  • ...the chick-in-boots better than her Chopin...

  • I like this interpretation. It's not as fast and furious as most others by the great piano masters, but I enjoyed the slower tempo. It allowed me to appreciate the melodies better. Well done!

  • I'll make sure I'm wearing my leather pants and a Def Leppard t-shirt when I post my performance - if it was good enough for Liberace to wear a white tux onstage when he was a classical pianist then it's OK for the rest of us to have some fun. I love her tempo choice of tempo - it's relaxed and the rhythm of the piece comes through nice and clear. Well done, Sonya!

  • i'm surprised.. very well played and a wonderfull touch. I like it.. bravo.

  • @Akriskal Why all you self proclaimed music "critics" even afraid to show your faces? ...

  • et Dinu Lipatti bien sûr

  • @Alkana54 je n'osais pas le dire!(que c'était du massacre)

Mille fois oui pour Bruno Leonardo Gelber.

  • I agree with zurzica51, needs more fuoco. But what a nicely nuanced performance.

  • haha, the two top replys are so funny...

yeah, why she's wondering a mini skirt and boots while recording... -_-?

  • bravo ! =D . fully captured my attention at 4.03-4.21.

  • Comme c'est laid cette musique!

  • fantastic!!!

  • hit me baby one more time!

  • nice legs.

  • A fine performace!

I am quite pleased to find music here rather than another I can play faster than you spectacle.

  • bbona.....peccato non abbia le mani della argerich

  • ahahahah xD la argerich da giovane era anke bellissima *__*

  • who is this young beautifull lady? very nice playing!! only need more "fuoco".. in my opinion! but very nice qualyties! :) thanks for the video!

  • Very, VERY nice performance, Sonya. As one who also has a video of this movement on YouTube, I can say that your more relaxed tempo is a refreshing change from those who always want to race through this exquisite music at breakneck speed. Your RH passage work is crystal clear, unlike mine (of course I was doing it with a permanent finger injury) and you handle those murderous LH stretches at the 2nd recap of the main theme seemingly effortlessly. Good luck to you.

  • bravo

  • Very Good. Great.*****

  • I admire your play. Five stars were your reward. Let's hear more of your performances!

  • a few minutes ago i heard this mouvement played by argerich. I don' t want to end the day with this interpretation. baaah

(however, at least mrs kahn plays better than me... and shes a hot babe)

  • any lack of perfection in the playing can still be forgiven because she seems multitalented, from her website...

  • Very good performance Sonya....and babe-a-licious for those of us who have eyes!

  • Why on earth are people commenting on this young woman's clothes? The performance of the Chopin was very good.

  • Why would you wear an outfit like that to perform piano in? Please be more elegant. Your outfit is so distasteful.

  • Just wait! I'm going to play this piece next year, and I'm going to wear my Led Zeppelin T-shirt and hat! Chopin Rocks! But guess what? Sonya Rocks too, and her interpretation is great! Don't look at her clothes, look at her fingers and listen to the music!

  • I tend to disagree with you. Obviously, she is not playing this piece in front of the audience in this video. If there was an audience, then I do agree with you. I don't know about you but i've seen numerous youtubers who record themselves and perform classical music with T-shirts or pajamas.

  • Frankly, I don't care. It's atypical, and I don't find it particularly appealing either, but I feel that i wouldn't mind walking onto a concert stage wearing a buttoned shirt, a sport jacket, and a pair of jeans, sitting down, and playing for an audience.

The point is the music anyway. I feel a performer should wear whatever makes himself/herself reasonably comfortable while performing.

  • close your eyes and listen.

  • Half of the performers on youtube wear what they threw on that morning (and sometimes not even that) so why should it matter simply because she is playing classical music? Her clothing options should not matter in the case of a video recording that was not even performed on a stage in a formal setting. She is simply doing what she does best --playing!

  • Incredibly inciteful, intelligent performance. Wonderful left hand theme and melody clarity, not to mention stupendous expressiveness in dynamics and rubato. Chopin played this piece no better, and no one else has, either. Never mind these people who say "too slow." They're just used to hearing the piece faster. If they listen to your performance a few times they will learn to love it, as Chopin himself would have. Your playing is clear and expressive and exactly correct.

  • scooterbarf, It is indeed great, but I don't get why you're saying "never mind these people who say "too slow"". Compared to other pianists, (Kissin, Argerich etc) it isn't fully agitated. (presto non tanto, agitato) I'm not saying it's bad. It's just her own unique style. Chopin played this no better? Listen, people who actually heard Chopin performing felt so "wonderful that they could even jump into the Seine River." Nobody understands his music better than Chopin himself.

  • chopinandliszt, contemporaries of Chopin who "could even jump into the Seine River" were reacting to his daringly new musical ideas, not to his playing, since he nearly always played his own music in public.

Chopin lacked physical stamina and audiences always complained of his feeble fortes.

Sonia's performance showed understanding and conviction and it expressed all of Chopin's ideas. There is nothing "better" than that, and Chopin himself would have said "bravo" upon hearing her play.

  • une question plutot: y-a-t-il un rapport entre Laure Favre et Sonya Khan ? Les deux sont des pianistes merveilleuses ... et jouent Chopin.

  • Well! Let's just say this......I would pay to see her play just because she is a marvelous pianist, period! I think the tempo in which she played still works quite well, and is very impressive to anyone watching and listening. I think of Chopin's many masterpieces, and the Sonata No. 3 Op. 58 4th mvt, and the Ballade in G Minor are my two personal favorites. Sonya does a GREAT job on this piece! Would love to hear her play the Ballade in G Minor! Any chance, Sonya?

  • she's hot

  • Upload more piano!

  • Masterful! Beautiful playing indeed!

  • Holy Crap! This is one talented lady :o)

  • Are you kiding? or just for fun!

  • interesting playing! Slow, but with expression and accuracy! I´m really used to hear this movement played faster, but you did well...you added some expression, and didn´t play just notes and more notes!

I´d like to hear you playing this a bit more faster, just a bit, but anyway, this was really good!

  • I too think it is a bit slow just a bit but it is really expressive did you see her Myspace??

  • very nice chopin I enjoyed it very much nice to see someone chage styels with such ease!!! keep it up and enjoy

  • ???? Ma dove l'anno presa questa? Che lavoro faceva prima?
