  • Does the seed have to be fresh or can you start it after it has been sitting for a couple months?

  • @Wildlotuszen I have only tried starting a pit after it has been sitting for a while and it never did sprout. My guess is that the pit will sprout after it has been sitting for a while. It only needs water to activate it like many other seeds. I just have not had that particular success. You should try it then post back to us of your results.

  • i started my plant about a week and a half ago, i've been changing the water every 2-3 days, like dumping the water out and putting new water in, and i keep it in a well lit place, but i dont know why it won't sprout at the bottom, what am i doing wrong

  • @lilmamagc It can take up to three months for the pit to sprout. Keep changing the water and watch and wait. You will be surprised.

  • @lilmamagc drop them into a container with good soil..water and watch them sprout

  • will the plants grow avocados of there own ? and will it grow to be a full grown avocado tree ?

  • @THEnickvassalloSHOW The tree will grow as big as you let it grow. Some people only let it get big enough to be an indoor plant. If You plant it outside it will get 30-40 feet tall or more. It will probably grow fruit, but it will take the tree about 10 years before it starts to fruit. Even then the fruit will most likely not taste as good as the fruit you got the pit from.

  • @rgasperson thx for answering :D

  • Hi! I am trying different methods of starting a seed. Happily, I have a tree- now, about 15 " tall.

Sadly, the leaves are turning brown. I began watering by setting in a bowl of water-letting the soil absorb as much as it will then pouring off excess. Also, I moved plant to a much sunnier area.

Should I cut off the brown leaves? Could this be a blight of some kind?

  • @jonze11 I think you might be over watering. I also think it might be time to move your tree to a bigger pot. Also, when the weather gets hot, take the tree outside. The tree loves the sun, lots of sun.

  • I love quako.. I wish I could grow avocado where I live

  • I USE SCREWS ITS BETTER THEY WONT RUST

  • PEOPLE YOU HAVE TO PEEL THE SKIN BEFORE YOU PUT IT IN WATER TO ALLOW TO CRACK AND THE CONTAINER YHAT HE IS USING ITS TOO LOW THE ROOT NEED TO GO DOWN DEEP!!

  • @trabajopesado My experience the peel comes off as it cracks. I guess you can peel it if you want to. Nature does its thing. I have also used many different containers to start the pit. The tap root will turn to the side if it encounters the bottom of your container. It is better to use a deeper container. I once used a champagne glass. I also Like the ideas of the galvanized screws. May have to try that next time.

  • @trabajopesado

Okay - I'll try one with each method to see which one works best. I Love Avocados and have been wondering how to grow a tree from a pit.

    Thanks.

  • well done, its the only video on here that tells what end to sumerge. point facing up.

  • Won't the nails rust?

  • 1 person is a Republican.

  • so did it ever sprout? no up date

  • Mine always grow about 5' tall, straight out, then start withering. They don't always survive being put into soil...also, my cats love to drink the water around the pit!

  • I waited till there was a nice root system growing and there were a few leaves on the plant. I suppose if you have a tap root, you could plant it any time you would like. As for me, I like to see the plant grow before I put it in soil.

  • should I put the seed in soil when I see the tap root or should I wait to see some leaves sprouting? Please respond at sydmnicer@yahoo.com

  • I tried to do this with wooden toothpick a couple years ago... and I ended up sticking a toothpick about 1/2 an inch into my thumb :( haha

  • woots the weather is always hot here! is that good?

  • Cool I have just move to a house and have a garden so though about growing some fruit trees. My wife really wants avocado so I will give it a go

  • Hi Robert,

wow I am learning from you ..I hope to see 5 of my avocado pits growing one day soon. I am from Taiwan so not sure will it grow or not due to an unstable climate so hot so cold...crazy weather over here.. Mike

  • Wow. I thought if u hurt the seed, it never won't grow

  • Where's the followup vid? What ever happened to that little pit? I must know!

  • Thats a good question. Seems to be better to have more than one tree. The older the tree, the more flowers, the better it is at pollinating itself. So you don't necessarily have to have a second tree.

  • avocados trees make avocadoes on their own, or

it needs 2 avocados trees to grow avocaodos?

  • When the pit starts to crack, do you take off the skin thats on the pit or do you leave it on it?

  • @DeasonGurl26 I just let it be. The pit knows what its doing.

  • Yep. It is supposed to be the pointy side up.

  • So the pointy side up cause I think I did mines wrong

  • thank you, you really saved my butt n_n

    you're awesome
