Yo! Look at Doug E. Fresh and Redhead Kingpin givin' each other dap @ 2:46. They like "DAAAAMN...Kris is KILLIN' it". Then KRS jut gets up and bounces like he KNOWS he just murdered his verse, and he's leavin' the scene of the crime. What a GREAT song and video...
End is deep. They will kill a speaker of truth. Same scenario as Malcolm. This time they didn't do it violently. They did it by seducing weak willed men (and now women) with sex, money, drugs and fame. Now it has "silenced" the REAL rap game.
That would be a good question for Jesse Jackson who "spoke" for all Black Americans when he said that they now wanted to be referred to as "African-Americans."
If we taught in our lyrics today the world would be better off....the NWA segment of our era is the only segment left..so all the kids wanna be hard...dont tell me music is not influential...cause we all wore african medallions.....rappers dont care about our people!
Let's try to catalogue all the cats in this video: Whodini, Phife Dawg, Redhead Kingpin, DMC, Doug E Fresh... Candyman?! Couple are on the tip of my tongue, someone help me out!
I worked on this video I even made the credits lol!!! Kool Moe Dee, RUN DMC, KRS, etc all VERY down to earth. Treated the film crew great. Fun video to work on. :-)
@Dwindmill Fair point. People do, however, say "Italian-American" or "Irish-American," for example, so while it's not labeled to a continent, people have a tendency to label by country. Not entirely different, but KRS still makes a good point.

This is what separates rapper today from 15+ years ago:
Rappers back them had knowledge and were very rap conscious.l The skills were ominous.
Rappers today only know money and that's it. No passion for the art of rap itself. Everyone sounds like the next man. They'll talk about killing each other but won't speak out against the ones who tried to kill the art in the first place!

@Staalstraal 1st of all, Im not male. 2ndly, the problem isn't all new stuff. The problem is a culture being ERASED. Rap is a message, the music. HIP HOP IS THE CULTURE. Oh i do need to research hiphop. I'm still a student . But again i only try say that it might be wise to try to take a look at the bright side of hiphop today. With quotes like 'Rappers today only know money and that's it.' you ignore the craft of millions of righteousminded and talented souls making sure that hiphop is ALIVE. Don't you agree?
@Staalstraal True. I agree. I do my best to listen to today's Hip Hop. But the beats are the same, the content is the same and everyone is just fabricated (look at Nikki Minaj). As one who works on radio, trust me, I see the F'd up attitudes of some artists. All they say: "I'm tryna get paid. F Hip Hop." When I hear that and then see ppl flipping over these cats, I'm like "damn sellout." When u ask about righteous rappers they reply "niggas wanna stay broke."
@Staalstraal Sent message to wrong person. My apologies if I fired at you. I'm a passionate Hip Hop B-Girl. This is what we all have and need to maintain it and not let it get lost in the mainstream.
hi, no need to apologize, but thanks anyway. @Staalstraal dude how can you say lil wayne, gicci or whatever, eminem, soulja boi ect... are hardcore rappers haha, they get owned by old skool, also the only good rappers nowadays is the rappers that are still alive from back when they did old skool hip hop
@khaliamoon there are no rappers out here today talking about something different from the ones in the past there always were gangster and political rappers
I once watched an entire 100 charts show, each one was talking about the opposite sex in one way or another, no matter the genre, just the rap ones are just shameless.. In all ways.
its so bad how faggots like soulja boy can get over 100 million view and legends like krs-one kool moe dee and chuck d barely get over 100 thousand? damn no respect for pioneering rappers whatsoever
It's not respect causing low views, people either have not heard old-school or don't like it because It's old.. Unless It's purely stupidity. I personally like a combination of rhyme and a dope lyrics played against a whack beat.
The forefather's of hip hop!! These three guys not only had balls to speak out, but they were our voices as young black youth, I feel real sorry for the youth today, they have Lil Wayne and Drake as thier mouth piece who only talk about drugs, partying, money and women!'
ATTENTION too all 2000's whack ass, shitty beat producing,pre-school lyric creating thugs would call them selfs rappers today, take notes from 3 of the greatest hip-hop artist of all time. you see these cats are LYRICISTS,make music with SUBSTANCE,and rap about shit that's MEANINGFUL. no fucking ice,no ak-47's,no rapping about bitches,ho's,killing other rappers, rims, getting their dicks sucked on stage, and other popcorn garbage, too get their point across or make fans love them.remember this.
i was in that video. it so nice to see legends in the making. Every time krs 1 did his part people clapped like they heard it only one time & we did about 10 takes. other legends were there. Kid capri, red alert, whodini, just to name a few.
True what a great lyric. You can imagine the power behind the staff of Ra the Sun God. This was the true beginnings of Hip-hop. The days of Marley Marl and that whole Queensbridge thing together with Mount Vernon in Westchester. Tragedy, The Intelligent Hoodlum was doin jams like "America eats the Young." I see Doug E Fresh is sitting at the table here, too. He and Slick Rick had the best stage act of that time, but you had to live in NYC to know that. Next came Mobb Deep & Das EFX.
Are you serious? "Holding my mic like the staff of Ra, bringing TRUE light, after dark" One of the all time great posse cuts(after "Scenario"remix, of course). I fear the days of real hip-hop are over. Please, somebody.. anybody.. prove me wrong.

@BigStash Actually there are still some posse cuts - the thing is, they're UNDERGROUND. I remember Paris, Public Enemy, and Dead Prez doing a posse cut and they KILLED IT!!!! Also, KRS-ONE did some posse cuts with Buckshot from Black Moon on the Survival Skills album, which came out a few years ago. I see what you're saying, though, but the "we getting money" B.S. applies largely to the idiots that are thrown the spotlight, terribly misrepresenting the genre.
KRS KILLED THEM SHITS. I Remember I pulled up at a Taco bell after a highschool football game bangin this shit in my 98 with 4 12" woofers & had errbody in the parkin lot ROCKIN ( like 60 people)....man, the Fuckin memories.
@Kimoraman1 Agreed. I remember rocking to Edutainment back in the day, and I still do. KRS is STILL KILLING IT to this very day. Alot of these "hot mcs" today (who are nothing more than glorified product advertisers) could learn alot from cats like KRS. The question is though: would they actually LISTEN and learn a damn thing???????
@mrknowitalllt1 no,he was suppose to rap hence kool moe dee onyl said his name, krs and chuck d, because all of them where rapping in it, so he was meant to
@StevoLad1990 i could've sworn i saw an interview with moe dee when he said that krs one came in at the last minute and made up his verse on the spot and had to leave on business. that's why he left after his rhyme on the vid.
Damn, they murdered it! I remember this joint when I was young but now that I'm older and know what they're rhyming about, I can appreciate the wisdom a lot more. "I hold the mic like the staff of RA!" WHAT!?!??! And don't get me started on KRS's verse! Hip Hop has fallen so far from true wisdom. Nowadays the slave/victim/false masculinity/materialism prevails and it's part of the plan to destroy us and it's WORKING!
holy smokes I just discovered this video. I was into PE and KRS1 back in the day, never saw Kool Mo Dee as good as this so I overlooked him. He is great in this video, my only wish is that they gave KRS1 and Chuck more time. I felt like Chuck was rushed to finish, or maybe he just wrote a shorter part. but this is a classic I discovered only now in 2010! thanks all!
KRS-One killed his verse and got up and left the table. Who was that he passed his seat to. It doesn't matter he wasn't worthy to sit in the same seat as a lyrical genious
KOOL MOE DEE brought the light! I wanna know why KRS walked off stage but still dope none the less. Hip hop heads and newbies check out each one teach one - Poor Righteous Teachers - Anotha great hip hop act!
This video is like a 'who's who' of 90's hip hop. Obviously, you have Moe Dee, KRS 1, and Chuck D, but if you watch carefully, you'll see others- Redhead Kingpin, Doug E. Fresh, D-Nice, DMC (95% sure that's thim standing in the back with the fur hat and signature DMC glasses) from Run DMC, and Ecstacy from my favorite early rap group Whodini. I might be missing some, but those are who I caught.
Esse..é o verdadeiro rap americano.

they don't do posse cuts like this anymore...even if they do a posse cut today it will be a "we gettin' this money and you ain't " song
BigStash 1 year ago 35
@BigStash Hahaha. Either that, or the whole album is a posse cut.
krakkajackson 1 year ago
@BigStash Actually there are still some posse cuts - the thing is, they're UNDERGROUND. I remember Paris, Public Enemy, and Dead Prez doing a posse cut and they KILLED IT!!!! Also, KRS-ONE did some posse cuts with Buckshot from Black Moon on the Survival Skills album, which came out a few years ago. I see what you're saying, though, but the "we getting money" B.S. applies largely to the idiots that are thrown the spotlight, terribly misrepresenting the genre.

@BigStash I agree with you, although I think we should not lose hope! the power of Hip Hop is... of epic proportions

KRS KILLED THEM SHITS. I Remember I pulled up at a Taco bell after a highschool football game bangin this shit in my 98 with 4 12" woofers & had errbody in the parkin lot ROCKIN ( like 60 people)....man, the Fuckin memories.
Kimoraman1 1 year ago 23
@Kimoraman1 Agreed. I remember rocking to Edutainment back in the day, and I still do. KRS is STILL KILLING IT to this very day. Alot of these "hot mcs" today (who are nothing more than glorified product advertisers) could learn alot from cats like KRS. The question is though: would they actually LISTEN and learn a damn thing???????
chj2 11 months ago 4
@Kimoraman1krs did rip it didn't he? if i'm correct he did his verse right there on the spot. hecame in at the last minute and tore it up.
mrknowitalllt1 8 months ago
@mrknowitalllt1 no,he was suppose to rap hence kool moe dee onyl said his name, krs and chuck d, because all of them where rapping in it, so he was meant to

@StevoLad1990 i could've sworn i saw an interview with moe dee when he said that krs one came in at the last minute and made up his verse on the spot and had to leave on business. that's why he left after his rhyme on the vid.

rrrgovernment01 1 year ago
Damn, they murdered it! I remember this joint when I was young but now that I'm older and know what they're rhyming about, I can appreciate the wisdom a lot more. "I hold the mic like the staff of RA!" WHAT!?!??! And don't get me started on KRS's verse! Hip Hop has fallen so far from true wisdom. Nowadays the slave/victim/false masculinity/materialism prevails and it's part of the plan to destroy us and it's WORKING!

kool moe dee rapped twice because this was on his album
smilekeith 1 year ago
why did kool dee rap twice ...I think he knew who was going to rip it ...CHUCK D !!!
dedserious93 1 year ago
holy smokes I just discovered this video. I was into PE and KRS1 back in the day, never saw Kool Mo Dee as good as this so I overlooked him. He is great in this video, my only wish is that they gave KRS1 and Chuck more time. I felt like Chuck was rushed to finish, or maybe he just wrote a shorter part. but this is a classic I discovered only now in 2010! thanks all!
