes... a box will not compute in Second Life lol
