i want to learn so bad, although i have a bad foot and my knee isn't in the best of shape, i can get over it with physical therapy, just got to find a school
My bipolar cousin recently yanked out a hand full of my hair (and being a black female... that is NOT a happy thing). Since she lives with me, I want to learn how to prevent this sort of thing from happening again and to keep her from harming herself or others if she gets too stressed out or overwhelmed (as in, pin her down until she tires herself out, instead of being too weak to defend myself and losing control of the situation). My parents work long hours so I'd like to help and be strong.
I want to learn Martial Arts just for the adrenaline and to feel like I've achieved something useful. But to be honest, I don't think I'd be confident enough even after training to be able to use it on someone if they were to attack me purposely.
Ever seen The Transformer? Jason Statham, the chauffer, really inspired me to try to learn this. I might ask my best friend if she wants to give it a go with me, too!
@redwire95 That doesnt justify beating someone up.
If someone hits you and doesnt cause any damage thats not a reason to do martial arts to learn how to absolutly flaw them.
Martial arts is War arts... Martial arts teach you how to maximise damage potential on your opponent. Therefor playground disputes should not be settled in such a way.
@dronin87 No they're not. Martial means 'for war.' Your martial art maybe about mind and spiritual development, discipline, self discovery, and a plethora of other things, but that is not what the martial arts are for. The martial arts are combative skills designed, originally, to kill your enemies and that was it. They are as old as man and they are from all over the world. Not all martial arts are cut from the same cloth, the one I teach is designed for street defense only.
@lespaulman123 Martial arts is the way to defend, its more of a natural relaxation technique too. You should not use it for violence (offensive) only to defend.
I want it for self defence when if I get attacked but I don't want to hurt people even if they are attacking me

My karate teacher told us that if we are not learning ways to attack, he said that if u use karate to attack u will always be defeated.

@Ultimatelulz77 He is right. Martial Arts shouldn't be abused & should ONLY be learnt for self defence, nothing more.

@lespaulman123 Dont do it,
Martial arts is not to beat someone up, its to defend urself and to train your body and mind.

@lespaulman123 Use boxing for that, man. Martial arts is not about using it for purposes such as that, just as dronin87 has said.
