dam i miss rose town so fucken much cant wait till the summer. Rosa is the place to live no joke im livin in AZ right now it its cool n all but nothing to where im from the 707
I moved from Scotland to live there i did for 4 years but then me and my parent had to come back Scotland i really miss it since that is kind of where i grew up and a piece of my heart is still there!
These drives in Santa Rosa clips are fantastic - I'm in the UK, visited Santa Rosa in 2002 and this is like going back to this gorgeous place! Keep 'em coming!!! :-)
I used to live about 4 kilometers west down 3rd from the 101. It has been since the late 80s. Most of the street names I don't remember anymore.
Everything seems so sterile and robotic. Where are all the people. All I see are cars driving through gentrified & perfect neighborhoods. Is this what the typical American city/community looks like now? I guess I have been out of America too long.
That would actually be a step backwards, but I see what you're getting at.
User 'quitearow' said he (or she) has been out of America for a while. Outside the US, they use kilometers. It's a smarter system, everything's based on multiples of 10, rather than 12 inches in a foot, 3 in a yard but nevermind that, 5280 feet in a mile. It's not very intelligent. The US should adopt the metric system before any more future generations fall victim to the stupidity of the standard system.
yeah i agree but you know we americans have to do things our own way. The only thing i would keep our system for is sports i love seeing the ft marker on the wall in baseball. Party on!!!!
I don't watch baseball, but I agree about sports. Football would have to remain untouched, though a meter is only about three inches longer than a yard. But 100 meters is 300 inches longer than 100 yards, or 25 feet, a little more than 8 yards. Still, the change would make it hard to compare teams before the change to teams after, stat wise. And I'm not even a big sports fan at all.
This video brings back memories. I live a couple hours south now, but watching this is very familiar to me... Aromas on a Friday night, going down 3rd street under 101, etc. But why not have some local music playing? Tom Waits, Ray Luv, whateva... ha.
Tom Waits I've heard of, but not Ray Luv... Anyway, we were just listening to 101.7 The Fox. Out here we have 99.5 The X, but it's not quite the same. Still the same over-obsession with AC/DC and Metallica though. Beavis & Butt-Head must own both stations (look at their shirts).
Also keep in mind the video wasn't shot to broadcast or share. I'd just gotten my digital camera and was playing around with it. Nowadays I'm conscious of what's on the radio when I shoot such a video.
I used to want to move somewhere else, but now that im older i appreciate living here more than ever. my family has so much history here that little cinder blok building on the corner of wilson and 3rd is where my grandfather worked when he was 8. and where the Marriot is, there was Grace Brothers Brewery, my grandfather worked there during the depression. I hang out at the Aromas almost every night with my Volkswagen friends. we have a mini car show. so much history here.
Word. I know when people used to hang out at the old Safeway at Mendocino & Guernville Rd. - or was it Steele Ln. at that point? I was never part of that crowd, but my brother was, so I saw it once or twice. Good times. Oh and the market when it was the Thursday Night Market downtown. Wasn't the same when they changed it to Wednesday nights.
September 2, 2004. I try to include that information with every video I upload to YouTube. Not sure why it isn't shown publicly though.
It is before that, though. I lived in Santa Rosa until the middle of September 2005, and they'd only widened from the 101/12 junction down to the first Rohnert Park exit.
It's been such a mess lately that I had almost forgotten what the place USED to look like. You can't even get to downtown now if you're heading north due to the construction. They should be done with the current project soon, but then they will begin north of Santa Rosa to Windsor.
Well in my opinion they sorely need to widen 101 from the LBC down through Petaluma - say, all the way down to Marin County where it becomes three lanes (just before Novato). Certain political figures are against it, but as we all know change is inevitable. Conservatives can only conserve the old ways for so long; eventually, the world must turn again, and move forward.
Move away for a few years, you might come to appreciate it. Maybe, maybe not. I mean, that's what I thought too, but having been away almost 3 years I realize what I've been missing. I've made a life for myself on the other side of the country, but damn, Santa Rosa was nice. Look at some of my videos shot here - while it's not bad at all, there's nothing quite like Rose Town out here.
Yeah... I'd always forget about the towns that weren't on the 101. Sonoma, Sebastopol, Forestville, Guernville - they're nice quieter alternatives to the "city" atmosphere of Santa Rosa.
Well, for what it's worth I don't much care for Sonoma. ;-) But it's mostly the traffic patterns. I think the town got big too quick and didn't grow right, something just seems off. The square is really nice though, overall it's a real pretty town. Still, there's a lot of stuff I'd have to travel for, so if I wanted a Sonoma-like atmosphere, I think I'd pick Healdsburg over Sonoma. It's right on the 101, closer to places like Best Buy, Walmart, CompUSA, the tech stuff I like. ;-)
I guess that depends on who you ask. Among my circle of family and friends, there was no consensus on specifically what it was.
Re-read the video description, but to answer your question in context, no, I live in North Carolina now. (FWIW we don't call our highways "the 33" or "the 264" either, it just made sense when I typed that comment above.)
Perhaps in S.R. some people say *the* 101 is because it's the only true freeway (12 in S.R. doesn't qualify). So instead of saying "I'll take 101 from Bicentennial to Todd Rd.", they're thinking "*the* freeway". In Nor-Cal areas where there are more freeways, people don't think of "*the* [freeway]"
Man, 12's only a highway from Farmers Lane to... well, I guess the city limits past Food Maxx (remember when it was Food4Less?). But at Farmers Lane it stops, and then you have to go up Farmers through half a dozen lights to reconnect with it, and it's not even a real highway at any point thereafter in Sonoma County. Just a country road really.
I haven't seen home in 5 years. I am out in VA now and god how this made me home sick :( There is no other place like it in the world! Thanks for posting! :)
Again folks I no longer live there and won't be back until near the end of Summer, 2009. And taking videos won't be a priority, but I won't rule it out, either.
I've posted the videos I have that are worth posting. I don't think I have any more Sonoma County driving videos, but if I dig any up I'll post them.
I lived in Santa Rosa for 30 years and moved to Idaho 2 years ago. It was fun to look at your video, made me home sick! Please make alot more and sing songs while you film. Peace!
I'm in SR. Now they are widening 101 and considering putting in a train that runs through Sonoma County and up to Larkspur in Marin. I think they should instead put in a BART system that goes all the way to SF or Richmond.
It was taken on Sept. 2, 2004. I put that in somewhere when I uploaded the video but don't see it.
I lived in Santa Rosa for about 26 years and then moved to North Carolina in 2005. This video is an archive. I have more and will continue to upload them if you like looking around Rose Town.
When was this video taken? I lived in SR more than 27 years. Actually worked on the downtown mall. No longer living in CA. Are you planning on doing more video around the town.
