I'll never forget the first time I came across a "Rape Tree" in the desert of New Mexico. Or smelled an illegal alien city that was in the middle of an old field, that was concealed from view by hills in Central CA. It was another world. Whenever I hear the "I don't want to pay $___ for a tomato..." I realize that these people are just modern day slave owners, only worse. The economic arguments in support of illegal immigration, are identical to the slavery apologists of the 19th century.
Do you actually think the bias - from the Johnson-Reed Act of 1924 was caused by the incidents you mentioned. This is not bias against mexicans - it is bias against mexican legal immigration
That stuff pisses me off. I don't like spending money on it but I like people dying in the streets even less.
The poor aren't just fucking fuel to burn in the fires of our factories, and yes, while in theory we shouldn't have to pay for illegals I'd rather pay for them then be responsible for someone's death.
I think we need to stop illegal immigration, BUT we need to have guest worker programs to allow these people to come in and earn money (remittances are fine with me).
One of these days I'll make a video about illegal immigration and outsourcing. I know I won't be able to do it with your skill Rith hehe. I find these things to be a huge problem as they lead to the creation of 2nd class citizens here and abroad. We shouldn't be allowing this bullshit simply so the few top 1-5% of the world's richest population can make even more money.
Thanks, tattoo, I'm sure you'd do a damn good job though.
Yeah, I'm not in favor of the status quo - as a side note, we own an agriculture business and we hire (or at least assume we hire) illegal immigrants. They actually get more than minimum wage in our industry, dunno bout the others though.
Well, minimum wage in itself is a whole other issue. I don't so much have an issue with the wages involved, even though most industries that they are "hired" for, they are definitely undercutting "normal" wages for those jobs. What bothers me is that being classified as "illegal" they are set up for exploitation at the start... they do not have any of the protections that a naturalized citizen or legal resident would have. They can get injured on the job and have no legal out. Numbers of things.
Yup. That's why I like guest worker programs - they can still come and work here, but not really stay here permanently. They can send remittances home, make a good wage, and not get screwed over by their employers.
Also helps us keep track of who's in the country, and since I'm a security minded guy I like that.
The Gastarbieter program in Germany didn't work as people decided not to go home but decided to stay so the net result was immigration which was what every other Wester country experienced in the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
Guest worker programs end with immigration - so why not allow the immigration in the first place.
but immigration is not necessarily coterminal with 100% open border - but there is definitely bias in the USA against Mexican migration to the USA and a guest worker scheme would not I believe work as people do not go back to the home country even though the home country might be warmer, cheaper and more laid-back than the host country like Turkey compared to Germany.
I'm fine w/ legal immigration and guest worker programs (and expanding the amount of ppl we went in legally). I'm part Mexican, but I don't support illegal immigration.
Illegal immigration is a symptom of a bad quality immigration policies and the better the policy the smaller the illegal immigration - I do not think illegal immigration is the answer either - I just view it as a problem and guest workers schemes are just delaying immigration recognition for 20 years or so.
this woman is a bitch and needs to be slapped.

Thank you for standing up for immigrants.
Deep down inside, she instinctively feels brown people are genetically inferior.

Cheers - as an immigrant myself (naturalised citizen, in fact) I take exception to this kind of right wing bluster.
I heard peopel saying '"let 'em die" when the subject of health care and illegal immigrants came up. Such caring people, the right wingers.
