Yet an other nice share from you, Mr. Mike. Thank you for it. The chorus sounds a lot like that of a 1971 promo single from Bowie called "Bombers" which didn't chart.
I've been playing guitar for 45 years and I often wander around the parks in my area singing and playing my guitar just for fun. I meet a lot of people that way, and yesterday I met a guy named Walter who heard me and struck up a conversation. It turns out he plays too, and he said he used to be in a one hit wonder group called Bullet, and the hit was White Lies, Blue Eyes. That's why I seached it and how I found this video. He wants to jam with me and gave me his card. I think I'll call him up.
I have this 45 of Bullet and many others from the early 70's. I found this site by goggling the song titles and band names and viola! I can hear these great songs from my childhood without a record player! Thanks for the memories!
I am a collector of music of the 70's.This may sound old fashion, but does anyone know the name of & where I can buy a CD with this fantastic song on it? I appreciate any help.
And thank you Mike for contributing to one of the greatest eras in music.
I just found your site by total accident. What a treasure this is! Songs I haven't heard in years and years. I enjoy your intros also. I had this 45 by Bullet. I can see I'll be spending hours here!
Mike, great videos, great song... I remember seeing Bullet on American Bamdstand w/ this single.... maybe there is a video out there??? The Joel Whitburn's Record Research books site Atomic Rooster members,,, to add to the confusion Big Tree Records (Ampex) here in the states which released the single... had a Billboard Advertisment as a British Group....
my friend who is dead now, told me about this song, and tried to get me to find it while he was still here. I never could and all of a sudden here it is..
I remember hearing this song after leaving the "Game of The Century." Nebraska/Oklahoma, Thanksgiving, 1971. Every time I hear this song it takes me back to a cold and blustery November day in 1971. Thank you so much for the song and the memories.
can almost smell the wheels making the rounds through the near dark , lights scattered across the skating rink :) very cool post ....thanks for posting
I heard this smash hit on radio station WKBW 1520 Buffalo New York in sept 1971 .I love The Hard driving beat combined with the lead singers passion . After 49 years this song White Lies blue Eyes is still going strong in my head .A true Classic
I was the trumpet player, pianist and background vocalist for Bullet from 1972-1974. Ernie Sorrentino was the lead singer, Mike Micara was the drummer, George Ruiz was the bass player, Joey Stann was the organist and sax player. Today, we are all still in music. Joey plays with South Side Johnny. Ernie and Mike still play today. George Ruiz has passed away. I am the founding director of Popular Music at Palm Beach Atlantic University. My name is Roget Pontbriand. I was 17 when i joined Bullet.
@777Trumpetman --- Roget, thanks very much for this excellent information. We appreciate all your creative musical contributions through the years. I understand that you also played with Wild Cherry, KC & The Sunshine Band and Cleveland, Ohio's Michael Stanley Band, too!
@MississippiWerewolf This is hardly bubble gum rock, ass nibble. Its got a great hook and some strong vocals, snappy brass and a blistering lead guitar (do you know what a lead guitar is?). Go listen to your Jonas Brothers records.
I like your little show on here. I have a large record collection to. I have this single I think on 45 rpm as well as on a Ktel album called Chartbusters.
It is a great song. They never played it here in Toronto back then as they missed many great songs like this.
Do keep it up I like your intro. I should try to do something like this. too ba d you don't live in Toronto. We could hook up. I have 5000 record albums.....
The lead singer is Ernie Sorrentino. He was hired to come into the studio to sing the track with his two producers. The track was already done with top drawer studio musicians (that may have included Phil, above.) It's hard to know because Ernie never met the musicians playing on the track.
There was no group named "Bullet" until, to Ernie's surprise, the song charted. Ernie is preparing to tell the whole story soon as we fans find it quite intriguing. Maybe we can get him to weigh in here.
Mike, just had to tell you that I love your videos. I don't know if you do this professionally but you're so interesting to listen to. Thanks for bringing back so many long lost and forgotten tunes from my childhood. I remember hearing this one on American Bandstand and picked up the single in a Harmony Hut. Never heard it much on the radio around my way. Nice to hear again.
So does any one know about the other band bullet....with songs like Paul's song and relapse.....anyone with the info pls share cos i can't find nothing about them
Bullet was a one-hit wonder American rock band. Its one hit, "White Lies, Blue Eyes", made the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1971.
An English band also called "Bullet" is often given credit mistakenly for the hit "White Lies, Blue Eyes". The duo formed in London, comprising of former Atomic Rooster members, John Cann (vocalist) and Paul Hammond (drummer). Although this band was also called Bullet, they had to change their name because of the American band already named Bullet.
Hi Mike, I just happen to know who these guys are. They are originally from Brooklyn, NY. I am very close friends with one of the band members. His name is Phil and he played the guitar solo in the break. These guys were about 19 years old when the song was released. They now have an album out entitled, "4 Ever Fab" under the band name "The Atomik Age Project"
My God, does this bring back some great memories. Sure with the record industry would bring these classics back where they belong -- in the Billboard Top 40. It sure beats the garbage they call "music" these days. Thanks a million for posting this one.
Three similarly-titled songs that were out around the same time: "Behind Blue Eyes" by The Who, "White Lies" by Grin (Nils Lofgren's band), and "White Lies, Blue Eyes" by Bullet. In fact, this song and "Behind Blue Eyes" both entered the Hot 100 the same week, 11/6/1971. "White Lies" came about three months later.
Yet an other nice share from you, Mr. Mike. Thank you for it. The chorus sounds a lot like that of a 1971 promo single from Bowie called "Bombers" which didn't chart.

Mike, how about doing the flip side of "White Lies" which was "Changes of Mind". It would be interesting to hear after all these years.

Mike: You are a treasure trove of information!
This is superb power pop that defined the early '70s for me. Kind of bluesy, kind of psychedelic, but still very pop.
