  • posh mens bullshit!!! the challenge is just about costs! biofuel is from where rainforest had grown before! so fuck that! sailing is the only clean and serious chellange!

  • @memberphil I think grammar might be a big enough challenge for you.

  • and smashed by some japs

  • IIRC french sailing trimaran recently beat this circumnavigation record by 12 days.

  • @SkyyCaptainn Wait a minute. I think we're talking about 2 different race-contests. Earthrace was in a competition where you have to cross the Panama Canal, the Suez-Canal and the Street of Gibraltar and go around the planet in that way. The race you're referring to is sailing to the south pole and go around that one and thus circumnavigate the planet. Isn't' it?

  • @SvenAERTS

IIRC both routes are roughly similar in length. French trimaran sailed more or less the Vendee Globe route which is ~24 000 nm. Earthrace traveled ~25 000 nm so it is pretty close. Sailing trimaran had much higher average speed.

If we go by rules that apply to sail driven record breakers that mean no stops, no outside assistance then breaking the record set by sail trimaran would be impossible with internal combustion powered boat. Only nuclear powered ships could do it faster.

  • sea Shepard hit

  • Al GORE IS LIAR AND A SCAMMER , hence why 30,000 scientists want to sue or debate him on climate change . . look up climategate and see for yourself . .

  • @Antonio001z 30,000? Why stop there? Why not say "Eleventy-billion scientists want to sue [What damages are they seeking?] or debate [All at once, or one at a time?] the DREADED Al GORE WHO INVENTED GLOBAL WARMING!!!!" It has the same credibility as 30,000.

From the wiki on "Climategate": "Six committees investigated the allegations and published reports, finding no evidence of fraud or scientific misconduct." And then there's the fact that Gore had nothing to do with to begin with.

  • Well the SSCS was so vocal in requesting an inquiry into the accident with the Ady Gil. Error was placed on both captains.

Now an eco friendly vessel is now wreaking havoc with an ecosystem at the bottom of an ocean.

  • Shame full!

They sold this on-of-a-kind unique boat to a bunch of fucking tree-hugging whale protectionist amateurs. Who proceeded to treat her like shit, then sink her by putting her in harms way.

  • @xoio The captain was Pete BETHUNE, the originator of the Earthrace. Earthrace had reached its goals: promoting biofuels and taking the world record to circumnavigate the planet. As the boat could make such long trips with 1 fueltank, it posed a threat the whalers never faced before: finally, there was a ship that could follow them all the way. Hence the interest by the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.

  • @SvenAERTS that's still no reason to sell her to those irresponsible retards. a fine piece of equipment like that is not for somebody who can't maintain it. ironically enough it was destroyed because it supposedly ran out of fuel. should have sold it to somebody that would have used it for a personal pleasure vehicle to get around real fast or to a racer . just really irresponsible to sell to people who would trash it just like they do their other vehicles.

  • @xoio Earthrace, later rebaptized as the "Ady Gil" by the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, was rammed and basically split in 2 by Japanese whale poachers illegally whaling in the S. Ocean Whale Sanctuary, way out of Japanese waters. The video's on the topic show the hunter to accelerate and turn to run the "Ady Gil" over nearly killing the crew. Things can be improved, but I don't agree they're still at the stage of amateurs.

  • @SvenAERTS Watch the collision video again, the view from up on the Japanese ship. Ady Gil clearly goes full throttle forward to get its nose under the Japanese ship. Look at the propwash behind the Ady Gil.

  • @SvenAERTS Lying only demonstrates you are a liar.

I oppose whaling, point blank. I oppose acts of piracy. Point blank. The "sea shepherds" are spitting on the movement to stop whaling by their acts which create FAR more enemies. The attention they are garnering is not positive. The have intentionally rammed one, and sailed into the path of another.

And if it were MY vessels you were threatening in icy waters, I'd meet you with deadly force. Only a matter of time until they do.

  • @USSBN734 I don't understand why you oppose whale hunting as oppose to other forms of hunting. They harvest the whale as a whole and nothing is waste. As long as the species can be sustained, what is wrong with that. It is not like in the 18 century where the only viable product of the whale is its blubber where it is rendered and used as lamp oil. The Japanese hunt whale for meat and the number they hunt is miniscule comparing the whale population as a whole.

  • @2Phast4Rocket I don't. I'm opposed to and VERY worried about hunting species in a way that brings them on the verge of a collapse of the species, i.e. extinction.

    1. I let the scientific community decide if this is the case or not.

    2. And the scientific community discussing with our elected political community overwhelmingly say: stop killing there and there and those specific species.

  • @2Phast4Rocket 3. I support NOT killing intelligent animals for food, s.a. the family of dogs, pigs, apes, horses, cows, dolphins, seals, whales, you name it. I have no problem killing insects for food, shrimps, crustacea, fish, etc. It is my understanding their nervous systems and brains are such that they are closer to robots and don't have the capacity to suffer. That's what I understood from my University Professor Biology at the Agro-Universtiy of Ghent.

  • @2Phast4Rocket There are sources of meat for Japan other than some of the rarest creatures on the earth. What gives them the goddamn right? You can't get around that fact.T

They argue that it's some sacred "tradition", but societies shed traditions constantly and this is one that Japan needs to shed now. I'm a bit of a Japanophile. I've traveled there. I love the culture, the history, the people. I just don't understand their clinging to this thing everybody else in the world hates them for.

  • @DonMegaphone Ones man sacred crap is another man delicacy. Whale population has reached a sustained level. They can be harvest for food and the stock can be controlled like other fish species, eventhough they are not fish, but the idea is the same. It's a crime now to hunt endangered specie for food. Whale are no longer endangered. If you can eat fish, pork, and beef, why not eat whale meat, or horse meat for that matter.

  • @SvenAERTS "The video's on the topic show the hunter to accelerate and turn to run the "Ady Gil" over" Sorry, that isn't what the videos show. They show the ship turning away, and the gil turning back and forth in front of it. Then he went dead in the water directly in front of the ship.

"I don't agree they're still at the stage of amateurs." Yep, now they have declared themselves pirates. How long until Japan brings a 25 mm cannon to the party?

  • @xoio You angry rightwingers just have to make everything political huh? Even killing whales.

Here's the deal, there are other sources of protein for the people of Japan. So they can take their cruel "tradition" of eating whales and dolphins and shove it up their ass. I ride motorcycles off-road and am far from a "tree-hugger", but even I see the evil in killing the rarest animals in the world for some jackass tradition.

  • whats the name of the song ?

  • the ocean did not destroy her, but a japaneese whaling vessel did......LMFAO....whales=biodiesel....intersting thought!

  • @mykonos329 LMFAO ?

  • @mykonos329 Actually quite a sick thought from a disturbed mind.

  • Beau projet, magnifique bateau, sauvons la planète! Bravo à Sven Aerts!

Nice project, beautiful boat, let's save the planet! Congratulations Sven!
